Sophisticated Italian restaurant |
Unit 8-10 Cambridge St Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 4HN United Kingdom +44 114 273 0073 http://www.askcentral.co.uk/ |
ASK Pasta and Pizza serves exactly what the name suggests, but in a rather superior way. This modern city centre restaurant is cool in the extreme, incorporating white walls, pale floors, and black wooden chairs, all of which provide sophisticated and spacious surroundings for a pleasant and relaxing meal. In this restaurant, you're made to feel comfortable whether you're with friends or on your own. Not surprisingly, there's lots of fresh pasta and pizza, but there are also options such as bruschetta with marinated tomatoes, red onions and basil - this is very good value given the quality of both food and surroundings. Small Italian restaurant |
119 Devonshire Street Sheffield, South Yorkshire S3 7SB United Kingdom +44 114 279 9394 |
This cosy, city centre-based Italian restaurant, which is decorated in the style of a traditional Italian bistro, with small tables, brightly coloured tablecloths and subdued lighting, offers a wide range of pizza, pasta and lasagne dishes (and more). Main meals cost around £9. The delicious ravioli dishes are particularly popular and the various lasagne meals are also recommended. This is an ideal place to come for a celebration or to start a night out and service is excellent. Customers can bring their own wine - but book in plenty of time, as BB's is extremely popular, especially at weekends. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fashionable but friendly |
The Old Fire Station, Division St Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 4GF United Kingdom +44 114 279 2900 |
One of Sheffield's most popular bars, this converted fire station is where the city's trendsetters hang out. Exposed brick walls, high ceilings, a lot of stainless steel, very bright colours and a number of sofas all add to the very fashionable effect. However, both atmosphere and service are friendly and relaxed and the music is not obtrusive. The bar is always busy at night, especially on weekends. A full menu offers snacks, finger food, wraps and sandwiches. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Well-established Continental style bistro |
150-154 Devonshire St Sheffield, South Yorkshire S3 7SG United Kingdom +44 114 249 0720 |
Originally Mr Kite's wine bar, this small restaurant has been popular in Sheffield for years. Attracting customers of all ages, especially families and couples, it has a friendly, Continental feel; tables spill out onto the pavement in warm weather and movie posters, old-fashioned signs and mirrors decorate the walls. The atmosphere is also very relaxed and service is leisurely. The restaurant is always busy, especially at night, when live bands sometimes play. The reasonably-priced menu includes options such as peppered chicken, swordfish steak, cheese and broccoli bake and a good range of pizzas. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Housed in the popular Forum Centre, this cafe attracts business people for breakfast and lunch and a louder 20-30 yrs of age crowd at night, when jazz, cocktail and house music events are organized. Long copper tables, high-backed iron chairs, a selection of framed, modern artwork and subdued lighting create a relaxed atmosphere. Separate menus are available for breakfast, lunch and the evening. Main meals are priced between £4 and £7. Options include a full English breakfast (a vegetarian option is also available), falafels with pita bread, couscous, yoghurt and salad (available from lunchtime) and nachos. Regular discounts mean that drinks such as house wine cocktail pitchers are usually very reasonably priced. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Italian restaurant with Mexican connections |
33 Carver Street Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 4FS United Kingdom +44 114 275 5264 |
La Gondola is a well-established Italian restaurant with a lovely relaxed atmosphere and a great reputation for good, simple cooking, and it is very popular within Sheffield. The usual range of Italian pasta and pizzas are available from £6 to £8, and a more unusual range of Mexican dishes - for instance a Mexican tortilla filled with beef, red beans and chilli - provide a variety of slightly more expensive options. House wine is very reasonably priced, and don't miss the specials boards - in all likelihood, the chef will be doing something interesting with mussels or other seasonal ingredients. The décor is bright and lighting subdued, which creates a relaxed atmosphere. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Sophisticated cafe-bar and Sheffield institution |
28 Cambridge St Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 4HP United Kingdom +44 114 275 2342 |
Although it is now a national chain, Henry's is a bit of a Sheffield institution. It opened in 1982 as one of the first "Henry's" in the country (and probably the first cafe-bar in Sheffield) and is still going strong. It occupies a corner site right in the city centre and is popular with both shoppers and business-people alike. Food is served all day: expect excellent coffee and tempting cakes, as well as a range of bottled beers and wines, or choose from the full menu (prices range from about £5), which includes a substantial all-day breakfast. Other options include some delicious starters (such as thai fish cakes) and a range of burgers and sandwiches. For something more special, try salmon fillet with sweet chili sauce. Atmospheric Greek restaurant |
117 Fitzwilliam St Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 4JP United Kingdom +44 114 272 6000 |
This very large Greek restaurant is based in the city centre, offering Greek and British dishes at reasonable prices. The moussaka is particularly delicious as are other Greek specialities. Though food is only served for two hours, the restaurant stays open into the early hours. Wine can be ordered and a bar serves excellent local bitters. The restaurant is popular with large groups, who enjoy the lively atmosphere which includes traditional plate smashing. Dancing and singing also take place around a small stage. Booking is advisable and can be arranged in person or by phone. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Elegant pizza parlour (and jazz club) |
124 Devonshire St Sheffield, South Yorkshire S3 7SF United Kingdom +44 114 275 2755 |
Stainless steel, light polished wood and white walls with blocks of vibrant colour all help to make this large, modern restaurant feel both stylish and relaxed. Tables are discreetly arranged and customers often seem to be discussing business or on a date, although the restaurant is popular with families in the early evenings. Good provision is also made for groups, which tend to be seated on the upper floor where possible. The wide range of freshly-baked Italian style pizzas (priced from about £6)includes pizza veneziana, with raisins and pine kernels, pizza alle nocci with gorgonzola, spinach and walnuts and the pizza fiorentina, a vegetarian alternative which includes spinach and a free range egg. A few pasta dishes are also available and the excellent sweet menu includes chocolate fudge cake and luxury ice-cream bombes. Live jazz is played on the upper floor approximately once a month (see the website for details). Booking is not usually available and this can mean that the bar area is crowded and that service sometimes feels rushed, but the impressive quality of the food invariably compensates for this. Fashionable and airy |
2-6 Cambridge St Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 4HP United Kingdom +44 114 275 8330 |
This is a spacious, modern bar with parquet floors, an upstairs balcony and comfortable armchairs. It is decorated in bold, simple colours and attracts a young, mostly professional crowd. Food, which is served from 11a until 9:30p, is freshly prepared and comes in large portions. The extensive menu includes snacks such as tomato, cheese and olive bruschetta, Thai chicken nachos and other delicious platters to share. Main courses, soup noodles and pastas are also available. RSVP stocks a good selection of bottled beers and cocktail jugs as well as Boddingtons and other draught beers. The bar can be hired for afternoon or evening celebrations and staff even go so far as to organize parties on request. Review © 2007, Wcities |
