ASK Pizza and Pasta

Sophisticated Italian restaurant
Unit 8-10 Cambridge St
Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 4HN
United Kingdom
+44 114 273 0073
http://www.askcentral.co.uk/
ASK Pasta and Pizza serves exactly what the name suggests, but in a rather superior way. This modern city centre restaurant is cool in the extreme, incorporating white walls, pale floors, and black wooden chairs, all of which provide sophisticated and spacious surroundings for a pleasant and relaxing meal. In this restaurant, you're made to feel comfortable whether you're with friends or on your own. Not surprisingly, there's lots of fresh pasta and pizza, but there are also options such as bruschetta with marinated tomatoes, red onions and basil - this is very good value given the quality of both food and surroundings.

BB's Italian Restaurant

Small Italian restaurant
119 Devonshire Street
Sheffield, South Yorkshire S3 7SB
United Kingdom
+44 114 279 9394
This cosy, city centre-based Italian restaurant, which is decorated in the style of a traditional Italian bistro, with small tables, brightly coloured tablecloths and subdued lighting, offers a wide range of pizza, pasta and lasagne dishes (and more). Main meals cost around £9. The delicious ravioli dishes are particularly popular and the various lasagne meals are also recommended. This is an ideal place to come for a celebration or to start a night out and service is excellent. Customers can bring their own wine - but book in plenty of time, as BB's is extremely popular, especially at weekends.

Cafe Buon Cibo

129 Newbould Lane
Broomhill
Sheffield, South Yorkshire S10 2PL
United Kingdom
+44 114 266 9656
Floor-to-ceiling windows allow you to see exactly what Cafe Buon Cibo is all about even before you enter: it's small, with a simple, modern interior and is popular with young and old alike, though it's usually quite lively. The choice is extensive and is augmented by an ever-changing range of delicious specials on the blackboard. There's no charge for corkage and if you'd like to take alcohol with you, you'll find an off-licence conveniently situated directly opposite the restaurant. Broomhill can be reached from Sheffield city centre within a ten minute walk or three minute taxi ride.

Caffé Uno

Smart but relaxing with impressive menu
631-633 Ecclesall Road
Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8PT
United Kingdom
+44 114 267 0565
http://www.caffeuno.co.uk/
Caffé Uno is part of a national chain with a deserved reputation for providing good quality food at reasonable prices. This outlet, near Hunter's Bar, provides customers with well presented, high quality Italian food such as spaghetti carbonara or pollo al rosmario (chicken with rosemary). This is a bright, modern restaurant with plenty of space and a mixed clientele. It is an excellent place to meet friends or business colleagues in the certainty that you are not going to be disappointed. It is equally good for coffee and snacks. Staff is cheerful and obliging and the restaurant is very child friendly; in fact, the attitude towards families is quite Italian. A small bar area is available for pre-dinner drinks.

Franco's Pizzeria

Homely, family-run Italian
253 Crookes
Sheffield, South Yorkshire S10 1TF
United Kingdom
+44 114 266 5245
The walls of the small dining room in this family-run restaurant are adorned with postcards from satisfied regulars; the fact that there isn't much room left for more says a good deal about the quality of both food and service. Franco's serves impressive homestyle Italian cooking: pizzas, rich pancakes and pasta dishes (less if you want them as a half portion for a starter), while chicken and steak dishes in a variety of sauces. The eating area is cosy but space is tight, and with the most extensive ice cream menu you're ever likely to see waiting to tempt you, it'll be tighter still when you leave. No charge is made for own-bottle corkage.

Frankie and Benny's

Large Italian and American restaurant (bar included)
Valley Centertainment
Broughton Lane
Sheffield, South Yorkshire S9 2DX
United Kingdom
+44 114 256 1138
This large Italian and American restaurant, located in a busy entertainment area, also houses a bar. The restaurant is spacious and comfortable, with chunky wooden furniture and open-plan seating areas, which allow you to see your meal being prepared. A good range of Italian food such as pasta and pizza is available, as are American foods and desserts. This is an unusual but enjoyable combination and the menu includes some excellent options. Prices are very reasonable and a separate bar serves alcohol and a full range of other drinks, so that you can enjoy drinks before or after your meal. This restaurant is part of a national chain, but while it isn't the most adventurous or individual place to eat in Sheffield, the high standard of both food and service is consistent and reliable. A cinema, bowling lanes and trams are all situated within walking distance of this restaurant.

