Located right through the main entrance to Pike Place Market, this famous fish market makes occasional appearances in movies and on television. You can't miss the fish flying through the air. The fish and shellfish are fresh, displayed in crushed ice all around the counter. The stand sells wild salmon, yellow fin tuna, halibut, crab, prawns and more. You can have your purchase packed to take home, or the mongers will ship it anywhere. Shoppers stop to watch the fish-throwing show.

http://www.pikeplacemarket.org
One of Seattle's most famous landmarks, this is the oldest continuously working public market in the country. Shop for fresh vegetables and fruits. Stop by Pike Place Fish to see fish fly. The market has numerous shops, including a health food and herb store, craft stores, and flower stands. Stop by Sur la Table, where you'll find tools with which to prepare your recently purchased ingredients. Don't forget to pick up fresh-baked pastries for dessert, and stop at one of the restaurants for lunch or an authentic Seattle latte before heading home.

This museum is internationally recognized for its excellent collection of Asian, African and Native American art, and for its fine collection of modern art produced by Pacific Northwest artists. The permanent collection includes 21,000 pieces, and while it doesn't have huge collections of European art, it does have plentiful local art and wonderful visiting exhibits. The museum is centrally located downtown near the waterfront and Pike Place Market.

Located on Seattle's waterfront, next door to the Seattle Aquarium, this IMAX dome theater shows four films daily, but its mainstay is the Academy Award-nominated film "The Eruption of Mount St. Helens." Watching the great volcanic eruption on an 180-degree domed screen that fills your field of vision makes you feel as though you are actually there. Other featured films have depicted the Amazon River and rain forest, Alaska and the Olympic Games.

Seattle Waterfront

Waterfront neighborhood
Alaskan Way
From South Main Street to Denny Way
Seattle, WA 98101
United States
With numerous fun-but-tacky tourist shops and the Alaskan Way Viaduct thundering overhead, it's a wonder any natives visit here. But the views are spectacular; the Bainbridge Island ferry leaves from Colman Dock; and the popular Summer Nights at the Pier concerts play at sublime Pier 62/63. The Seattle Aquarium and the Odyssey Maritime Discovery Center are also here. The old streetcar clangs along the length of the waterfront, and the green spaces of Myrtle Edwards Park take over from the concrete mayhem at the northern end.

Seattle, WA 98101

+1 206 684 4075 (Seattle Parks)

Named for the mid-century Seattle architect and artist who fought to preserve the Pike Place Market, this park is minuscule but beloved. The grassy knoll provides a much needed rest and lunch spot for market visitors and workers. The view of Elliott Bay (over the admittedly horrendous Alaskan Way Viaduct) is fabulous. Steinbrueck's son, Peter, is now a member of the city council, and is fighting to preserve the park's views from a hotel developer who wants to block them. The Seattle tradition of liberal politics lives on.
