Colourful, welcoming vegetarian and vegan cafe |
2 St. James Street, Cathedral Square Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 2EW United Kingdom +44 114 276 3443 |
This is a colourful and sociable place to eat. There's no need to take a magazine - the notice board has bright and plentiful reading on events and organizations around Sheffield. The menu mixes cuisine from Mexico to the Mediterranean to provide tasty and filling lunches at reasonable prices. Tea and coffee are also a delight (a range of both is available) and service is friendly and accommodating. This is a lovely place to eat and drink, with an excellent range of options for vegetarians and vegans. In warm weather, outside seating is available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Simple but sophisticated |
Millennium Galleries Arundel Gate Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 2PP United Kingdom +44 114 278 2600 |
As the name suggests, Cafe Azure is cool and blue. But what else would you expect? This restaurant/cafe is the main source of refreshment in the prestigious new Millennium Galleries and well-worth a visit in its own right. It's a high, airy venue with plenty of space. Additional tables are provided outside on Arundel Gate. The food is simple but sophisticated, with a good range of sandwiches and some attractive main courses, such as salmon and prawn fish cakes. Service can be slow but the restaurant is licensed and, given its situation, could become one of the most popular places to meet in Sheffield. The atmosphere, generally, is laid back—you will feel comfortable here even if you're on your own. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Smart but relaxing with impressive menu |
631-633 Ecclesall Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8PT United Kingdom +44 114 267 0565 http://www.caffeuno.co.uk/ |
Caffé Uno is part of a national chain with a deserved reputation for providing good quality food at reasonable prices. This outlet, near Hunter's Bar, provides customers with well presented, high quality Italian food such as spaghetti carbonara or pollo al rosmario (chicken with rosemary). This is a bright, modern restaurant with plenty of space and a mixed clientele. It is an excellent place to meet friends or business colleagues in the certainty that you are not going to be disappointed. It is equally good for coffee and snacks. Staff is cheerful and obliging and the restaurant is very child friendly; in fact, the attitude towards families is quite Italian. A small bar area is available for pre-dinner drinks. Comprehensive range of coffees |
1-3 Leopold Street Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 2GY United Kingdom +44 114 270 6566 |
Misleadingly named, Coffee.com is not crammed full of internet surfers or computers, but it is a great place to sample a comprehensive range of coffees and browse through the newspapers. Pale orange and light blue walls, wooden flooring and stainless steel tables create a fashionable atmosphere and though the cafe is small, tables are widely spaced so it never feels crowded. Choose between Colombian, Costa Rican, Kenyan, Javan and Ethiopian beans served as cappuccinos, filter coffees or as deliciously smooth caffé lattes, or be more adventurous and try the iced or syrup-flavoured versions. Delicious and unusual sandwiches |
7 The Wicker Arches Walker Street Sheffield, South Yorkshire S3 8GZ United Kingdom +44 114 249 5555 |
Queues form every lunchtime in the shop under the railway arches at the end of the Wicker for a choice of sandwiches from bacon and brie to poached fresh salmon, from cajun chicken and lime dressing to strawberry jam. Look out for the "special" sandwich of the week, which will be advertised inside the shop. A good range of vegetarian options (such as soft cheese, apricots and walnuts) are available. Jacket potatoes, sweet and savoury pastries and the soup of the day are also offered. Tea, coffee and soft drinks are all sold, and you can eat in at the attractive loft-style cafe upstairs, which is extremely comfortable with wooden furniture and some easy chairs. Sophisticated cafe-bar and Sheffield institution |
28 Cambridge St Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 4HP United Kingdom +44 114 275 2342 |
Although it is now a national chain, Henry's is a bit of a Sheffield institution. It opened in 1982 as one of the first "Henry's" in the country (and probably the first cafe-bar in Sheffield) and is still going strong. It occupies a corner site right in the city centre and is popular with both shoppers and business-people alike. Food is served all day: expect excellent coffee and tempting cakes, as well as a range of bottled beers and wines, or choose from the full menu (prices range from about £5), which includes a substantial all-day breakfast. Other options include some delicious starters (such as thai fish cakes) and a range of burgers and sandwiches. For something more special, try salmon fillet with sweet chili sauce. Wide range of teas and ice-creams, opposite Endcliffe Park |
1 Rustlings Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 7AA United Kingdom |
Although the name of this cafe draws attention to its impressive range of sorbets, ice-creams and sundaes, it is more than a gelateria. The cosy décor is English domestic and the staff show traditional Yorkshire friendliness. Customers are offered a wider choice of teas than of coffees and cups are refilled at no extra cost. Lunches include sandwiches (hot, cold and toasted), jacket potatoes and main meals such as omelettes, fish and chips or sausage and mash. There is also a separate children's menu. Full English breakfasts are available, including a vegetarian option with veggie burger and sausage. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Superb Italian restaurant and deli |
539-541 Ecclesall Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8PR United Kingdom +44 114 268 6166 http://www.nonnas.co.uk/conten... |
Open the door of Nonna's and you could almost be in northern Italy: real Italian coffee, pasta, wine, olives, prosciutto, and even Italian newspapers are all available. A coffee bar, restaurant and deli are shoehorned into what used to be a butcher's shop: this means the restaurant is small and booking is essential, but it is well worth the effort. Real Italian food and the freshest ingredients are cooked to perfection. In all, Nonna's is a little gem—almost too good to share! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Specialist tea and coffee shop and cafe |
York Street Unit 3-4 Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 2ER United Kingdom +44 114 275 7772 |
This specialist tea and coffee merchant was established in Sheffield in 1879. Nowadays, the smell of freshly ground coffee beans wafts out of the shop when it is open, tempting customers in. Once you're there, an impressive variety of good quality tea and coffee products are displayed behind a traditional sales counter. The knowledgeable sales staff will be pleased to help you choose from the wide selection - or you could try before you buy in the adjoining coffee shop. This popular self-service cafe, which is decorated in a comfortable, modern style, also offers light meals and snacks. Why not order the speciality coffee of the week and try something new?
