Cruise along the Sheffield canal, enjoying the views this comfortable and unusual restaurant offers. A Thirty Nine (a refurbished cargo carrier now traditionally decorated) attracts families, couples, and professionals of all ages. The boat can also be chartered for private parties or business functions. A range of traditional English meat dishes are offered and vegetarian options are also available. Trout with almonds and the deliciously smooth creamy leek croustade are recommended. (2 course meals are from about £30.) House wine is from about £8 a bottle and a bar is also available. Reservations can be made for Wednesday and Friday evenings and for Sunday lunchtime. The first Saturday evening in every month is also available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Sophisticated Italian restaurant |
Unit 8-10 Cambridge St Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 4HN United Kingdom +44 114 273 0073 http://www.askcentral.co.uk/ |
ASK Pasta and Pizza serves exactly what the name suggests, but in a rather superior way. This modern city centre restaurant is cool in the extreme, incorporating white walls, pale floors, and black wooden chairs, all of which provide sophisticated and spacious surroundings for a pleasant and relaxing meal. In this restaurant, you're made to feel comfortable whether you're with friends or on your own. Not surprisingly, there's lots of fresh pasta and pizza, but there are also options such as bruschetta with marinated tomatoes, red onions and basil - this is very good value given the quality of both food and surroundings. Small Italian restaurant |
119 Devonshire Street Sheffield, South Yorkshire S3 7SB United Kingdom +44 114 279 9394 |
This cosy, city centre-based Italian restaurant, which is decorated in the style of a traditional Italian bistro, with small tables, brightly coloured tablecloths and subdued lighting, offers a wide range of pizza, pasta and lasagne dishes (and more). Main meals cost around £9. The delicious ravioli dishes are particularly popular and the various lasagne meals are also recommended. This is an ideal place to come for a celebration or to start a night out and service is excellent. Customers can bring their own wine - but book in plenty of time, as BB's is extremely popular, especially at weekends. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Large restaurant with excellent reputation |
Brincliffe Hill Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 9DF United Kingdom +44 114 255 3263 |
This restaurant, which is based in two large rooms with lots of seating space, has an excellent reputation in Sheffield, although it is usually only open at lunchtimes. It serves delicious meals from an impressive menu. (Options which are particularly good include the succulent chicken in white wine with vegetables.) Alcohol is available from two bars and wine can be ordered from the table. This is an ideal venue for a business lunch or celebration. It also hosts occasional theme nights for the public and is available to hire for private evening functions. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Upmarket bar brasserie |
Charnwood Hotel 10 Sharrow Lane Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8AA United Kingdom +44 114 258 9411 |
Brasserie Leo is part of the Charnwood Hotel, but has its own entrance on London Road. The restaurant is based on two levels and its décor is stylish, incorporating a good deal of dark wood and mosaics as well as brass and large mirrors. It is very well-lit and this, in conjunction with white linen and a good number of windows, creates an airy, welcoming feel. Tables are widely spaced, so privacy is available for discreet business discussions, but though the atmosphere is relatively formal, the clientele usually includes a good number of locals as well as hotel guests. The menu is intelligent and innovative - for instance, a warm salad of peppered venison might be followed by a main course of sautéed king scallops. Also look out for the specials board, which offers some interesting alternatives to the main menu. Prices begin at about £4.50 for a starter and range from about £10 to £15 for a main course. The food isn't cheap but all the ingredients are fresh and the quality is extremely good. In addition to its advertised opening hours, Brasserie Leo will open at lunchtime on request. Smart but relaxing with impressive menu |
631-633 Ecclesall Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8PT United Kingdom +44 114 267 0565 http://www.caffeuno.co.uk/ |
Caffé Uno is part of a national chain with a deserved reputation for providing good quality food at reasonable prices. This outlet, near Hunter's Bar, provides customers with well presented, high quality Italian food such as spaghetti carbonara or pollo al rosmario (chicken with rosemary). This is a bright, modern restaurant with plenty of space and a mixed clientele. It is an excellent place to meet friends or business colleagues in the certainty that you are not going to be disappointed. It is equally good for coffee and snacks. Staff is cheerful and obliging and the restaurant is very child friendly; in fact, the attitude towards families is quite Italian. A small bar area is available for pre-dinner drinks. Cool, calm and collected, Sheffield's airy Café Rouge offers an ideal respite from the hustle and bustle of Ecclesall Road. Whether you want a three course meal or just a glass of wine, this attractive venue has what you need. Both food and service are impeccable and the prices are reasonable. The two course menu, which is available during the week from noon until 4p, offers particularly good value. The clientèle varies from business people to well-off students and the atmosphere is always laid-back. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Big restaurant, big menu, big tables |
