Large restaurant with excellent reputation |
Brincliffe Hill Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 9DF United Kingdom +44 114 255 3263 |
This restaurant, which is based in two large rooms with lots of seating space, has an excellent reputation in Sheffield, although it is usually only open at lunchtimes. It serves delicious meals from an impressive menu. (Options which are particularly good include the succulent chicken in white wine with vegetables.) Alcohol is available from two bars and wine can be ordered from the table. This is an ideal venue for a business lunch or celebration. It also hosts occasional theme nights for the public and is available to hire for private evening functions. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Simple but sophisticated |
Millennium Galleries Arundel Gate Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 2PP United Kingdom +44 114 278 2600 |
As the name suggests, Cafe Azure is cool and blue. But what else would you expect? This restaurant/cafe is the main source of refreshment in the prestigious new Millennium Galleries and well-worth a visit in its own right. It's a high, airy venue with plenty of space. Additional tables are provided outside on Arundel Gate. The food is simple but sophisticated, with a good range of sandwiches and some attractive main courses, such as salmon and prawn fish cakes. Service can be slow but the restaurant is licensed and, given its situation, could become one of the most popular places to meet in Sheffield. The atmosphere, generally, is laid back—you will feel comfortable here even if you're on your own. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Top-class English cooking |
289 Abbeydale Road South Sheffield, South Yorkshire S17 3LB United Kingdom +44 114 235 0101 http://www.carriagesrestaurant... |
You don't expect to find one of Sheffield's best restaurants in a building that looks a bit like a prefab beside a main railway line, but Carriages is extremely impressive, so be prepared for a surprise! The food is outstanding and the excellent reputation the restaurant has locally is richly deserved. The style is modern English, with starters, such as baked blue cheese tartlet with caramelised onions followed by unusual combinations like slow-roasted fillet of salmon with bubble and squeak and grilled proscuitto. If you've any room left, the puddings are equally worth exploring. The clientele includes professionals and couples and this is also a favourite venue for business meetings. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Froggatt Edge Sheffield, Derbyshire S32 3ZJ United Kingdom +44 1433 63 0231 http://www.chequers-froggatt.com/ |
This lovely pub, which is situated on open moorland just twenty minutes' drive from Sheffield city centre offers the chance of a summer evening drink in a pub garden with a beautiful view, or a superb, freshly cooked meal in an attractive pub bar. Traditional English steak is offered alongside original dishes borrowing from Mediterranean, Thai and Chinese cuisine. Food and drink all day |
Hathersage Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S17 3AB United Kingdom +44 114 235 5121 |
This large pub-restaurant, situated close to some of the surrounding area's most beautiful countryside, has built up a great reputation locally as an excellent place to eat. There is a small bar area but this is mainly used as a place to wait for tables: the separate eating section is larger and more comfortable. Food is served throughout the day and the menu includes Italian pasta dishes as well as chicken, fish and meat. Excellent, very big ice cream desserts are served. Food is reasonably priced and tables can usually be found quite quickly, as the eating area is so large. A children's menu is also available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Upmarket bar and restaurant |
375-385 Glossop Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S10 2HQ United Kingdom +44 114 275 5665 |
This branch of the national chain, situated close to Sheffield University and the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, is an attractive conversion of a Victorian villa. The large bar and separate restaurant area are stylishly decorated, and there is an emphasis on stainless steel and wood. The bar is famous throughout Sheffield for its cocktail menu and is popular with young professionals. An extensive menu of generally fresh food is available: starters begin at around £3.75 and standard main courses range from about £8 to £10. Luxuries such as grilled sea bream with garlic and capsicum are available from the specials board. A large car park is provided for the use of customers. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Classy and cutting-edge |
Park Lodge Sheffield, South Yorkshire S8 0LA United Kingdom +44 114 235 3080 |
Seemingly based on a fashionable London brasserie, you might forget that you're still in Sheffield once you step inside this classy, internationally-flavored restaurant, which feels spacious and is decorated in a modern, understated way, in subdued colors, with a good deal of space around tables. There is a set menu as well as an à la carte menu, which consists of seven starters and eight main courses. Dishes are adventurous, steering well clear of the norm, and include several vegetarian options: the quality is generally excellent. The extensive wine list includes many reasonably-priced bottles as well as some more special options. This is a great place to spend an evening and is secluded enough to work well for a date, but is also formal enough to make it a good business choice. Service is attentive but not insistent and you will never feel rushed here. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Superb Italian restaurant and deli |
539-541 Ecclesall Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8PR United Kingdom +44 114 268 6166 http://www.nonnas.co.uk/conten... |
Open the door of Nonna's and you could almost be in northern Italy: real Italian coffee, pasta, wine, olives, prosciutto, and even Italian newspapers are all available. A coffee bar, restaurant and deli are shoehorned into what used to be a butcher's shop: this means the restaurant is small and booking is essential, but it is well worth the effort. Real Italian food and the freshest ingredients are cooked to perfection. In all, Nonna's is a little gem—almost too good to share! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Top quality Michelin-starred restaurant |
Ridgeway (off B6388) Sheffield, South Yorkshire S12 3XW United Kingdom +44 114 247 5814 http://www.theoldvicarage.co.uk |
The Old Vicarage, a first class restaurant by any standards, currently holds a Michelin Star (the only restaurant with this honor in Sheffield) and two Egon Ronay Stars. The restaurant itself has an elegant, luxurious feel and service is extremely attentive. Expect to find cooking of the highest quality, integrating traditional and modern ingredients and techniques to create unusual and mouthwatering dishes, such as toasted goat's cheese with summer fruit chutney to start. Popular, innovative and excellent value |
220 Oakbrook Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 7ED United Kingdom +44 114 230 4819 |
You might easily miss this unusually-shaped restaurant - but that would be a tragedy! Housed upstairs in a seemingly nondescript building just round the corner from Nether Green Post Office, it features some of the most interesting and innovative cooking in South Yorkshire and has a justly excellent reputation in Sheffield. Try something unusual, like filo samosas with curried monkfish, or something traditional - such as braised lamb shank with root vegetables. Whichever route you take you will be pleasantly surprised by both taste and price - it won't cost much more than £25 per head for three courses. This is definitely not one to miss. Service is helpful but not intrusive and the décor is contemporary. The restaurant is popular with local couples as well as with small groups of professionals and business visitors. High quality modern bistro |
32-34 Sandygate Rd Crosspool Sheffield, South Yorkshire S10 4 DQ United Kingdom +44 114 266 6096 http://www.thymeforfood.co.uk/... |
This restaurant is very much a star attraction in Sheffield and should appeal to anyone who enjoys excellent food but is unsure what to eat. Although these two restaurants are owned and operated by Richard Smith, the adjacency does provide patrons to the building a feeling of variety. Artisan, the contemporary bistro, presents a casual stylish stmosphere serving up all the dishes you would expect from a café including Bangers and Mash, Beef Fillets, or Shepards Pie. Upstairs, patrons are greeted to a quaint, informal seafood restaurant with an array of fresh dishes from Chesapeake seafood chowder to a Spaghetti of langoustines. Both restaurants are open seven days a week. Review © 2007, Wcities |
