Almost always crowded with businesspeople during lunchtime on weekdays, this restaurant has warm modern decor with a huge bar as the center of attention. The menu features steaks and seafood, including dishes like Wild Pacific Red King Salmon and Louisiana Pan-Fried Oysters. The steaks, all aged Angus Beef, will melt in your mouth. For half a century, and three generations of the Canlis family, this gorgeous restaurant has teetered on a hill over Lake Union. It beckons the well-off, those looking for a romantic evening, or anyone celebrating a special event. The restaurant has won awards too numerous to list, and a renovation has made it all the better. The cuisine is based on fresh ingredients, with salmon, scallops and Dungeness crab topping the menu. Vegetables are locally grown, as are the wide array of fruits used in each beautifully presented dish. The restaurant has a 12,000-bottle wine cellar.

In restaurant-heavy Belltown, this newcomer makes a bold statement. Its North West style has hints of true elegance such as the use of Limoges china. Light floods through the many windows. A pianist plays. A fire flickers in the fireplace, and water flows over carved glass. Chef Kerry Sear, formerly of The Georgian Room, uses only the freshest, most flavorful ingredients from the Northwest to prepare exceptional dishes. Wines include many North West varieties.

Recalling upper-crust New York in the 1940s, this place is not typical Seattle, but it is excellent. The waiters are tuxedoed. Live piano plays in the background. Candles flicker, shedding light over lots of dark wood. Perfectly prepared steak and seafood dishes fill the menu. Order Chateaubriand for two, carved tableside, or an 18-ounce Australian Lobster Tail. The establishment also includes two cigar lounges and a full bar. Private rooms accommodate up to 45 people.

This perennial favorite is always crowded, with a noisy "happy family" atmosphere. Dark green woodgrain tables accommodate only 36 diners, so reservations are recommended. Start with Wagyu beef carpaccio or salt cod soufflé fritters. Try the innovative pizzas - fig, fennel & parmigiano. Try the locally-sourced eggs baked on Salmoriglio sauce with Caciocavallo, capers and Sicilian. anchovy fillets. Don't skip Verdi di Nonna ("grandma's greens"). On Wednesdays, go for the Market Dinner, a special 3-course menu devised from that day's Columbia City farmers market. Delicious daily desserts and cheese selections presented on the blackboard. Well-selected Italian and Northwest wine list. -Kate Navarro

Two successful businesswomen, with MBAs and a love of wine, teamed with a celebrated local chef to draw food and wine novices and aficionados alike to this comfortably chic Belltown wine bar. An astounding array of wines by the glass, from $5 Washington dry Riesling to $480 (yes, for a glass) Screaming Eagle. Cleverly marked with icons noting everything from female winemakers to organic or biodynamic and grouped into categories like "engaging" and "bombshell." The wines beautifully complement the local, organic, and seasonal menu. Nibble some truffle popcorn, sip some bubby, and stay connected with free wi-fi. -Kate Navarro

On a sunny day you can sit outside on the rooftop deck, where shorts, sunglasses and lively chatter run rampant and everyone seems rejuvenated by the awesome backdrop of Elliot Bay.