27 London Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S2 4LA United Kingdom +44 114 272 5311 |
This large restaurant (which seats 150) is accessed from street level via a relatively steep flight of stairs. Inside, the restaurant is usually busy but service is quick and efficient and you won't be kept waiting long to order. The tables are generally very large and there is no music: this is the sort of place that suits large groups rather than an intimate tête-à-tête. The menu is huge and food is usually both delicious and very good value - a set menu for two is from about £13 and drinks are also reasonably priced. Candytown is popular with members of the Chinese community as well as with family, office and business groups. Bear in mind that the entrance stairs are relatively steep and that there is no lift. Top-class English cooking |
289 Abbeydale Road South Sheffield, South Yorkshire S17 3LB United Kingdom +44 114 235 0101 http://www.carriagesrestaurant... |
You don't expect to find one of Sheffield's best restaurants in a building that looks a bit like a prefab beside a main railway line, but Carriages is extremely impressive, so be prepared for a surprise! The food is outstanding and the excellent reputation the restaurant has locally is richly deserved. The style is modern English, with starters, such as baked blue cheese tartlet with caramelised onions followed by unusual combinations like slow-roasted fillet of salmon with bubble and squeak and grilled proscuitto. If you've any room left, the puddings are equally worth exploring. The clientele includes professionals and couples and this is also a favourite venue for business meetings. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Informal, lively setting |
10 Commonside Walkley Sheffield, South Yorkshire S10 1GB United Kingdom +44 114 268 6983 |
Chez Lahlou offers great food in an informal, lively setting. It is popular locally and is usually busy. Subtle lighting and attentive service means it feels intimate enough to appeal to couples (though bear in mind that it is small and that the tables are close together) but it also attracts small groups and families. The atmosphere is laid back and nothing is rushed, but given the gargantuan portions on offer that's no bad thing, as you'll probably need time between courses to recover. The garlic sausage starter is a meal in itself and the French and Italian-themed main courses, like the fillet aux trois poivres, are accompanied by a mountain of vegetables. Warm chocolate profiteroles and other delights await the few who can still manage a dessert. This is definitely a place to linger. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Attractive restaurant overlooking Botanical Gardens |
Clarke House Rd Sheffield, South Yorkshire S10 2LN United Kingdom +44 114 268 7788 |
The original Curator's House in Sheffield's Botanical Gardens has recently been converted into a modern, attractive restaurant and tea room, which retain original features. In addition to the house itself, a large conservatory and terrace overlooking the gardens are now fully accessible to the restaurant's customers. During the day, expect to find tea, coffee and hot and cold snacks but in the evening, the menu is transformed. Try cannelloni of crab with bisque for starters, and fillet of beef with sautéd spinach and chanterelle for the main course. Prices are reasonable; main course options range from about £8 in the evening and a set menu charge covers two courses. There is an additional charge for desserts and coffee. Review © 2007, Wcities |

All American restaurant |
2 Sevenairs Road Beighton Sheffield, South Yorkshire S19 1NZ United Kingdom +44 114 251 1821 |
Located outside the city centre but easily accessible by the Supertram network, Damon's is a very popular and very modern venue for breakfast, lunch or dinner in a light, airy setting. Sit in a booth or at a long table or sip cocktails from the luxurious comfy sofas in the bar area. At Damon's restaurant, the American theme ensures big choice, big portions and a big atmosphere. In Sheffield, Damon's has an unrivalled reputation for its spicy ribs. The menu offers some tasty options and there is an impressive choice of cocktails. This is a particularly good place to host a celebration and anyone celebrating a birthday here eats for free. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Very popular, with real atmosphere |
Abbeydale Road South The Old Station Sheffield, South Yorkshire S17 3LB United Kingdom +44 114 262 0675 http://delhijunction.co.uk/ |
The décor is smart but distinctive: there is a lot of black lacquer and gold leaf and the waiters always wear dinner jackets. The Maitre d' is a real character, who welcomes diners personally and will gladly recommend a selection of dishes for you. The restaurant is situated in the old Dore railway station and trains can still be heard rattling past on the line outside, although most customers feel that this adds atmosphere and does not detract from the surroundings or from the experience of enjoying the excellent food. Italian restaurant with Mexican connections |
33 Carver Street Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 4FS United Kingdom +44 114 275 5264 |
La Gondola is a well-established Italian restaurant with a lovely relaxed atmosphere and a great reputation for good, simple cooking, and it is very popular within Sheffield. The usual range of Italian pasta and pizzas are available from £6 to £8, and a more unusual range of Mexican dishes - for instance a Mexican tortilla filled with beef, red beans and chilli - provide a variety of slightly more expensive options. House wine is very reasonably priced, and don't miss the specials boards - in all likelihood, the chef will be doing something interesting with mussels or other seasonal ingredients. The décor is bright and lighting subdued, which creates a relaxed atmosphere. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Simple with excellent food |
