Whenever some sort of sporting event is coming up, footballer Anders Limpar's Limp-Bar comes to life with special deals at the bar and on the menu. A pint of beer is found in every guest's hands and their eyes are clearly fixed onto the wide-screen TV. Simple, moderately priced lunches are served all the time, regardless of the sporting season, and the same applies for the After-Work menu. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Stylised luxury |
Upplandsgatan 17 Stockholm 113 60 Sweden +46 (0)8 30 4057 |
Zesty's décor is in itself worth a visit. The modern and stylised interior and furniture come from the exclusive design shop London W8. Guests are given Palm Pilots to place their orders, a novel and fun idea; no more waiting to catch the attention of waiting staff! Although the prices are high, so are their culinary ambitions, and the results are excellent. Altogether, everything adds up to an atmosphere of modern luxury—please dress accordingly. A couple of years ago, Birger Bar was redone in a metallic theme and was appropriately re-named Silver Bar. Recently, the bar returned to its former name, but retained the new décor. Blå Porten's serves excellent meals, but their forte lies in their tempting buffet which consist of baked products, such as cakes, biscuits and traditional shortbread. A stopover at this place is a good way to end a long walk at Djurgården. In the Karlaplan neighbourhood, there are surprisingly only a few restaurants that are worth a visit. The Cuckoo is one of them. It is a comfortable restaurant, with a bar. If you are lucky, the fluffy cushion seats next to the window will not be occupied. It's done up in a decor that is very common to New York restaurants. It's stylishly decorated, with its high ceiling and walls covered in black-and-white photos of movie stars. Everyone is welcome at the Cuckoo, including children and dogs. There is a separate bar menu with options, such as club sandwiches or hamburgers. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Brunnsgatan 21A Stockholm 111 38 Sweden +46 (0)8 10 0322 http://www.glennmillercafe.com/ |
Like an oasis in the middle of the city, between the bustling streets of Malmskillnadsgatan och Regeringsgatan, Glenn Miller Café has been a haven for jazz—lovers ever since. Without changing the style or altering the décor, this place has managed to stay popular for generations. On certain nights, live jazz is played by high—brow bands. Mostly, jazz lovers bring their own favourite jazz records to play on vinyl, of course. They would consider CD—players an insult. The venue is very small but extremely pleasant. The walls are covered with jazz photos and instruments. The food is mainly American. On the menu are burgers and steaks, but also more original and innovative crossover—style meals. Step into Grill and you instantly feel at home. Soothing drapes, lounge chairs and comfy sofas scattered around, only add to that feeling. The space, designed to resemble ten separate living rooms, has a classic gilt-framed mirror section adorned with pink-brocade, as well as a minimalist contemporary area done up in blue and cream. The food, from meat to bread, vegetables and fruit, is all grilled—either on charcoal, rotisserie, smoke, Korean-style table grill, or in a brick oven. Try the charcoal-grilled sirloin steak or lobster Côte d'Azur with rouille and salad. You may also be tempted to sample the smoked brisket of beef Gibson BBQ and the monkfish grill skewer. If you can hold another bite, try sharing one of their grilled desserts like the chocolate gâteau with banana icecream and passion fruit. Prices are relatively high, but no one's complaining; Grill's worth every krona you shell out. Review © 2007, Wcities |

In the long and always growing list of hotel restaurants designed by celebrity chefs, Matbaren ("The Food Bar") is the first to fuse gourmet Swedish cuisine with casual appeal. The restaurant is the brainchild of chef Mathias Dahlgren, who sought to contrast his more formal restaurant, Matsalen, with a place where people could feel at ease while being served the freshest and most inventive food available. Sitting pretty on the ground-floor of the Elite Hotel Stockholm Plaza, and having featured in the Gourmet magazine, this classy joint sees patrons from the cream of society sashaying in for a pleasant meal before heading over to the adjoining nightclub. The restaurant prides itself on its Oxtail Tortellini topped with creamy Mascarpone cheese, while patrons have other selections to rave about. Start with the hearty Melon Soup, served with chunks of Serrano ham; followed up with a crispy-fried herring in a thick potato purée. A main course of Duck Terrine and a sherry-drenched truffle polenta vies with the equally competent char in lobster juice. Leafy garnishes add the health factor to the dishes, only to be nullified by the sinful desserts and sorbets. Seasonal menus feature local specialties of sausages and puddings; make sure you get a bite of those! Review © 2007, Wcities |
