Bakfickan

Restaurant at the opera
Jakobs Torg 12, Operahuset
Kungsträdgården
Stockholm
Sweden
+46 (0)8 676 5809
This popular restaurant is the neighbor of the illustrious Operakällaren, situated near Jacob's Church. The performers at the Royal Opera throng here to savor the salmon delicacies. The place shares its kitchen with the Operabaren and the prices are quite affordable. House specialties are Beef Rydberg (thin-sliced tenderloin) and seasonal reindeer and elk delicacies. The bar is shaped like a horseshoe and is quite popular with the patrons.

Bistro Ruby

Generous portions
Österlånggatan 14
Stockholm 111 31
Sweden
+46 (0)8 20 5776
http://www.paristexas.se/
This is a romantic restaurant where you are served well-made food in candlelight. Formerly known as Bakfickan, this place has also shifted from France to Texas, in terms of both music and food. The spacious and pleasant surroundings are appropriate to the grilled meat and fish in different salsas that you'll find on the menu. The dishes are generous and well-made. On Saturdays you can have an American brunch with eggs Benedict, huevos rancheros and a Bloody Mary, while the sounds of Hank Williams, Flaco Jimenez and Big Mama Thornton waft from the loudspeakers.

Cliff Barnes

Losers Central
Norrtullsgatan 45
Stockholm 113 45
Sweden
+46 (0)8 31 8070
http://www.cliff.se/
info@cliff.se
When you feel that everything and everyone is against you, come to Cliff Barnes and propose a toast to the biggest loser in TV history, Cliff Barnes of Dallas fame. There are pictures on the walls of him losing all his money yet again to the ice-cold J R Ewing. The atmosphere is friendly and cheerful. The jokes come thick and fast; the whole menu is one big pun. This is a place for everyone, young or old, trendy or totally uncool. Be forewarned though, it can get quite boisterous here at night.

Friday's American Bar and Café

Thank Goodness it's Friday's
Kungsträdgården
Stockholm 111 47
Sweden
+46 8 10 0626
Kungsträdgården is a popular place filled with bars and nightlife. It becomes a spot for even more frenzied activity in summer, when the terrace areas are open. The premises that Friday's American Bar now occupies is notorious for having changed owners a number of times. It is an homage to TGI Friday's, but the focus is more on drinks than on food.

Glenn Miller Café

Authentic jazz bar
Brunnsgatan 21A
Stockholm 111 38
Sweden
+46 (0)8 10 0322
http://www.glennmillercafe.com/
Like an oasis in the middle of the city, between the bustling streets of Malmskillnadsgatan och Regeringsgatan, Glenn Miller Café has been a haven for jazz—lovers ever since. Without changing the style or altering the décor, this place has managed to stay popular for generations. On certain nights, live jazz is played by high—brow bands. Mostly, jazz lovers bring their own favourite jazz records to play on vinyl, of course. They would consider CD—players an insult. The venue is very small but extremely pleasant. The walls are covered with jazz photos and instruments. The food is mainly American. On the menu are burgers and steaks, but also more original and innovative crossover—style meals.

Peppar is a classic joint where they play nothing but rock. The décor portrays the New Mexican desert. Fake carcasses on the wall greet customers on a regular rocking night. Peppar plays the best rock music in all of Stockholm. The menu consists of food from New Orleans — tasty and reasonably priced. Beer is served in big glasses.

This is one of the most happening joints in Stockholm. Sjögräs (which translates as Sea Grass) is a modern restaurant that serves Californian food. The basement has a nice bar that boasts the largest rum collection in the city. The nights are really crowded and the dance floor is always buzzing with action. Each night has a different DJ performing to packed crowds. If you are on the dance floor, expect to see beer everywhere!

T.G.I. Friday's

American fare
Birger Jarlsgatan 16
Stockholm 114 34
Sweden
+46 (0)8 611 3131
http://www.tgifridays.com
Here, everyday is a Friday. You will see serious drinkers, families, and professionals here. The interiors are loud, and have been done up in a typical American decor with cowboy hats and movie posters. The menu includes good options in club sandwiches, hamburgers and steaks. The place occasionally puts up magic shows to entertain the children.

Texas Longhorn

Swanky bar
S:t Paulsgatan 4A
Stockholm 118 46
Sweden
+46 (0)8 5082 8508 (Tourist Centre)
At Longhorn the food is great, satisfying and not too hard on the pocketbook. A jug of beer or some margueritas should pair any meal successfully. The rough-mannered, Western/Tex-Mex ambiance, with bare bricks and wooden interiors, adds to the overall effect.
