Seattle |
This neighborhood draws its name, surprisingly, from the town of Ravenna, Italy. The history of Ravenna is closely tied to the lumber industry, as the area was home to some of the tallest old-growth timber in the world before logging became big business here. One reminder of early Seattle industry is the Burke-Gilman Trail, created by railroad workers in the late 19th century, which is now a bike path open to the public. Many of the residents of Ravenna today are graduate students from the nearby Washington State University. Review © 2009, Wcities |
