Long-established reputation |
307 Ecclesall Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8NX United Kingdom +44 114 268 3029 |
The Ashoka, one of the longest established Indian restaurants in Sheffield, continues to enjoy a well-deserved reputation for good quality food at reasonable prices. It is situated in a busy part of town and because it's open late at weekends, it is a convenient place to stop off before or after a night out in the city centre. It attracts couples and small groups of all ages and is almost always busy on Friday and Saturday nights, especially with the younger crowd - so remember to book! Earlier in the evening and during the week, it is generally quieter and so ideal for that romantic date; it is small and quite intimate, although it's worth remembering that tables are placed relatively close together. The restaurant is fully licensed. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Large restaurant with excellent reputation |
Brincliffe Hill Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 9DF United Kingdom +44 114 255 3263 |
This restaurant, which is based in two large rooms with lots of seating space, has an excellent reputation in Sheffield, although it is usually only open at lunchtimes. It serves delicious meals from an impressive menu. (Options which are particularly good include the succulent chicken in white wine with vegetables.) Alcohol is available from two bars and wine can be ordered from the table. This is an ideal venue for a business lunch or celebration. It also hosts occasional theme nights for the public and is available to hire for private evening functions. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Small informal restaurant with excellent range and quality |
655 Ecclesall Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8PP United Kingdom +44 114 268 7356 |
This small, informal restaurant, which is decorated with traditional Indian fabrics in bright Rajasthani colours, has seating on two floors and an excellent menu, which offers the whole spectrum of chicken, lamb, prawn and vegetable curries and starters (including kebabs and purées). The side-dishes include four types of Nan bread and rice cooked in eight different ways - including with egg, garlic, and mushrooms. The quality of the food belies the very reasonable prices. Service is very friendly and attentive, and although the premises are unlicensed, guests may bring their own drinks without any corkage charge. The restaurant is situated on the busy Ecclesall Road and attracts local couples and small groups of all ages as well as students. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Late-opening restaurant/takeaway |
216 Fulwood Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S10 3BB United Kingdom +44 114 266 6655 |
Balti King has achieved near-legendary status in Sheffield in the last few years. It is especially popular with students and with groups, largely because it stays open until 3am six days a week, and is unquestionably Broomhill's premier post-pub venue. The atmosphere is relaxed and the décor is plush and comfortable, but what really makes the restaurant stand out is the astonishing variety of the menu. There are around 200 dishes (as well as a decent selection of Indian and European bottled beer) to choose from and there are some delicious options. On top of this, the free delivery service (within a three mile radius) is custom-designed for couch potatoes. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Smart but relaxing with impressive menu |
631-633 Ecclesall Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8PT United Kingdom +44 114 267 0565 http://www.caffeuno.co.uk/ |
Caffé Uno is part of a national chain with a deserved reputation for providing good quality food at reasonable prices. This outlet, near Hunter's Bar, provides customers with well presented, high quality Italian food such as spaghetti carbonara or pollo al rosmario (chicken with rosemary). This is a bright, modern restaurant with plenty of space and a mixed clientele. It is an excellent place to meet friends or business colleagues in the certainty that you are not going to be disappointed. It is equally good for coffee and snacks. Staff is cheerful and obliging and the restaurant is very child friendly; in fact, the attitude towards families is quite Italian. A small bar area is available for pre-dinner drinks. Cool, calm and collected, Sheffield's airy Café Rouge offers an ideal respite from the hustle and bustle of Ecclesall Road. Whether you want a three course meal or just a glass of wine, this attractive venue has what you need. Both food and service are impeccable and the prices are reasonable. The two course menu, which is available during the week from noon until 4p, offers particularly good value. The clientèle varies from business people to well-off students and the atmosphere is always laid-back. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Attractive restaurant overlooking Botanical Gardens |
Clarke House Rd Sheffield, South Yorkshire S10 2LN United Kingdom +44 114 268 7788 |
The original Curator's House in Sheffield's Botanical Gardens has recently been converted into a modern, attractive restaurant and tea room, which retain original features. In addition to the house itself, a large conservatory and terrace overlooking the gardens are now fully accessible to the restaurant's customers. During the day, expect to find tea, coffee and hot and cold snacks but in the evening, the menu is transformed. Try cannelloni of crab with bisque for starters, and fillet of beef with sautéd spinach and chanterelle for the main course. Prices are reasonable; main course options range from about £8 in the evening and a set menu charge covers two courses. There is an additional charge for desserts and coffee. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Wide range of teas and ice-creams, opposite Endcliffe Park |
1 Rustlings Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 7AA United Kingdom |
