Another shopping haunt on Ballard Avenue, this early 20th century European style gift store provides you specialty products in the perfect ambience. Whether you are for the modern or vintage, this shop provides something for all tastes. There are also imported teas, hand made paper, candles and body care products. A great place to shop for gifts, as long as you are oblivious to rude service.

Mr. Spots Chai House

Earthy and enjoyable cafe
2213 Northwest Market Street
Seattle, WA 98107
United States
+1 206 297 2424
http://www.chaihouse.com
Right now chai is the hot drink, so to speak. Have a glass of the thick sweet tea here. This slightly nutty place has a sunken seating area, a few grimy computers by the entrance (free use with drink purchase), a little shopping nook (greeting cards, incense, etc.), and jars and jars of teas and herbs. Music groups play on the corner stage in the evening. Try the Morning Glory Chai, spicy and steamed with milk. Simple comfort foods include grilled cheese sandwiches and garden burgers.

Olivine

Exquisite women's clothier
5344 Ballard Avenue Northwest
Seattle, WA 98107
United States

Yet another of the upscale shops taking over Ballard Avenue, this one shows the rest how it's done. Small yet spacious, elegant yet informal, pricey yet somehow you just don't care, this clothing shop caters to petite women who can wear exquisite clothing well. But even those not blessed with perfect dimensions enjoy fingering the fabrics of little-girl dresses, hoisting the elaborately embroidered Kate Spade handbags and handling the perfectly stitched slippers and shoes. Here the aesthetics-worshipping atmosphere is (almost) as pleasurable as the purchase.

Secret Garden Bookshop

Story time and workshops
2214 Northwest Market Street
Seattle, WA 98107
United States
+1 206 789 5006

For more than 22 years (and through three owners), this bookstore has been delighting parents and children alike with its wonderful collection of hand-picked books. For children there are nonfiction, biography and poetry books. For adults there are books on parenting and about children, plus general-interest books. But for children and adults, the emphasis here is on literature. Every Thursday at 10:30a and 7p, the store holds story time. Children, primarily ages 4-6, rush in early to get a good listening spot. The shop regularly invites school groups to meet authors for readings and workshops. Check the Web site for a calendar of events.
