Some coffee and conversation |
Sveavägen 98 Stockholm 113 50 Sweden +46 (0)8 15 7445 |
This is a good place for coffee or lunch in spite of its location on a busy street. The furnishings are simple, with light pine, metal and white paint. The seating area is quite spacious. Coffee, tea, fresh juice, pies and salads are served here. There are also lots of different international magazines for your perusal. Or you could sit by the window and watch the world rush by. By the way, the name refers to the area's postal code. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Whenever some sort of sporting event is coming up, footballer Anders Limpar's Limp-Bar comes to life with special deals at the bar and on the menu. A pint of beer is found in every guest's hands and their eyes are clearly fixed onto the wide-screen TV. Simple, moderately priced lunches are served all the time, regardless of the sporting season, and the same applies for the After-Work menu. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Zesty's décor is in itself worth a visit. The modern and stylised interior and furniture come from the exclusive design shop London W8. Guests are given Palm Pilots to place their orders, a novel and fun idea; no more waiting to catch the attention of waiting staff! Although the prices are high, so are their culinary ambitions, and the results are excellent. Altogether, everything adds up to an atmosphere of modern luxury—please dress accordingly. There aren't too many Lebanese restaurants around Stockholm. The ambience is soothing, with warm, hazy lamps and a beautiful indoor waterfall. Bright colored cloths give this place an exotic look. Eastern tradition suggests that many small dishes called 'Meze' form a larger plate. As portions in the main course are large, feel free to adapt the Meze Method. The cafe is unique in its selection of music, which has elements of oriental, balearic and lounge music. To sum it up, the place has a great feel to it and the food is delicious. Like an oasis in the middle of the city, between the bustling streets of Malmskillnadsgatan och Regeringsgatan, Glenn Miller Café has been a haven for jazz—lovers ever since. Without changing the style or altering the décor, this place has managed to stay popular for generations. On certain nights, live jazz is played by high—brow bands. Mostly, jazz lovers bring their own favourite jazz records to play on vinyl, of course. They would consider CD—players an insult. The venue is very small but extremely pleasant. The walls are covered with jazz photos and instruments. The food is mainly American. On the menu are burgers and steaks, but also more original and innovative crossover—style meals. Step into Grill and you instantly feel at home. Soothing drapes, lounge chairs and comfy sofas scattered around, only add to that feeling. The space, designed to resemble ten separate living rooms, has a classic gilt-framed mirror section adorned with pink-brocade, as well as a minimalist contemporary area done up in blue and cream. The food, from meat to bread, vegetables and fruit, is all grilled—either on charcoal, rotisserie, smoke, Korean-style table grill, or in a brick oven. Try the charcoal-grilled sirloin steak or lobster Côte d'Azur with rouille and salad. You may also be tempted to sample the smoked brisket of beef Gibson BBQ and the monkfish grill skewer. If you can hold another bite, try sharing one of their grilled desserts like the chocolate gâteau with banana icecream and passion fruit. Prices are relatively high, but no one's complaining; Grill's worth every krona you shell out. Review © 2007, Wcities |

La Habana is a Cuban paradise in the middle of Stockholm. This is the perfect place to get away from the winter cold. There are hot dishes, even hotter rhythms and fat cigars to help find your grove. The décor is rustic and well—planned. It feels like Havana before the revolution, all in Art Deco style. La Habana has become a popular place, although there are unfortunately not many Latinos among the guests. Most customers are office-goers. One floor below, there is a rum bar where Cuban music is played and you let yourself on the dancefloor. Dine in a former pharmacy |
Tulegatan 24 Stockholm 113 48 Sweden +46 (0)8 612 6550 |
This restaurant was once a pharmacy. Swedish pharmacies are named after animals, and Mården, which means marten (a kind of weasel) is one of them, hence the name and the little bronze marten on the façade. The interiors have an air of nostalgia blended with modern art and sea green walls. The menu offers traditional Swedish cuisine, as well as modern Continental food. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This nightclub holds a legendary status in Stockholm. One of the most happening joints of the 50s, it maintains the ambience of its original glory days. This is the jazzy and glitzy place where you can swing your hips to the live band and really let go. The food is good but is nothing compared to the rhythms played. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Don't be put off by the garish, tacky look of this restaurant from the street. Once inside, you will discover that the interiors are sober and quite pleasant. Stylish restaurant in a central location |
Grevturegatan 30 Stockholm 11438 Sweden +46 (0)8 5458 2400 http://www.nox.se/ info@nox.se |
This bi-level establishment has a pretty decor and makes effective use of crystal chandeliers and laminated glass on the walls. The food is Swedish-French and the clientele includes international tourists. The wait staff is knowledgeable, efficient and helpful—you will require their help to make your choices. The in-house bar offers a wide variety of wines, cocktails and champagne. The restaurant accommodates up to 65 persons and can get crowded easily. The garden space is fascinating, with people lazing around in tents and on big armchairs. On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, the DJs play an eclectic mix of music. It is tough to describe why you should come here for a night of fun, so just hop in and find out yourself! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Swedish and Japanese Combo |
Karlavägen 15 B Stockholm 114 31 Sweden +46 (0)8 611 1903 |
This is a modern Japanese restaurant with a Swedish touch. The idea is to combine Swedish and Japanese food—miso with lingon berries for example—and the result is surprisingly successful. The modern décor is minimalist and elegant, just like the food. Glass and light-coloured wood are the main elements in the décor. Review © 2007, Wcities |