Gondola

Italian restaurant with Mexican connections
33 Carver Street
Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 4FS
United Kingdom
+44 114 275 5264
La Gondola is a well-established Italian restaurant with a lovely relaxed atmosphere and a great reputation for good, simple cooking, and it is very popular within Sheffield. The usual range of Italian pasta and pizzas are available from £6 to £8, and a more unusual range of Mexican dishes - for instance a Mexican tortilla filled with beef, red beans and chilli - provide a variety of slightly more expensive options. House wine is very reasonably priced, and don't miss the specials boards - in all likelihood, the chef will be doing something interesting with mussels or other seasonal ingredients. The décor is bright and lighting subdued, which creates a relaxed atmosphere.

K Pasa

Loud, lively Italian restaurant
290 Glossop Rd
Sheffield, South Yorkshire S10 2HS
United Kingdom
+44 114 272 8260
This large restaurant, which is Italian with Spanish and Mexican connections, is usually very busy, with plenty of atmosphere. The décor and lighting are bright and have traditional Italian bistro overtones; each table has candles and a decorative plastic tablecloth. Conversation tends to be quite loud and the background music is turned up to compete. The food isn't outstanding but it is perfectly reasonable and includes the usual range of pastas and pizzas at £5-£10, as well as some more unusual options, such as sardines in tomato sauce and Mexican fajitas. Eat here if you're with a crowd or if you've already had a few drinks on West Street - the restaurant is close to town and is open until midnight. Large groups are welcome - but don't expect a peaceful evening.

Kito's

Friendly Italian restaurant
752 Chesterfield Road
Sheffield, South Yorkshire S8 0SE
United Kingdom
+44 114 250 7766
Kito's has had an excellent good reputation in Sheffield for over 10 years now - almost as long as it has been operational. The restaurant is simply decorated and furnished and there is nothing pretentious here, but expect to find a welcoming atmosphere and fresh, well-cooked ingredients. With a fishmonger next door, the fresh fish options are definitely worth a try!

La Trattoria Romana

Friendly, family-run restaurant
438 Ecclesall Road
Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8PX
United Kingdom
+44 114 266 5491
This friendly family-run restaurant on Ecclesall Road is a popular choice with Sheffield diners looking for good value Italian fare. The décor has a rich feel, with brick wall and dark red and gold fabrics. As well as pizza, the menu offers pasta dishes, and risotto as well as a good choice of beef, chicken veal and seafood appetizers and a lighter lunchtime menu. The restaurant has a full bar and its own wine list, but you are also welcome to bring your own wine from Sunday to Thursday.

Luna

Deservedly popular
961 Ecclesall Road
Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8TN
United Kingdom
+44 114 267 6161
This friendly local eatery is deservedly popular with local families and couples as well as business visitors and offers extremely good value for money. The menu is predictable Italian fare; pasta is available at reasonably priced and so are the pizzas. For something a little bit different, try chicken with parma ham. The restaurant is not licensed, but customers are welcome to bring their own wine. If you are feeling romantic, ask for the famous lucky table: half a dozen engagements are reputed to have started here!

Luna Rossa

Quality Italian restaurant
234 Abbeydale Road
Sheffield, South Yorkshire S7 1FL
United Kingdom
+44 114 258 7664
Luna Rossa is a relatively recent addition to the Sheffield restaurant scene. Considering the amount of competition in Sheffield, any new Italian restaurant has to be good to survive - and Luna Rossa is. The menu demonstrates the basics of Italian cooking: good ingredients, simple techniques and bold flavours. There is pasta and pizza in abundance but if you look carefully you are certain to find something new and original. How about venison steak, Gorgonzola and spinach for instance? The restaurant has an informal atmosphere, is subtly decorated, and is popular with local couples.

