Stylised luxury |
Upplandsgatan 17 Stockholm 113 60 +46 (0)8 30 4057 |
Zesty's décor is in itself worth a visit. The modern and stylised interior and furniture come from the exclusive design shop London W8. Guests are given Palm Pilots to place their orders, a novel and fun idea; no more waiting to catch the attention of waiting staff! Although the prices are high, so are their culinary ambitions, and the results are excellent. Altogether, everything adds up to an atmosphere of modern luxury—please dress accordingly. For a peaceful evening |
Bergsgatan 17 Stockholm 112 28 +46 (0)8 652 3004 |
Choose from the several small rooms at Il Caffe Gli Angelini to enjoy your coffee in. The ambience is nice and calm and the coffee just delicious. The location is peaceful, on the outskirts of the town centre. Plonk yourself on a comfortable armchair and try a delicacy or two from the varied Italian menu. Review © 2007, Wcities |
It's all about food! |
Pontonjärgatan 28 Stockholm 11222 +46 (0)8 654 9030 http://www.chakula.se/ info@chakula.se |
The restaurant couldn't have a better name—Chakula means "food" in Swahili. Partake of delicious African cuisine—an African Passion cocktail with hot samosas for starters and grilled red snapper in a spicy sauce with Cape Malay Curry for mains, among other, equally mouth-watering options. A fruit pudding with a steaming mug of cappuccino adds the finishing touch. While the food entices the taste-buds and fills the belly, the prices don't burn too big a hole in the wallet. It's no wonder the joint is favored by one and all! Review © 2007, Wcities |
Italian delights |
Alströmergatan 45 Stockholm 112 47 +46 (0)8 650 6310 |
La Famiglia is among the top Italian restaurants in Stockholm, and still going strong. A very important guest at the restaurant was the famous singer Frank Sinatra. The menu has true classics, such as oven-baked mussels, good calf's liver, and, of course, a decent range of pasta dishes. It's the best place to enjoy an evening with your family. Drinks and jazz |
Kungsgatan 63 Stockholm 111 22 +46 (0)8 5348 2960 http://www.fasching.se/ info@fasching.se |
It is not so much the food, which is mostly traditional Swedish dishes, but the atmosphere and history that everyone comes to soak up here. This legendary restaurant/club/bar has been around for three generations. Jazz is its trademark, and the whole range, from traditional jazz to soul and acid jazz, can be enjoyed here. Have dinner before the show; that way you do not have to pay the entrance fee and are guaranteed a place in the evening's performance. The place also organises weekly After Work Jazz sessions from 7pm. The admission is free. In the evenings, it turns into a hip club with a different theme every night. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Drottningholmsvägen 22 Stockholm 112 42 +46 (0)8 653 0140 |
This tiny place next to Fridhemsplan was established in 1979, and has become famous for its delicious homemade Italian ice cream. Apart from the icy delights, the restaurant also serves espresso, paninis and other Italian food. Keep your eyes open because you could easily walk by and miss this place; the room is absolutely minimal. All the same, its ice cream is said to be the best in town. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Accident in a bathtub |
S:t Eriksgatan 15 Stockholm 112 39 +46 (0)8 651 4515 |
Hemma hos Julia is best known for their homemade, fresh cheese. This started as an experiment at someone's home, in the bathtub. Nowadays, the cheese is sold in lovely little boxes in several delis all over town, as well as at this café. Julia serves light meals, such as salads, sandwiches, soups, and sweet delights like brownies and carrot cake, to go with your coffee. There are wooden tables and chairs, and the place seems very welcoming. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Snail bar |
Scheelegatan 8 Stockholm 112 23 +46 (0)8 53 0577 |
L'Escargot, also known as Snigeln (the Snail), is located just at the corner of Scheelegatan and Bergsgatan. The restaurant lived through the 1980s, but was redecorated in the late 1990s and became more of a bar than a restaurant. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Scheelegatan 3 Stockholm 112 23 +46 (0)8 653 5390 http://www.tapas.nu/ |
Mamas and Tapas has been around for a while, having opened as the first tapas bar in Stockholm. This is a very small place and quickly gets crowded. The atmosphere is lively, so it doesn't matter if you have to wait a while at the bar for a table. Review © 2007, Wcities |
Early openings |
Essinge Brogata 1 Stockholm 112 61 +46 (0)8 656 9274 |