176 Crookes Sheffield, South Yorkshire S10 1UH United Kingdom +44 114 266 6052 |
If you see someone wandering through the Crookes area with a pint of beer in their hand, you can be fairly sure they're heading for Indian Chef. You can take drinks bought from the nearby Ball Inn into the restaurant or bring a bottle of wine or two from home if you prefer (there's no charge for corkage). Once inside the small, open-plan dining area, you can order from an extensive choice of reasonably priced dishes: a starter won't set you back more than £2.50, and a very pleasant chicken tikka kurma costs around £6. The quality of food is excellent but furnishings are simple and as this isn't in the city centre it isn't the kind of restaurant visitors tend to discover for themselves. Locals and students form the core of the evening clientèle, although the daytime opening hours also make this an interesting business lunch option. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This friendly family-run restaurant on Ecclesall Road is a popular choice with Sheffield diners looking for good value Italian fare. The décor has a rich feel, with brick wall and dark red and gold fabrics. As well as pizza, the menu offers pasta dishes, and risotto as well as a good choice of beef, chicken veal and seafood appetizers and a lighter lunchtime menu. The restaurant has a full bar and its own wine list, but you are also welcome to bring your own wine from Sunday to Thursday. Review © 2007, Wcities |

961 Ecclesall Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8TN United Kingdom +44 114 267 6161 |
This friendly local eatery is deservedly popular with local families and couples as well as business visitors and offers extremely good value for money. The menu is predictable Italian fare; pasta is available at reasonably priced and so are the pizzas. For something a little bit different, try chicken with parma ham. The restaurant is not licensed, but customers are welcome to bring their own wine. If you are feeling romantic, ask for the famous lucky table: half a dozen engagements are reputed to have started here! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Quality Italian restaurant |
234 Abbeydale Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S7 1FL United Kingdom +44 114 258 7664 |
Luna Rossa is a relatively recent addition to the Sheffield restaurant scene. Considering the amount of competition in Sheffield, any new Italian restaurant has to be good to survive - and Luna Rossa is. The menu demonstrates the basics of Italian cooking: good ingredients, simple techniques and bold flavours. There is pasta and pizza in abundance but if you look carefully you are certain to find something new and original. How about venison steak, Gorgonzola and spinach for instance? The restaurant has an informal atmosphere, is subtly decorated, and is popular with local couples. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Atmospheric Greek restaurant |
117 Fitzwilliam St Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 4JP United Kingdom +44 114 272 6000 |
This very large Greek restaurant is based in the city centre, offering Greek and British dishes at reasonable prices. The moussaka is particularly delicious as are other Greek specialities. Though food is only served for two hours, the restaurant stays open into the early hours. Wine can be ordered and a bar serves excellent local bitters. The restaurant is popular with large groups, who enjoy the lively atmosphere which includes traditional plate smashing. Dancing and singing also take place around a small stage. Booking is advisable and can be arranged in person or by phone. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This Caribbean restaurant has now been established for almost two years, and has built quite a following in Sheffield. The menu concentrates on the main islands, Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad but do watch the specials boards, where dishes from the smaller islands sometimes appear. The menu isn't expensive, with starters like salt fish fritters priced at about £3.75 and a main course of jerk chicken at around £10. The restaurant is licensed and carries a range of Caribbean beers. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Boasting an "attitude code" instead of a dress code, Menzels strives to serve the best drinks and service in a sophisticated yet friendly atmosphere. Décor is complementary to this aim, contemporary classic yet inviting. Be sure to check their website for info about live music and bands of every genre as well as special events. Also available for corporate and private events and parties, the bar boasts a top of the line Bose sound system and a drop screen on which music videos, messages, even personal footage can be shown. Classy and cutting-edge |
Park Lodge Sheffield, South Yorkshire S8 0LA United Kingdom +44 114 235 3080 |
Seemingly based on a fashionable London brasserie, you might forget that you're still in Sheffield once you step inside this classy, internationally-flavored restaurant, which feels spacious and is decorated in a modern, understated way, in subdued colors, with a good deal of space around tables. There is a set menu as well as an à la carte menu, which consists of seven starters and eight main courses. Dishes are adventurous, steering well clear of the norm, and include several vegetarian options: the quality is generally excellent. The extensive wine list includes many reasonably-priced bottles as well as some more special options. This is a great place to spend an evening and is secluded enough to work well for a date, but is also formal enough to make it a good business choice. Service is attentive but not insistent and you will never feel rushed here. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Superb Italian restaurant and deli |
