Aconcagua

Latin American lit, history, & anthro
Calle de Don Alfonso El Sabio
Seville 41004
Spain
Ángel, one of the owners, says it as clearly as possible: here there is a subtle love for books that almost goes unnoticed. Together with his twin brother Manolo, he has run this specialized bookstore, located at the end of Siete Revueltas (Seven Turns), in the Alfalfa neighborhood. Those who love Spanish and Portuguese language literature will not leave empty-handed, given that this bookstore specializes in any hard to find item from Latin America and in Peruvian and Argentinian editions. Here editions by Mistral, anthropology of the Andes, everything by Saramago, and the most current writings all come to rest, albeit momentarily.

This chain of bookstores grows exponentially and is present in almost all parts of Seville. Downtown, you seem to run into their stores wherever you go. Spacious and organized by theme, here you can find almost anything on any subject. In this establishment sales are common. In addition, depending on the date, they usually have displays on Sevillian subjects, although all year long there is a section devoted to the Brotherhoods of Seville, the History of Seville, and other aspects of the land.

Seville 41001

May is the month chosen to celebrate Book Day and, with it, this Fair that for about two weeks turns Seville's town squares into improvised bookstores, perfect for strolling along and flipping through the many publications on display. The Plaza de San Francisco, the Plaza Nueva, and the Prado de San Sebastián have served in years past to house this meeting of the most distinguished bookstores in the city, that here display the best of their shelves. Success here is a sure thing, especially on weekends, when dozens of curious onlookers come to check out the stalls. There are also various activities related to books and reading: presentations, book-signings by well known authors, conferences, reading workshops, and CD-ROM displays.

It is the university bookstore par excellence, where hundreds of young people dedicated to the Arts and Humanities find their textbooks, reference guides, and the specialized bibliography that the various programs of study of the University of Sevilla require every year. In front of the Hotel Alfonso XIII and a few meters from the old Fábrica de Tabacos (Tabacco Factory), where the Schools of History, Philosophy, and Law get together, if they don't have what you're looking for in the Giraldillo, they will surely find it for you. In addition, they have a wide selection of magazines of the Arts, Philosophy, Humanities and so on, and a window displaying their latest adquisitions. And if you are a bargin hunter, in the downstairs floor you will find art books at cut-down prices, half-priced classics, manuals, and much more.

Specializing in computers and science
Calle De Luis Montoto 65
Seville 41018
Spain

It certainly doesn't go unnoticed. Close to the "golden mile," in the busy Luis Montoto Street, this large windowed establishment, where you can find everything for computers, engineering, and the various sciences resides.Although it does not specialize in Humanities, there are also a wide range of "best sellers" and other types of books. With wide open spaces and good lighting to find what you're looking for, the bookstore has a very 21st Century look to it. Although it may seem somewhat impersonal to you, there are manuals that you can only find here, and good advice and service.

Literature for everyone's pockets
Calle Almirante Apodaca 23-25
Seville 41003
Spain
+34 95 421 4084
This small bookstore is on the way for anyone going to or from downtown. In front of the Hemeroteca Municipal (Municipal Newspaper Library) and next to one of the most popular bars in the city, El Tremendo, it is difficult not to notice their window displays, especially the covers of the film or music books, while you're drinking your "suds". The prices aren't too different from the rest of the city's bookstores, and here you can find above all best sellers, recent publications, novels, and paperback books. The advantage to shopping here is that since it is a small store, the clerks are helpful and they will aid you in finding that book you've been looking for.

Renacimiento

Literary treasures and old editions
Calle Mateos Gago 27
Seville 41004
Spain
+34 95 422 0728
Located in the heart of the historical center of the city, in the cobbledstoned Mateos Gago, and a stone's throw away from the Cathedral, more than one tourist has been spotted peering through its windows without quite knowing what it was that was hiding behind its simple door. In addition to being a buy-and-sell bookstore, in this warehouse of knowledge you can find the publishing company that bears the same name. Second hand books, first editions, facsimiles, uncataloged books and much more. The owner brought thousands of editions from New York that he has been cataloging and arranging in this store for the delight of specialists and lovers of Letters. His archives are computerized, so it will be easy for you to find what you're looking for, although it actually is more pleasant to lose yourself among the shelves of old books and come across the first edition of Neruda's Odes or Alexandre's poems.

Good reading on the way to the Cathedral

On the way to the Cathedral, after leaving San Fernando or Constitution Streets (depending on the direction from which you come), this little bookstore is found. A giant podium where there is always a art or history book open for reading and a small window display with the latest publications are what will surely induce you to stop in for a while. In addition, the owner, very knowledgable about Literature, has everything organized by subject and makes it a pleasure to look for anything - which, of course, is another lure for you to come inside. Poetry to the left, novels to the right, and towards the back, art books. So do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a great new edition.
