Generous portions |
Österlånggatan 14 Stockholm 111 31 +46 (0)8 20 5776 http://www.paristexas.se/ |
This is a romantic restaurant where you are served well-made food in candlelight. Formerly known as Bakfickan, this place has also shifted from France to Texas, in terms of both music and food. The spacious and pleasant surroundings are appropriate to the grilled meat and fish in different salsas that you'll find on the menu. The dishes are generous and well-made. On Saturdays you can have an American brunch with eggs Benedict, huevos rancheros and a Bloody Mary, while the sounds of Hank Williams, Flaco Jimenez and Big Mama Thornton waft from the loudspeakers. Brännvin is a Swedish liquor, also known as aquavit, and this restaurant by the same name, offers some 40 varieties of it. However, it is not just the drink that draws the crowds; the food is equally tempting with lovely Swedish appetizers, main courses and desserts. Brännvin also offers seasonal menus plus the "County Menu", which helps you select your food according to your preference. And if all this does not attract you, the waterfront view of the Strömmen Canal will change your mind for sure. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Västerlånggatan 18 Stockholm 111 29 +46 (0)8 20 2590 |
In the Old Town, there are many cafés located in historical buildings. This is one such traditional café, occupying two floors. Be sure to visit the old dark stone vault on the lower floor. Gråmunken, which means "the Grey Monk", was what the Cistercian and Franciscan monks were familiarly known as. This café has live jazz several nights a week. Coffee, tea, soft drinks, cakes and sandwiches are served. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This cafe is located in the middle of Gamla Stan (the Old Town), among the cobblestones and the narrow alleys. You'll find many candles lit up inside and the home-baked cinnamon rolls you get here are really tasty. It's perfect for a romantic date. Located in an old stone vault, a lot of wood and stone have been used for the cafe's décor. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Caffelini is a small Italian espresso bar located at the center of the Old Town. Despite the limited area, there is enough room for one to enjoy their coffee, especially with an eclectic range to choose from. The ice espresso is a favourite and Focaccias, an Italian speciality, is also served here. Caffelini is frequently visited by a lot of people who prefer eating alone. Review © 2007, Wcities |
Licensed café |
Stora nygatan 46 Gamla stan Stockholm 111 27 +46 (0)810 1534 |
Café Tabac in the Old Town is almost always crowded, whether you come here for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The room is nice and light due to the lovely large windows, but the café is often quite filled with smoke. The style is French, and Tabac works well as both a bar and a café. Coffee, tea, wine and beer are the favourite drinks to go with snacks such as various kinds of sandwiches, pies and toasted sandwiches. The place is quite popular with tourists during the spring and summer when they put out tables and chairs on the pavement outside. Review © 2007, Wcities |

In the Old Town |
Kornhamstorg 51 Stockholm 11127 +46 (0)8 20 9945 |
The logo of this eatery mocks the foot-friendly brand Scholl. It is a hip, small place with very few tables. In the evening the tables are removed from sight completely and the focus shifts to the bar. The international clientele varies greatly, but since the joint is in the Old Town, quite a few tourists show up. There are delicious tapas on the bar menu. On the regular menu there are pastas and wok meals. Review © 2007, Wcities |
Swedish cuisine |

With many of the specialities featuring outstanding Swedish cuisine, Leijontornet's menu is also inspiried by influences from Asia, North America, and other parts of Europe. The food is chosen with care and the presentation is impeccable explaining the high prices. Drop in for a glass of wine and some delicious vegetarian dishes, should meat not suit your fancy. Although, the local favorite Swedish Duck Liver is highly recommended. You will also find hints of seafood with a unique Scandinavian twist. Situated in the heart of Stockholm, this makes an excellent choice for those looking for an exquisite meal. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The country's oldest brewery |
Tullhus 2 Skeppsbrokajen Stockholm +46 08 20 2095 http://www.pontusfrithiof.com bythesea@pontusfrithiof.com |
Located in an old customs house facing the waterfront, this pub has a view of the archipelago and the ferries scurrying among the islands. The decoration in this brewery, one of the oldest in Sweden, includes lots of wood and prints of sailing ships. The coppers of the brewery itself form the centrepiece of the room surrounded by a huge island bar. For beer, meals and snacks with a great view, this is not to be missed. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Pizza can be gourmet food! |
Odengatan 79-81 Stockholm 111 30 +46 (0)8 32 0122 http://primociaociao.com/ |
If you doubt that pizza could be gourmet food, you have not visited the two Ciao—Ciao restaurants. Primo Ciao—Ciao is probably the more exclusive one of the two, but the pizzas are nonetheless the best reason to come here. If you prefer to eat something else, the menu offers a variety of modern Italian dishes. Review © 2007, Wcities |
Fine meals |
Västerlånggatan 52 Stockholm 11129 +46 (0)8 20 2512 |
It is one of the finest Italian restaurants in Stockholm, and is situated along Västerlånggatan, a street thronged by tourists. The elegant interior and well-stocked bar gives the place a calm and pleasant ambience. The food portions are quite liberal. You can choose a three-course meal from the à la carte menu, or order salads and warm sandwiches from the bar menu. The place also has a deli and a take-away service. Review © 2007, Wcities |
Palatial meals |
Tegelbacken 2 Stockholm 11152 +46 (0)8 10 0310 http://www.seikoen.se/ |
The first of its kind in the country, this Japanese restaurant is all about traditional flavors in a changing world. Located on the Central Palace, overlooking a tranquil waterfront, the restaurant is every bit as posh on the inside as it appears from the façade. Expect the most outlandish preparations of octopus and squid, alongside the ubiquitous noodle, sushi, sashimi and tempura. Of course, no meal is complete without the traditional sake, though beers, champagne and wines give an international twist to the menu. Ice-creams, sorbets and truffles make up dessert, but the house specials are a must-try. The staff serves up these preparations with the usual Japanese politesse that warrants some brownie points. Home-brewed Weissbier |
Skeppsbron 44 Stockholm 111 30 +46 (0)8 411 8330 http://www.zumfranziskaner.se/ |
Here you find Bratwurst and rumpsteak amongst Swedish dishes like herring and hash of fried diced meat with onions and potatoes. The restaurant is extraordinarily beautiful, designed in Jugend style. Pleasant German music is piped through the speakers, and friendly waitresses take good care of the guests. Amongst the lovely beers, Franziskaner, the restaurant's own Weissbier, is recommended.
