Beautifully restored Tudor |
300 Grant Street San Jose and Silicon Valley, CA 95008 United States +1 408 866 2119 |
Dating from 1925, this English Tudor-style house was once one of the grandest homes in the entire valley. It is still impressive. Now it has been restored with period antiques and is an historic landmark in the old area of Campbell. Not only is it a fine example of Tudor-style architecture, the home is a great place for weddings, too. Tours are available from April to December. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The museum bookstore offers a nice selection of usual museum merchandise, such as books, tote bags and greeting cards. 65 Post Street (between First and Market streets) San Jose and Silicon Valley, CA 95113 United States +1 408 885 9283 http://www.waves-smokehouse.com waves1@pacbell.net |
Set in a former 19th century brothel, this BBQ restaurant and saloon offers a great variety of smokehouse platters. You can go upstairs and eat dinner on the rooftop patio or, if you need to catch some television, you can chow down in the bar, which has 24 beers on tap and a load of single-malt scotches. The bar itself is more than 100 years old and the sleek mahogany decor makes for a great hangout. This place is highly recommended to carnivores and suds-heads. Try the Smoked Duck Salad served up by the personable and efficient wait staff. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The occult as conspicuous consumption |
525 South Winchester Boulevard San Jose and Silicon Valley, CA 95128 United States +1 408 247 2101 http://www.winchestermysteryho... |
Sarah Winchester was heir to the Winchester repeating rifle fortune, and she was convinced that the spirits of all those killed with that gun were haunting her. To confuse the restless spirits, she constructed one of the oddest houses ever built and kept constructing it until the day of her death. The Victorian-style labyrinth that resulted features a door on the second floor that opens onto thin air, others that open onto walls, and stairs and corridors that lead to dead ends. Check website for prices and further information. Review © 2007, Wcities |