One of the restaurants in Stockholm privileged with a star in the Guide Michelin, Operakällaren is also a classic among gourmet restaurants. Chef Stefano Catenacci has a state-of-the-art kitchen at his disposal, along with astoundingly competent staff. Modern, traditional dishes dominate the menu. The main room is open daily from 6p-10p, whereas the Operabar and Bakfickan (slightly less ambitious but highly recommended menus) keep more generous hours listed below. Reservations are recommended for the main room, but not for the other two. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Stop by for a quick bite and enjoy the spectacular view from Café Panorama, which is located on the top floor of Kulturhuset. Gaze upon the the bustling city of Stockholm—the place is closed for dinner, however, so the view can be appreciated only during the day. Per Olsson (Swedish equivalent to 'Old MacDonald') wants stressed-out, urban youngsters to unwind. He wants to bring the flavour of the countryside to Stockholm. The Italian Gastronomic Association has given Capri the right to call itself a Ristorante Italiano. This is a very romantic restaurant, similar to the one in Disney's version of The Lady and the Tramp. The restaurant has grotto-like walls and the food is served on classic red and white tablecloths. Strandvägen 9 Stockholm 11456 Sweden +46 (0)8 663 8183 http://www.paulochnorbert.se/ restaurang.paul.norbert@telia.com |
Experience true gourmet cuisine at this charming little restaurant in the city. The 32-seat eatery is especially suitable for small celebration meals. German Chef Norbert Lang conjures up exciting preparations by adding a French twist to fresh Swedish ingredients. Recommendations include the scrumptious Lobster Bisque, which comes along with a mélange of other, daintily-dressed seafood and crunchy veggies on a big platter. Those who cannot do without their dose of meat can sample some rare presentations of reindeer and moose, or game birds. A big mug of Joseph Drouhin Chablis '93 should wash things down nicely. Desserts are worth digging into— the chocolate cake and lemon mousse are most popular— but the restaurant's healthy fruit sorbets are preferred by regulars. Watch that wallet though; it has an uncanny way of getting depleted here! Review © 2007, Wcities |

The first of its kind in the country, this Japanese restaurant is all about traditional flavors in a changing world. Located on the Central Palace, overlooking a tranquil waterfront, the restaurant is every bit as posh on the inside as it appears from the façade. Expect the most outlandish preparations of octopus and squid, alongside the ubiquitous noodle, sushi, sashimi and tempura. Of course, no meal is complete without the traditional sake, though beers, champagne and wines give an international twist to the menu. Sitting pretty on the ground-floor of the Elite Hotel Stockholm Plaza, and having featured in the Gourmet magazine, this classy joint sees patrons from the cream of society sashaying in for a pleasant meal before heading over to the adjoining nightclub. The restaurant prides itself on its Oxtail Tortellini topped with creamy Mascarpone cheese, while patrons have other selections to rave about. Start with the hearty Melon Soup, served with chunks of Serrano ham; followed up with a crispy-fried herring in a thick potato purée. A main course of Duck Terrine and a sherry-drenched truffle polenta vies with the equally competent char in lobster juice. Leafy garnishes add the health factor to the dishes, only to be nullified by the sinful desserts and sorbets.
