Hawthorne Hills is the area bounded by 40th Avenue, 65th Street and The Burke-Gilman Trail, a system of bike paths dating back to the construction of the Seattle, Lake Shore & Eastern Railroad in 1885. Many of the houses here are old-fashioned Cape Cod homes constructed to accommodate the influx of wartime factory workers moving to the state during the 1940s to be near the Boeing plant in Seattle.
