Seattle |
This section of the Rainier Valley was occupied only by Native Americans until the Rainier Valley Electric Railway connected it with Seattle and it was annexed. The town grew in response to the lumber demand created by the Seattle fire of 1889. During the mid 1900s, the city fell into poverty and disrepair, but many of the homes have been refurbished and the stores reopened. This neighborhood is also home to the world headquarters of the Freedom Socialist Party and the Kubota Gardens, a free 20-acre Japanese garden. Review © 2009, Wcities |
