Blå Porten's serves excellent meals, but their forte lies in their tempting buffet which consist of baked products, such as cakes, biscuits and traditional shortbread. A stopover at this place is a good way to end a long walk at Djurgården. Digesting the food and the pastries won't be a problem, as you'll find art exhibits at Liljevalchs, just round the corner from here.

In the Karlaplan neighbourhood, there are surprisingly only a few restaurants that are worth a visit. The Cuckoo is one of them. It is a comfortable restaurant, with a bar. If you are lucky, the fluffy cushion seats next to the window will not be occupied. It's done up in a decor that is very common to New York restaurants. It's stylishly decorated, with its high ceiling and walls covered in black-and-white photos of movie stars. Everyone is welcome at the Cuckoo, including children and dogs. There is a separate bar menu with options, such as club sandwiches or hamburgers.

Like an oasis in the middle of the city, between the bustling streets of Malmskillnadsgatan och Regeringsgatan, Glenn Miller Café has been a haven for jazz—lovers ever since. Without changing the style or altering the décor, this place has managed to stay popular for generations. On certain nights, live jazz is played by high—brow bands. Mostly, jazz lovers bring their own favourite jazz records to play on vinyl, of course. They would consider CD—players an insult. The venue is very small but extremely pleasant. The walls are covered with jazz photos and instruments. The food is mainly American. On the menu are burgers and steaks, but also more original and innovative crossover—style meals.

Step into Grill and you instantly feel at home. Soothing drapes, lounge chairs and comfy sofas scattered around, only add to that feeling. The space, designed to resemble ten separate living rooms, has a classic gilt-framed mirror section adorned with pink-brocade, as well as a minimalist contemporary area done up in blue and cream. The food, from meat to bread, vegetables and fruit, is all grilled—either on charcoal, rotisserie, smoke, Korean-style table grill, or in a brick oven. Try the charcoal-grilled sirloin steak or lobster Côte d'Azur with rouille and salad. You may also be tempted to sample the smoked brisket of beef Gibson BBQ and the monkfish grill skewer. If you can hold another bite, try sharing one of their grilled desserts like the chocolate gâteau with banana icecream and passion fruit. Prices are relatively high, but no one's complaining; Grill's worth every krona you shell out.

In the long and always growing list of hotel restaurants designed by celebrity chefs, Matbaren ("The Food Bar") is the first to fuse gourmet Swedish cuisine with casual appeal. The restaurant is the brainchild of chef Mathias Dahlgren, who sought to contrast his more formal restaurant, Matsalen, with a place where people could feel at ease while being served the freshest and most inventive food available. Each day the kitchen produces a new menu of Swedish classics and international favorites, as well a different wine list to complement any dish. Mouth-watering cuisine, a relaxed ambience, and friendly service have earned Stockholms Matvarufabrik the reputation of being one of the most popular restaurants in the city. The French specialties, which include escargots served with garlic butter, and moules frites are delicious. Mostly frequented by families and young couples, this place is definitely worth a visit.

Stolen

Chair restaurant
Sibyllegatan 47
Stockholm 114 42
Sweden
+46 (0)8 663 9613
Initially when Stolen was opened, the idea was to ask all the guests to bring a chair of their own. Many guests did, but forgot to take them back. Consequently, there are a lot of chairs here. The old rule has been abolished and now this is just a good place for a quiet meal.

Storstad is always crowded. It was established by the same brothers who started Folkhemmet on the other side of town. Classier, more expensive and more elegant than Folkhemmet, Storstad's cuisine features mainly meat, fish and chicken. A bar menu is available. Drinks are mixed to perfection by professional bartenders. On Sundays, only the bar menu is served.

Systrarna Lundberg

Sister Act
Rörstrandsgatan 12
Stockholm 113 40
Sweden
+46 (0)8 30 5747
The Lundberg sisters are known for their good food and their generous helping! The portions of Mexican dishes, grilled burgers and lovely goat's cheese pies are generous, bordering on ridiculously huge. You can also choose soups or sandwiches, which come in smaller portions. The crowd generally flocks here for coffee and lunch.

Tip Top

A gay club with many faces
Sveavägen 57
Stockholm 113 83
Sweden
+46 (0)8 32 9800
Tip Top is one of the most flamboyant joints in Stockholm. It is a glittery bar, a spacious restaurant, a gay club and a rocking joint, all combined into one. The place is enveloped in smoke, filled with flashy lights and loud speakers. Food is mostly spicy Thai. It looks more like a nightclub than a restaurant though. The bar is well-stocked and has an impressive selection of wines and liqueurs. Each night hosts a theme night.

Tysta Mari is a well-known restaurant, excelling in the art of cooking seafood. With immediate access to the Östermalm Food Hall, where fresh fish is sold daily, this should come as no surprise. Classic dishes are presented with a modern touch. The décor is old-fashioned in brick and wood. The bar serves lunch and lighter meals in the evenings.

Vassa Eggen Restaurant

Elite dining destination
Birger Jarlsgatan 29
Stockholm 10395
Sweden

http://www.vassaeggen.com/
Sitting pretty on the ground-floor of the Elite Hotel Stockholm Plaza, and having featured in the Gourmet magazine, this classy joint sees patrons from the cream of society sashaying in for a pleasant meal before heading over to the adjoining nightclub. The restaurant prides itself on its Oxtail Tortellini topped with creamy Mascarpone cheese, while patrons have other selections to rave about. Start with the hearty Melon Soup, served with chunks of Serrano ham; followed up with a crispy-fried herring in a thick potato purée. A main course of Duck Terrine and a sherry-drenched truffle polenta vies with the equally competent char in lobster juice. Leafy garnishes add the health factor to the dishes, only to be nullified by the sinful desserts and sorbets. Seasonal menus feature local specialties of sausages and puddings; make sure you get a bite of those!

Window bar & matsal

Seafood with a difference
Norrlandsgatan 33
Stockholm 111 43
Sweden
+46 (0)8 22 4700
This restaurant is located just a stones throw away from Stureplan. Each dish costs the same and the servings are quite small. One dish is enough for an appetizer, two can serve as a main course and, if you are really hungry, one can order three dishes. The menu consists mainly of seafood. The establishment also has a pleasant bar for those who want to chill out a bit before hitting the clubs.

baguz

Hep joint
Norra Agnegatan 43
Stockholm 11229
Sweden

A charming European façade, dark wood interiors, leather-seat booths and elegantly-set tables provide a cozy ambiance at this restaurant. A good-looking wait staff makes the experience all the more pleasant. Hop over to the buzzing bar for a fruity cocktail, an exotic liquor or a refreshing punch. A fish-n-vegetable platter should satisfy a growling tummy; other marine options include meaty crustaceans and savory mollusks. Tasty preparations paired with a great drink amid good company make this a great dining venue!
