Apart from having a good collection of contemporary and fine art, the gallery, which opened in 1899, has an interesting history and makes a distinctive architectural statement with its Moorish style. Carl Larsson was the first chairman of the gallery's art club. The saying 'Art lives long and life is short' is inscribed in Konstnärshuset.