Although the name of this cafe draws attention to its impressive range of sorbets, ice-creams and sundaes, it is more than a gelateria. The cosy décor is English domestic and the staff show traditional Yorkshire friendliness. Customers are offered a wider choice of teas than of coffees and cups are refilled at no extra cost. Lunches include sandwiches (hot, cold and toasted), jacket potatoes and main meals such as omelettes, fish and chips or sausage and mash. There is also a separate children's menu. Full English breakfasts are available, including a vegetarian option with veggie burger and sausage. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Friendly Italian restaurant |
752 Chesterfield Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S8 0SE United Kingdom +44 114 250 7766 |
Kito's has had an excellent good reputation in Sheffield for over 10 years now - almost as long as it has been operational. The restaurant is simply decorated and furnished and there is nothing pretentious here, but expect to find a welcoming atmosphere and fresh, well-cooked ingredients. With a fishmonger next door, the fresh fish options are definitely worth a try! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Friendly, family-run restaurant |
438 Ecclesall Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8PX United Kingdom +44 114 266 5491 |
This friendly family-run restaurant on Ecclesall Road is a popular choice with Sheffield diners looking for good value Italian fare. The décor has a rich feel, with brick wall and dark red and gold fabrics. As well as pizza, the menu offers pasta dishes, and risotto as well as a good choice of beef, chicken veal and seafood appetizers and a lighter lunchtime menu. The restaurant has a full bar and its own wine list, but you are also welcome to bring your own wine from Sunday to Thursday. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Deservedly popular |
961 Ecclesall Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8TN United Kingdom +44 114 267 6161 |
This friendly local eatery is deservedly popular with local families and couples as well as business visitors and offers extremely good value for money. The menu is predictable Italian fare; pasta is available at reasonably priced and so are the pizzas. For something a little bit different, try chicken with parma ham. The restaurant is not licensed, but customers are welcome to bring their own wine. If you are feeling romantic, ask for the famous lucky table: half a dozen engagements are reputed to have started here! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Bistro-style restaurant specializing in seafood |
271 Sharrow Vale Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8ZF United Kingdom +44 114 266 1069 |
The Mediterranean is one of perhaps half a dozen Sheffield restaurants which have deservedly earned a regional, not just a local, reputation. It specializes in interesting fish dishes, although alternatives (including vegetarian options) are available. Although the theme is Mediterranean, the emphasis is on Spain and, if you don't want the full monty, this is one of the few places in South Yorkshire where you can find genuine tapas. The restaurant is intimate with subdued lighting, candles and a distinctly Spanish feel. Music plays softly throughout the evening. It is popular with couples and with locals of all ages, who often eat here in small groups. A typical meal might include a pan-fried quail salad starter followed by an unusual and delicious dish called zarazuella - a sort of Spanish fish stew. Most of the waiters are Spanish and service is attentive but also laid back: you will not feel rushed. This is a great place to relax and think about that next holiday in the sun! Formerly an upmarket wine bar/restaurant, Menzels has redirected its focus entirely to the bar. Boasting an "attitude code" instead of a dress code, Menzels strives to serve the best drinks and service in a sophisticated yet friendly atmosphere. Décor is complementary to this aim, contemporary classic yet inviting. Be sure to check their website for info about live music and bands of every genre as well as special events. Also available for corporate and private events and parties, the bar boasts a top of the line Bose sound system and a drop screen on which music videos, messages, even personal footage can be shown. Friendly casino and restaurant |
844 Ecclesall Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8TD United Kingdom +44 114 266 1115 |
This friendly casino and restaurant is situated on a busy road and ranges over two floors. A large eating area upstairs serves full meals which range from about £10. Typically, fish or meat dishes with vegetables are offered (and salmon is a popular choice). The casino is situated downstairs. Several gaming tables play simulataneously and a reasonable choice of games are available. A bar also serves a range of local beers, spirits and liqueurs. The clientele covers a broad spectrum across all age groups. The club has until recently seemed mainly male-based, but young couples and small groups of young women are now seen here more regularly. Membership is essential, but free. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Superb Italian restaurant and deli |
539-541 Ecclesall Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8PR United Kingdom +44 114 268 6166 http://www.nonnas.co.uk/conten... |
Open the door of Nonna's and you could almost be in northern Italy: real Italian coffee, pasta, wine, olives, prosciutto, and even Italian newspapers are all available. A coffee bar, restaurant and deli are shoehorned into what used to be a butcher's shop: this means the restaurant is small and booking is essential, but it is well worth the effort. Real Italian food and the freshest ingredients are cooked to perfection. In all, Nonna's is a little gem—almost too good to share! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Lively pub at city end of Ecclesall Road |
255 Ecclesall Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8NX United Kingdom +44 114 266 5922 |
