Twenty-five years of service |
4538 University Way Northeast Seattle, WA 98105 United States +1 206 634 2280 |
For more than 25 years, this independent store has supplied great music at low prices. When it opened in the University District in 1972, it carried used records, cassettes and eight-track tapes. Today, the company has four stores selling new and used music, mostly rock. (Compact discs have replaced eight-tracks.) The people who work here are music aficionados, and they can deftly lead you toward what you are looking for. The friendly employees and the great selection of hard-to-find music keep customers coming back. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Trendy, tough shoes |
4309-1/2 University Way Northeast Seattle, WA 98105 United States +1 206 547 3192 |
Just five doors up from its practical-minded parent shop, The Woolly Mammoth, this shoe store is a typically reckless offspring. It still focuses on sturdy shoes, but in youthful, trendy styles. Doc Martens are plentiful, as are urban Mary Janes, oxfords, clogs and boots. If a pair of Annex shoes doesn't take a few years off your age, it will at least add a few tottering inches to your height. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Humanities speciality |
5220 University Way Northeast (suite B) Seattle, WA 98105 United States +1 206 527 2480 |
Tucked away on the upper reaches of University Way is this little delight of a bookstore, which makes up for what it lacks in size through sheer over-crowded clutter. Specializing in humanities (literature through theology), it offers very reasonable prices and the buy-back rate is generous if you have titles to unload. Be aware of the lunch hour, as the sleepy staff is notorious for taking long lunches, well past the allotted time. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Bargain books |
4709 Roosevelt Way Northeast Seattle, WA 98105 United States +1 206 547 7859 http://www.halfpricebooks.com |
The name of this store is no exaggeration, all books sold here are at least half off the cover price. Crammed into a cavernous two-storey space, the inventory runs from comic books to computer software to classics, and if you want to find anything specific or even useful, you'll have to hunt. But the new and used selection is unbeatable, and the staff is very helpful. There are records and magazines, too. There's also a branch in Bellevue at the Crossroads Mall (+1 425 747 6616). 6504, 20th Avenue Seattle, WA 98115 United States +1 206 525 2347 http://www.ravennathirdplace.com/ info@ravennathirdplace.com |
Books are an integral, timeless source of knowledge, which Ravenna's clearly recognizes. The entire bookshop is created from second-hand books and was formed by a group of book-lovers who just couldn't see these books go to waste. Every now and then the group comes together to discuss their latest favorites, with events like "Science on Tap" a discussion on all things science with alcoholic beverages also available from the adjacent pub. This is definitely the perfect place to sit and watch the world go by and meet a whole lot of interesting folks in the process. Review © 2007, Wcities |