Mama's and Leonie's

Intimate, friendly, Italian food
111-115 Norfolk Street
Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 2JE
United Kingdom
+44 114 272 0490
http://www.mamas.co.uk/
Established in 1968, this intimate Italian cafe/restaurant, which is based over two floors, has a rustic, slightly old-fashioned feel. Period posters decorate the walls and the tables are covered in bright decorative cloths. The restaurant is deservedly popular with theatre-goers (it is situated within a three minute walk of the Crucible and Lyceum theatres), local couples and families, so it is advisable to book in advance. The food, which is freshly prepared on the premises, more than lives up to its excellent reputation. The menu offers a wide range of home-made speciality pizzas and pastas. The speciality Della Casa offer includes pizza and soup or salad. A more adventurous "Extravaganzas" menu is also available, as is a range of salads, vegetarian options and a "Bambini" menu for under-12yrs. Also, don't forget to try the house wine.

Milano Restaurant

Classy and cutting-edge
Park Lodge
Sheffield, South Yorkshire S8 0LA
United Kingdom
+44 114 235 3080
Seemingly based on a fashionable London brasserie, you might forget that you're still in Sheffield once you step inside this classy, internationally-flavored restaurant, which feels spacious and is decorated in a modern, understated way, in subdued colors, with a good deal of space around tables. There is a set menu as well as an à la carte menu, which consists of seven starters and eight main courses. Dishes are adventurous, steering well clear of the norm, and include several vegetarian options: the quality is generally excellent. The extensive wine list includes many reasonably-priced bottles as well as some more special options. This is a great place to spend an evening and is secluded enough to work well for a date, but is also formal enough to make it a good business choice. Service is attentive but not insistent and you will never feel rushed here.

Nonna's

Superb Italian restaurant and deli
539-541 Ecclesall Road
Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8PR
United Kingdom
+44 114 268 6166
http://www.nonnas.co.uk/conten...
Open the door of Nonna's and you could almost be in northern Italy: real Italian coffee, pasta, wine, olives, prosciutto, and even Italian newspapers are all available. A coffee bar, restaurant and deli are shoehorned into what used to be a butcher's shop: this means the restaurant is small and booking is essential, but it is well worth the effort. Real Italian food and the freshest ingredients are cooked to perfection. In all, Nonna's is a little gem—almost too good to share!

Pavarotti's Italian Restaurant

Spacious with excellent food
186 London Road
Sheffield, South Yorkshire S2 6PG
United Kingdom
+44 114 255 1722
Eating Italian food in the heart of Sheffield might appear a little surreal but there are plenty of authentic Italian-owned restaurants about, and Pavarotti's is no exception; the quality of Italian cuisine here will make you feel as though you're sitting in the centre of Rome. The size of this cafe/restaurant is deceptive from the outside; the interior has two floors and is spacious. The main feature on the first floor is the semi-circular bar area, which allows diners to see the open-plan kitchen area, so they can watch food being freshly prepared. The menu offers everything you would expect of an Italian eatery and the rich aroma adds to this expectation from the moment you enter. Prices are very good and the portion sizes would not shame any Italian Mama.

Pizza Express

Elegant pizza parlour (and jazz club)
124 Devonshire St
Sheffield, South Yorkshire S3 7SF
United Kingdom
+44 114 275 2755
Stainless steel, light polished wood and white walls with blocks of vibrant colour all help to make this large, modern restaurant feel both stylish and relaxed. Tables are discreetly arranged and customers often seem to be discussing business or on a date, although the restaurant is popular with families in the early evenings. Good provision is also made for groups, which tend to be seated on the upper floor where possible. The wide range of freshly-baked Italian style pizzas (priced from about £6)includes pizza veneziana, with raisins and pine kernels, pizza alle nocci with gorgonzola, spinach and walnuts and the pizza fiorentina, a vegetarian alternative which includes spinach and a free range egg. A few pasta dishes are also available and the excellent sweet menu includes chocolate fudge cake and luxury ice-cream bombes. Live jazz is played on the upper floor approximately once a month (see the website for details). Booking is not usually available and this can mean that the bar area is crowded and that service sometimes feels rushed, but the impressive quality of the food invariably compensates for this.

