Moroccan flavors hang heavy in the air. Ethnic clothing and accessories for the gypsy at heart, is what one would find at Alhambra. The collection will appeal to followers of European fashion. Jewelry inlaid with precious and semi precious stones are on display and go well with their flowing skirts or enticing tunics. Footwear freaks can feast on their delectable range. On the whole a delightful experience to browse through their stuff and if you are ready to splurge-go ahead! For those with a tight budget try their warehouse in Pike Place market but you may have to do with last season's leftovers. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Comprehensive basement tobacconist |
1522 Fifth Avenue, Suite 101 Seattle, WA 98101-1698 United States +1 206 587 0159 |
When the grand old department store Frederick and Nelson's closed down a few years back, the tobacconist in its basement Arcade had to move out. Luckily, it only moved a few blocks, to another basement location. The fluorescent lighting detracts from the smoky glamour, but if you're a serious nicotine fan, you won't care. Paraphernalia include lacquered wooden humidors, gleaming silver Zippo lighters, shiny wooden Dunhill pipes, and metal and leather cigarette and cigar cases. And, yes, it sells plenty of cigars, pipe tobacco and cigarettes, too. Review © 2007, Wcities |

In a town packed with bookstores, this one thrives by providing a large selection of books on many subjects, including a good collection of mysteries, biographies, history, the latest in fiction and general non-fiction and plenty of paperbacks, plus an excellent selection of gay and lesbian titles. The atmosphere is clean and comfortable. The staff is knowledgeable. The store offers an incentive to regular buyers, a free 11th book equal in value to the average value of the first 10. This chain might have feared to tread in the home of Amazon.com and beloved independent bookstores. But the combination of immense selection (in books, magazines, books on tape, CDs and computer products) and convenient Pacific Place location has won the store many fans. The staff may not always be familiar with the huge inventory, but when you can sip your latte and take naps in the armchairs unhindered, who cares? Review © 2007, Wcities |

What Elliott Bay Book Company is to new books, this store is to used ones. A Seattle institution, it offers an enormous selection of titles on every conceivable subject, offered at very reasonable prices. While many stores favor popular authors and major presses, this one finds room for many less famous figures and publishers. It is a perfect store if you know you want a book, but don't know which one. Browsing is encouraged. Review © 2007, Wcities |