Mattina is a café on two floors located on Lilla Essingen—a part of town said to be the country's most densely populated island. Sitting at the lower level gives one an interesting view because you are then "beneath" the bridge leading over the water to Kungsholmen. Café Mattina's greatest draw is its early opening hours, which means many of the locals can have their breakfast here before going to work. Review © 2007, Wcities |
Muffins galore |
Fridhemsgatan 3 Stockholm 112 40 +46 (0)8 651 8800 |
It's difficult to choose because all the muffins look really tempting. You'll find a whole range of these saccharine sweet somethings stacked on the racks. The lot changes every day. Try the Chocolate Muffins with Cream Cheese Fillings or Apple and Cinnamon flavours. The Muffins with Zucchini and Feta Cheese are also worth a try. Couple that with a Smoothie, which comes in several fruity flavours. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Designer restaurant with unusual rooms |
Fridhemsgatan 17 Stockholm 112 40 +46 (0)8 653 2790 http://www.niva22.se/ info@niva22.se |
It is hard to imagine that these super-designed rooms used to house public lavatories. As the name indicates, the restaurant is located underground, but it is easy to find from the Fridhemsplan subway entrance just opposite. The food has distinctive Italian influences but there is always room for other ideas and sources of inspiration. As a result, the menu changes frequently. Review © 2007, Wcities |
Lunch on an island |
Primusgatan 116 Lilla Essingen Stockholm 11267 +46 (0)8 619 0190 (Reservations) http://www.luxstockholm.se/ info@luxstockholm.se |
The restaurant is situated on one of the most populated residential islands in the country. Sitting at a table within this charming, historic building, patrons are treated to some awesome views of the waterfront. Its delicious concoctions of contemporary Swiss food have earned it a star in the Guide Michelin, in addition to glowing recommendations from regular diners and first-timers alike. Dig into fresh, leafy salads, slurp your way through hot soups and savor the delicious fish, chicken, lamb and pork entrees, before moving on to a calorie-laden dessert. Ice-creams, chunky pieces of chocolate, sodas, lager and sorbets are on offer too, and the seasonal list gets pepped up in summer, with a special tasting menu coming to the fore. Don't forget to grab a few lumps of cheese on your way out. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Warm like home |
John Ericssonsgatan 6 Stockholm 11222 +46 (0)8 650 3028 http://www.salzer.nu/ info@salzer.se |
The 1950s décor of this restaurant creates a unique atmosphere and is one of the key elements that draw people to this venue. Delicious Swedish and international fare is served in this warm setting. If you are a tourist, try one of the traditional dishes, like the popular isterband served with potatoes in a cream sauce. And while waiting for your meal to arrive, step up to the bar to treat your taste buds to the local Lundbergs lager beer. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Lebanese cuisine |
Norra Agnegatan 39 Stockholm 11229 +46 (0)8 650 2500 http://www.tabbouli.lunchinfo.... |
If you are here on a whim, make sure you order the house specialty—meze. Potatoes, chickpeas, yoghurt, cheese, beans, nuts and veggies act as fillings and garnishes for these delectable dishes. Alternatively, one could treat the palate to a plethora of well-grilled meats, to the accompaniment of a tall glass of sparkles from the wine list. The house salads are a must-have, soaked in delectable dressings. A sorbet is all you will have space for in the end, but do try to fit in the Baklava, a traditional sweetbread. The buffet option is great value for money; expect to unload some more dough if you prefer the tried-and-true three-course meal. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Thelins is a traditional café, which has not changed its look for years. The place is pleasant and has a mixed clientele. The room is large, which is why it is perfect for groups of business people. And in the afternoons, many senior citizens come here for a traditional coffee and cake. Coffee, cake, sandwiches, and lunch are served. Review © 2007, Wcities |
Hep joint |
Norra Agnegatan 43 Stockholm 11229 +46 (0)8 653 6990 http://www.baguz.se/ |
A charming European façade, dark wood interiors, leather-seat booths and elegantly-set tables provide a cozy ambiance at this restaurant. A good-looking wait staff makes the experience all the more pleasant. Hop over to the buzzing bar for a fruity cocktail, an exotic liquor or a refreshing punch. A fish-n-vegetable platter should satisfy a growling tummy; other marine options include meaty crustaceans and savory mollusks. Tasty preparations paired with a great drink amid good company make this a great dining venue! Review © 2007, Wcities |