Restaurant Vittoria

Intimate Italian Restaurant
349 Ecclesall Road
Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8PF
United Kingdom
+44 114 266 4168
Vittoria's is a small, intimate restaurant, where the feeling of intimacy is enhanced by the way that the room is divided into a number of individual bays: you can enjoy real privacy here. Helpful and friendly staff will ensure that you enjoy your meal. The atmosphere is informal: this is the sort of place where you will feel comfortable either on that intimate date or with a party of close friends. The menu includes a good range of pasta and pizza, and there are also more individual items such as Saltimbocca Romana (veal and parma ham, white wine and sage). The restaurant is licensed. The restaurant can be busy at weekends, when booking is advisable.

Rossi's

Superior Italian restaurant
3 Sharrow Lane
Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8AE
United Kingdom
+44 114 258 8164
The standard of both food and service in Rossi's is very high, but its most unusual feature is that it is housed in a former bank. This creates a great feeling of space - and eating between marble pillars certainly adds something special to the evening. You can choose from the usual range of pasta and pizzas and even this section of the menu makes you feel that what you are getting is the real thing. At the more expensive end of the menu, expect some interesting options, from about £14 per person, such as a casserole of fish and vegetables with saffron rice - a dish for two people to share. Service is excellent and as street parking is available outside, the doorman will even keep an eye on your car while you eat.

Santino's Ristorante Italiano

Very popular Italian restaurant
371-373 Ecclesall Road
Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8PF
United Kingdom
+44 114 267 0078
Santino's is so good it has expanded to take over the shop next door - and it still fills up quickly! This is definitely one restaurant where booking is advisable, particularly for mid-evening and weekend meals. White walls and murals create an almost Roman feel. The restaurant is owned and run by Italians and this shows in the menu, which runs far beyond pasta and pizza. You could start with a selection of cured meats served with marinated peppers (antipasto con pepperocino) and, for the main course, try vitello valdostana (scallops of veal cooked with mushrooms and white wine). Service is attentive but the atmosphere is laid back: this is a place to relax and enjoy your evening.

Terrazza

Friendly restaurant in popular suburb
352 Sharrowvale Road
Sheffield, South Yorkshire S11 8ZP
United Kingdom
+44 114 268 5150
This pleasant and relatively small Italian restaurant, located in a busy area of Sheffield, is open every evening and has a very relaxed atmosphere. It is popular for family gatherings, students dining with parents and convivial groups of all sorts. It hums with conversation and popular tunes from decades past almost from the minute it opens every night. The pale green papered walls are enlivened with paintings and posters of Italian resorts (which can prove very tempting if you're planning your next holiday) and the menu is based on a series of steak, chicken and fish dishes: there are some delicious options. There is also a varied wine list and bar.

Villa Caruso

Welcoming suburban Italian restaurant
52 Sandygate Road
Crosspool
Sheffield, South Yorkshire S10 5RY
United Kingdom
+44 114 266 9811
Villa Caruso occupies a typical semi-detached property at the top end of the shopping centre in Crosspool (a suburb accessible within a 5 to ten minute taxi ride from the city centre). The restaurant is small and isn't especially attractive from the outside, but inside, it is comfortable and has a warm, informal feel, due in large part to its inimitable staff, who always seem to have time to chat. The menu offers a typical selection of Italian dishes (such as pizzas, pasta and pancakes at £6-£7 or chicken and steak from £9). Villa Caruso is popular with families and local couples, who dine together in small groups and who invariably arrive with a generous supply of wine from the off-licence next door. Tables are placed quite close together and though this adds to the energetic, communal atmosphere, it does mean the restaurant isn't ideal for romantic meals or for private discussions. However, customers do tend to linger here and though service is attentive, you'll never feel rushed. There are occasional special menus and theme nights, which are usually well worth catching; these tend to be advertised within the restaurant itself, but you can also ring for further details.

Vito's Italian Restaurant

Taste extravaganza
284 South Road
Walkley
Sheffield, South Yorkshire S6 3TE
United Kingdom
+44 114 233 3574
Go Italian at Vito's and you are guaranteed a taste extravaganza. This restaurant, which is decorated in the style of an upmarket bistro, is a fish specialist but the full range of dishes you would expect of an authentic Italian restaurant are also served here. The menu offers eight varieties of fresh fish, but other favourites include venison, huge king prawns and fillet of pork in calvados. There is also a wealth of pasta dishes and pizza is available for those with a less adventurous palate. There is a large wine list from reasonable prices to wine so expensive you could take a mortgage out on it.
