The Rainier Valley is an ethnically and culturally diverse area bounded by Interstate-90 and Martin Luther King Jr. Way. It was once known as the Garlic Gulch because of the large numbers of Italian-Americans who called it home, but now it is home to a mix of all economic and social classes. This area has had high rates of crime, but these have started to decline, and government money entering the neighborhood to improve housing and give training and jobs to locals may help further.
