This company, founded nearly 30 years ago, is one of the five biggest and most highly touted ballet companies in the United States, and it continues to garner accolades from abroad on its many international tours. If you are in town during the ballet season (Sep-May), make an effort to see a show. The company's repertoire is diverse and includes everything from newer and contemporary works such as The Quilt and In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated to classics like Agon, A Midsummer Night's Dream and Ballet Imperial. The traditional holiday season performance of the Nutcracker is a special treat, but the 36 shows sell out regularly so plan on buying tickets when they go on sale in October.