No, this isn't Barnes & Noble, although the bright lights, and squeaky-clean layout of books and compact discs looks awfully similar. 401 Broadway Avenue East Seattle, WA 98102 United States +1 206 322 1610 |
This mall has undergone many changes over the years but continues to meet the needs of the Capitol Hill locals. Besides being the only public space protected from the rain, the market also offers the only public parking garage. It does have a Gap, an Urban Outfitters, a Gold's Gym and a QFC, but it's also got funky stores and restaurants with a twist. Independent vendors sell jewelry and other knick-knacks from pushcarts, and there are indispensable services such as a video rental shop, a shoe repair shop, and a florist. While it functions as an indoor shopping center, the layout evokes its past as a slightly more hip and fiercely independent public center. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A Seattle designer who's done well enough to open shops in New York and San Francisco, Stenderu specializes in brightly hand-painted casual wear. From hats to handbags, this small shop carries all sorts of vintage treasures. The quality of goods is excellent, but the sizes tend to be toward the tiny side. Styles vary considerably. Find a fabulous zoot suit or a zippy pair of orange platform boots. Accessories are often from the 40s and 50s. Think hand made beads, sequins and ornate styling. Huge selection |
201 North East 45th Street Seattle, WA 98105 United States +1 206 547 2260 http://www.goldenoldies-record... |
The store isn't much to look at outside, and inside it's downright rustic, with bare wood and cardboard, but the enormous selection of used vinyl records, CDs and cassettes is unparalleled in the area. The store specializes in oldies, but it carries everything from hard rock to country to carnival music and other obscure categories. Prices may seem a little high for used merchandise, but the shop's access to more than 10 million titles means it has (or can find), what you want. Call for branch information. The name of this store is no exaggeration, all books sold here are at least half off the cover price. Crammed into a cavernous two-storey space, the inventory runs from comic books to computer software to classics, and if you want to find anything specific or even useful, you'll have to hunt. All that is the best in denim is at Ian's. Right from Rag & Bones to Ernest Sewn... all the major brands, in all the styles cuts and finishes that you can conjure up. A visitor to this store very rarely goes out empty handed, unless they are too confused to decide what not to buy. Trendy accessories to go with the clothes are also part of their latest collection. Once your eyes grow accustomed to the dimness of this shop, they'll widen at the array of preserved elegance. The specialty here is pre-1960s clothing, with strengths in turn-of-the-century and 1930s duds. Gowns are delicately made, jewelry terribly fine, hats and caps quaint if outdated. The only disappointments come from the lack of costume rental, and from the fact that women used to be much shorter and smaller. The average 1990s woman simply can't fit into that 1910 lace wedding gown. But it sure is pretty to look at. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Basic 50s-style barbershop |
407 15th Avenue East Seattle, WA 98112 United States +1 206 322 5651 |
The traditional red, white and blue barber pole announces the presence of a gruff, 50s-style barbershop. Two barber chairs upholstered in red, two mirrors and sinks, and a scattering of men's magazines create that authentic macho look. The one oddly feminine touch is the figurative art for sale on the walls. Don't come here for hairstyling. Chop, chop and you're done. Last seating is at 5:15p. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Delicately made shoes, often detailed with fine straps, buttons and buckles, are the raison d'être of this shoe shop. The men's selection is almost as wide as the women's, but this is really a shop for people who appreciate elegant, understated, even feminine, footwear. There are at least two other shops in town named for the plume on Cyrano de Bergerac's hat, but they've got nothing on the fabulousness of this Capitol Hill shop. Garish nail polish, poufy scarves, snug hats, chunky sunglasses and delicate jewelry take up half this shop, while cheap party clothing for pretty young things, male and female, occupies the other half. If you're looking for glittery, stretchy, synthetic tops, miniskirts and trousers, look here. The market has numerous shops, including a health food and herb store, craft stores, and flower stands. Stop by Sur la Table, where you'll find tools with which to prepare your recently purchased ingredients. Don't forget to pick up fresh-baked pastries for dessert, and stop at one of the restaurants for lunch or an authentic Seattle latte before heading home. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Pretty in pink |
119 Summit Avenue East Seattle, WA 98102 United States +1 206 405 2883 http://www.prettyparlor.com/ |
A visit to this shop will surely revive "Legally Blonde" culture, with the decor boldly proclaiming that feminine is fine and cute is cool! You'll find a whole range of vintage products—crystal jewelry, petticoats, silk lanterns, and much more. The in-house Ruthie's Sewing Shop allows you to get your clothes custom made, not compromising on the fit. If gentle men do manage to get themselves here, there is a range for them too with rock, cowboy and Hawaiian options. Overall, the place can be a bit pricey, but the products and the great service make up for it. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Shop for the outdoors |
222 Yale Avenue North Seattle, WA 98109 United States +1 206 223 1944 / +1 888 873 1938 http://www.rei.com/stores/seat... |
With a three-floor climbing wall enclosed in glass, this outdoor emporium is hard to miss. The store offers a shopping experience that is almost as much fun as the great outdoors. Customers test parkas and Gore-Tex windbreakers in a special rain booth. Hikers stomp up a simulated hill in the shoe department to test hiking boots, and climbers scale the rock face for a spectacular view of the skyline. Outside, a coffee bar provides hot drinks, while inside you'll find a juice bar and small restaurant. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Vintage galore |
312 Broadway Avenue East Seattle, WA 98102 United States +1 206 329 2200 http://www.redlightvintage.com/ |
This two-story vintage store on Broadway is a treat for the hip and voguish on a tight budget. However, for a new-and-used shop, it can also be termed as pricey. There is a counter here, where you can "buy", "sell" and "trade" all your old clothes for someone else's old ones. But don't be surprised if your merchandise is rejected.... they are very particular about what they accept. You'll find fashions from the 50's, 60's and 70's—corduroy pants, Levi's, jackets, halters, slips, bathing suits and a lot of accessories including belts, wigs, sunglasses and not to forget roller skates, all lined up for you to pick from.