This modern pub at the city end of Ecclesall Road has a large open plan drinking area with chunky wooden tables and plenty of standing space. A small seating area is also available outside. The clientele is mixed, but mainly comprises younger people (the age range is from about 18 to 30) and students, especially in the evenings. Draught beers include John Smith's, Theakston's, Guinness and a range of reasonably priced snacks and main courses are also available. The menu includes snacks such as filled Yorkshire puddings, or main meals (options include beef and ale pie and lasagne). This is a lively pub that can be crowded. A pool table and games machines are provided for the use of customers and a DJ plays on Wednesday and Saturday nights. The volume of music and TVs in this pub is usually loud. The atmosphere is welcoming - but don't expect a quiet night out! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Popular, innovative and excellent value |
220 Oakbrook Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 7ED United Kingdom +44 114 230 4819 |
You might easily miss this unusually-shaped restaurant - but that would be a tragedy! Housed upstairs in a seemingly nondescript building just round the corner from Nether Green Post Office, it features some of the most interesting and innovative cooking in South Yorkshire and has a justly excellent reputation in Sheffield. Try something unusual, like filo samosas with curried monkfish, or something traditional - such as braised lamb shank with root vegetables. Whichever route you take you will be pleasantly surprised by both taste and price - it won't cost much more than £25 per head for three courses. This is definitely not one to miss. Service is helpful but not intrusive and the décor is contemporary. The restaurant is popular with local couples as well as with small groups of professionals and business visitors. Intimate Italian Restaurant |
349 Ecclesall Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8PF United Kingdom +44 114 266 4168 |
Vittoria's is a small, intimate restaurant, where the feeling of intimacy is enhanced by the way that the room is divided into a number of individual bays: you can enjoy real privacy here. Helpful and friendly staff will ensure that you enjoy your meal. The atmosphere is informal: this is the sort of place where you will feel comfortable either on that intimate date or with a party of close friends. The menu includes a good range of pasta and pizza, and there are also more individual items such as Saltimbocca Romana (veal and parma ham, white wine and sage). The restaurant is licensed. The restaurant can be busy at weekends, when booking is advisable. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Very popular Italian restaurant |
371-373 Ecclesall Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8PF United Kingdom +44 114 267 0078 |
Santino's is so good it has expanded to take over the shop next door - and it still fills up quickly! This is definitely one restaurant where booking is advisable, particularly for mid-evening and weekend meals. White walls and murals create an almost Roman feel. The restaurant is owned and run by Italians and this shows in the menu, which runs far beyond pasta and pizza. You could start with a selection of cured meats served with marinated peppers (antipasto con pepperocino) and, for the main course, try vitello valdostana (scallops of veal cooked with mushrooms and white wine). Service is attentive but the atmosphere is laid back: this is a place to relax and enjoy your evening. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Friendly restaurant in popular suburb |
352 Sharrowvale Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8ZP United Kingdom +44 114 268 5150 |
This pleasant and relatively small Italian restaurant, located in a busy area of Sheffield, is open every evening and has a very relaxed atmosphere. It is popular for family gatherings, students dining with parents and convivial groups of all sorts. It hums with conversation and popular tunes from decades past almost from the minute it opens every night. The pale green papered walls are enlivened with paintings and posters of Italian resorts (which can prove very tempting if you're planning your next holiday) and the menu is based on a series of steak, chicken and fish dishes: there are some delicious options. There is also a varied wine list and bar. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Subtle Thai cuisine for discerning diners |

This is subtle Thai cuisine for discerning diners. Whether you want a romantic meal for two or an evening out with friends, you will feel comfortable here: couples and small groups of all ages make up most of the restaurant's clientele. Customers are seated at the bar downstairs (which is decorated entirely in white) for pre-dinner drinks when they first arrive and can choose from an extensive menu of subtly spiced meat, seafood and vegetarian dishes, which include Thai green, red and massaman curries with rice or noodles. The set menus from around £15 for a minimum of two people are excellent and allow you to sample some of this wonderful variety. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Traditional fish and chip shop and fishmongers, established 1885 |
249 Sharrowvale Road Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8PX United Kingdom +44 114 266 5694 http://www.sharrowvale.co.uk/t... |
Sample Britain's most well-known national delicacy (fish fried in batter and chips to take away) at this very traditional Yorkshire shop, which was established in 1895 and has been in business ever since. You will have to queue for your freshly cooked meal, but you can learn about the history of the business, the road and the local area from the detailed display on the wall while you wait. Fish is purchased fresh daily from ports around Scotland and the North of England and is available for you to buy and take home to cook as you wish: the range of fresh fish here is probably the most extensive in Sheffield. Sausages, pies and vegetarian snacks are also available. Review © 2007, Wcities |
