Fashionable but friendly |
The Old Fire Station, Division St Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 4GF United Kingdom +44 114 279 2900 |
One of Sheffield's most popular bars, this converted fire station is where the city's trendsetters hang out. Exposed brick walls, high ceilings, a lot of stainless steel, very bright colours and a number of sofas all add to the very fashionable effect. However, both atmosphere and service are friendly and relaxed and the music is not obtrusive. The bar is always busy at night, especially on weekends. A full menu offers snacks, finger food, wraps and sandwiches. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This is a colourful and sociable place to eat. There's no need to take a magazine - the notice board has bright and plentiful reading on events and organizations around Sheffield. The menu mixes cuisine from Mexico to the Mediterranean to provide tasty and filling lunches at reasonable prices. Tea and coffee are also a delight (a range of both is available) and service is friendly and accommodating. Simple but sophisticated |
Millennium Galleries Arundel Gate Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 2PP United Kingdom +44 114 278 2600 |
As the name suggests, Cafe Azure is cool and blue. But what else would you expect? This restaurant/cafe is the main source of refreshment in the prestigious new Millennium Galleries and well-worth a visit in its own right. It's a high, airy venue with plenty of space. Additional tables are provided outside on Arundel Gate. The food is simple but sophisticated, with a good range of sandwiches and some attractive main courses, such as salmon and prawn fish cakes. Service can be slow but the restaurant is licensed and, given its situation, could become one of the most popular places to meet in Sheffield. The atmosphere, generally, is laid back—you will feel comfortable here even if you're on your own. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Comprehensive range of coffees |
1-3 Leopold Street Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 2GY United Kingdom +44 114 270 6566 |
Misleadingly named, Coffee.com is not crammed full of internet surfers or computers, but it is a great place to sample a comprehensive range of coffees and browse through the newspapers. Pale orange and light blue walls, wooden flooring and stainless steel tables create a fashionable atmosphere and though the cafe is small, tables are widely spaced so it never feels crowded. Choose between Colombian, Costa Rican, Kenyan, Javan and Ethiopian beans served as cappuccinos, filter coffees or as deliciously smooth caffé lattes, or be more adventurous and try the iced or syrup-flavoured versions. Attractive restaurant overlooking Botanical Gardens |
Clarke House Rd Sheffield, South Yorkshire S10 2LN United Kingdom +44 114 268 7788 |
The original Curator's House in Sheffield's Botanical Gardens has recently been converted into a modern, attractive restaurant and tea room, which retain original features. In addition to the house itself, a large conservatory and terrace overlooking the gardens are now fully accessible to the restaurant's customers. During the day, expect to find tea, coffee and hot and cold snacks but in the evening, the menu is transformed. Try cannelloni of crab with bisque for starters, and fillet of beef with sautéd spinach and chanterelle for the main course. Prices are reasonable; main course options range from about £8 in the evening and a set menu charge covers two courses. There is an additional charge for desserts and coffee. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Delicious and unusual sandwiches |
7 The Wicker Arches Walker Street Sheffield, South Yorkshire S3 8GZ United Kingdom +44 114 249 5555 |
Queues form every lunchtime in the shop under the railway arches at the end of the Wicker for a choice of sandwiches from bacon and brie to poached fresh salmon, from cajun chicken and lime dressing to strawberry jam. Look out for the "special" sandwich of the week, which will be advertised inside the shop. A good range of vegetarian options (such as soft cheese, apricots and walnuts) are available. Jacket potatoes, sweet and savoury pastries and the soup of the day are also offered. Tea, coffee and soft drinks are all sold, and you can eat in at the attractive loft-style cafe upstairs, which is extremely comfortable with wooden furniture and some easy chairs. Modern coffee shop and Bistro with varied menu |
9-13 Ashgate House, Ashgate Road Broomhill Sheffield, South Yorkshire S10 3BZ United Kingdom +44 114 268 4977 http://www.fable.org.uk/ |
Located alongside the S10 Gallery, and also owned by the F.A.B.L.E. Charity which helps epilepsy sufferers, the Fables Coffee shop isn't what you'd think of as a charity coffee shop. In fact, it is much more like a trendy city centre cafe-bar, where even Victoria Beckham wouldn't look out of place! The décor is modern but comfortable and the space is flooded in light. The Coffee Shop/Bistro offers a varied choice or great food in a relaxed, friendly environment. There isn't a bar so it's bring your own bottle, though there is a corkage fee. Wide range of teas and ice-creams, opposite Endcliffe Park |
1 Rustlings Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 7AA United Kingdom |
Although the name of this cafe draws attention to its impressive range of sorbets, ice-creams and sundaes, it is more than a gelateria. The cosy décor is English domestic and the staff show traditional Yorkshire friendliness. Customers are offered a wider choice of teas than of coffees and cups are refilled at no extra cost. Lunches include sandwiches (hot, cold and toasted), jacket potatoes and main meals such as omelettes, fish and chips or sausage and mash. There is also a separate children's menu. Full English breakfasts are available, including a vegetarian option with veggie burger and sausage. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Traditional cafe in the city centre |
252 Midland Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S71 4DN United Kingdom +44 1226 72 2479 |
This is an attractive, very traditional cafe, which serves reasonably-priced, good quality food to eat in or take away. A wide range of sandwiches, jacket potatoes, sausage rolls and pasties, hot meals, tea, coffee and soft drinks is on the menu. There are tables on the pavement outside the cafe, and on a sunny day, this is a most pleasant place to sit, as Surrey Street is located right next to Fargate, Sheffield's main pedestrian shopping area. Net access and imaginative snacks |
198 Whitham Road Broomhill Sheffield, South Yorkshire S10 2SS United Kingdom +44 114 266 7979 http://www.refreshcafe.co.uk/ |
Refresh offers those passing through Broomhill the chance to surf the Internet or to indulge in something from an imaginative drink and snack menu. There are currently eight 633mhz Pentium computers, with Internet access available from about £1.25 (for fifteen minutes). A coffee or tea (with exotic names such as "chi" and "passion") cost around £1.50, while a sandwich is between £2 and £3. Despite the facilities on offer, many of the business people, students and shoppers who pop in choose simply to eat or drink here, but the cafe is usually busy. When current expansion is complete in May 2001, Refresh will offer a substantially increased number of computers and a range of computer-related business, consultancy and training services. Superb Italian coffee bar |
259 Fulwood Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S10 3BD United Kingdom +44 114 266 5459 |
It doesn't matter what time you go to Remo's; it's always busy. This is definitely a good sign, so fight your way in if necessary - it's worth it! There are tables in the back, but most customers crowd into the tiny bar area for conversation, great Italian coffee, pastries and freshly made sandwiches on ciabatta or focaccia breads. If you're bored, you can watch television - but in Italian, of course! Remo's is a tiny piece of Italy in a Sheffield suburb and it's a gem. Don't miss it. Review © 2007, Wcities |