539-541 Ecclesall Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8PR United Kingdom +44 114 268 6166 http://www.nonnas.co.uk/conten... |
Open the door of Nonna's and you could almost be in northern Italy: real Italian coffee, pasta, wine, olives, prosciutto, and even Italian newspapers are all available. A coffee bar, restaurant and deli are shoehorned into what used to be a butcher's shop: this means the restaurant is small and booking is essential, but it is well worth the effort. Real Italian food and the freshest ingredients are cooked to perfection. In all, Nonna's is a little gem—almost too good to share! Review © 2007, Wcities |

The Old Vicarage, a first class restaurant by any standards, currently holds a Michelin Star (the only restaurant with this honor in Sheffield) and two Egon Ronay Stars. Spacious with excellent food |
186 London Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S2 6PG United Kingdom +44 114 255 1722 |
Eating Italian food in the heart of Sheffield might appear a little surreal but there are plenty of authentic Italian-owned restaurants about, and Pavarotti's is no exception; the quality of Italian cuisine here will make you feel as though you're sitting in the centre of Rome. The size of this cafe/restaurant is deceptive from the outside; the interior has two floors and is spacious. The main feature on the first floor is the semi-circular bar area, which allows diners to see the open-plan kitchen area, so they can watch food being freshly prepared. The menu offers everything you would expect of an Italian eatery and the rich aroma adds to this expectation from the moment you enter. Prices are very good and the portion sizes would not shame any Italian Mama. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Elegant pizza parlour (and jazz club) |
124 Devonshire St Sheffield, South Yorkshire S3 7SF United Kingdom +44 114 275 2755 |
Stainless steel, light polished wood and white walls with blocks of vibrant colour all help to make this large, modern restaurant feel both stylish and relaxed. Tables are discreetly arranged and customers often seem to be discussing business or on a date, although the restaurant is popular with families in the early evenings. Good provision is also made for groups, which tend to be seated on the upper floor where possible. The wide range of freshly-baked Italian style pizzas (priced from about £6)includes pizza veneziana, with raisins and pine kernels, pizza alle nocci with gorgonzola, spinach and walnuts and the pizza fiorentina, a vegetarian alternative which includes spinach and a free range egg. A few pasta dishes are also available and the excellent sweet menu includes chocolate fudge cake and luxury ice-cream bombes. Live jazz is played on the upper floor approximately once a month (see the website for details). Booking is not usually available and this can mean that the bar area is crowded and that service sometimes feels rushed, but the impressive quality of the food invariably compensates for this. Popular, innovative and excellent value |
220 Oakbrook Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 7ED United Kingdom +44 114 230 4819 |
You might easily miss this unusually-shaped restaurant - but that would be a tragedy! Housed upstairs in a seemingly nondescript building just round the corner from Nether Green Post Office, it features some of the most interesting and innovative cooking in South Yorkshire and has a justly excellent reputation in Sheffield. Try something unusual, like filo samosas with curried monkfish, or something traditional - such as braised lamb shank with root vegetables. Whichever route you take you will be pleasantly surprised by both taste and price - it won't cost much more than £25 per head for three courses. This is definitely not one to miss. Service is helpful but not intrusive and the décor is contemporary. The restaurant is popular with local couples as well as with small groups of professionals and business visitors. This restaurant is very much a star attraction in Sheffield and should appeal to anyone who enjoys excellent food but is unsure what to eat. Although these two restaurants are owned and operated by Richard Smith, the adjacency does provide patrons to the building a feeling of variety. Artisan, the contemporary bistro, presents a casual stylish stmosphere serving up all the dishes you would expect from a café including Bangers and Mash, Beef Fillets, or Shepards Pie. Upstairs, patrons are greeted to a quaint, informal seafood restaurant with an array of fresh dishes from Chesapeake seafood chowder to a Spaghetti of langoustines. Both restaurants are open seven days a week. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Superior Italian restaurant |
3 Sharrow Lane Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8AE United Kingdom +44 114 258 8164 |
The standard of both food and service in Rossi's is very high, but its most unusual feature is that it is housed in a former bank. This creates a great feeling of space - and eating between marble pillars certainly adds something special to the evening. You can choose from the usual range of pasta and pizzas and even this section of the menu makes you feel that what you are getting is the real thing. At the more expensive end of the menu, expect some interesting options, from about £14 per person, such as a casserole of fish and vegetables with saffron rice - a dish for two people to share. Service is excellent and as street parking is available outside, the doorman will even keep an eye on your car while you eat. Review © 2007, Wcities |
