Harbor Island

Seattle
Harbor Island was the largest man-made island in the world when it was completed in 1909. Though it has since lost this title, it is still an important industrial hub of the city. Lead smelting, petroleum storage, and ship construction and repair all take place on the island. The West Seattle Bridge and the Spokane Street Bridge both pass over the island, which is just over 400 acres in size and tallied only three permanent residents during the last census.
