Nice cafe teeming with locals

This cafe boasts of excellent service and a friendly atmosphere. The decor reminds one of the the 1950s, given the James Dean posters on the walls. A regular café menu is offered, with brunch on Sundays. The area in which it is located, Eastern Södermalm used to be a calm area with a limited number of dining and drinking places. However, now there are coffee shops and restaurants all over the neighborhood and this cafe is among the better bets.

Big Ben

A noisy night out
Folkungagatan 97
Stockholm 116 30
Sweden
+46 (0)8 641 4044
http://www.bigben.nu/
Big Ben tries to be a true blue British bar. It's the home pub of Hammarby's fans, and a common meeting place before a big match. A high decibel sound is assured at all times but it can get plain intolerable when there is a live match on. The first floor is decorated in true pub style while the second is more like a relaxing lounge.

On a quaint corner in Södermalm, you will find the Black & Brown Inn with its comfortable interior. The pub has been creating a British pub experience to its loyal patrons for years. Black Horse Inn

Cosy pub, miscellaneous patrons
Bondegatan 50
Stockholm, Svealand
Sweden
+1 46 08 64 31 616
Hosting a crowd of down-on-their-luck poets, young twenty-somethings, and worn out young parents, you will find one of the best pubs in in the city. A great place for out-of-work romantics to hang out with locals and drink and smoke their lives away while waiting for the end of the world. With a selective and unusual list of beers on tap and not much in terms of hard liquor or food, this is a true pub's pub. With terrible wallpaper, a short bar, and dirty stools to sit on, this is a funky Bohemian joint.

Bröderna Olsson may look simple and ordinary, but this place is really unique. It adheres to a garlic—only culinary philosophy and every one of their dishes, desserts, drinks, even coffee, contains garlic. The incredibly—large Tapas are recommended only for those who don't mind the calories. The basement transforms into a club on some nights. Head out there after a few garlic shots.

Café Anno is part of the old Hotel Anno, which dates back to 1647. The menu is classic and everything else is as well. This is a perfect place to go to if you are tired of visiting all the young and trendy concept cafés. The interior is beautiful and the tables are prettily covered with white tablecloths. The drawback is that the larger room only opens up for everyone after the hotel guests have finished their breakfast.

Ah, Carmen is legendary! She is the very definition of a tavern, with inexpensive food, cheap drinks and an atmosphere that encourages conversation. She may not be a beauty from the outside, being a little rough and a little tacky, but Carmen is a real pearl. Soda, located at Södermalm, is mostly frequented by the students from the local high school, and is perhaps the only cafe that allows smoking. The menu offers coffee, sandwiches, cakes, Elvis jelly, and peanut butter. After dark, Soda becomes a full service bar, and after mignight, Soda becomes a nightclub—complete with DJ.

String

For long stays
Nytorgsgatan 38
Stockholm 116 40
Sweden

String offers you everything from pie to furniture to tea cups and sandwiches. The prices are more than reasonable and the atmosphere relaxed, which invites you to stay much longer than you intended. Especially recommended are the weekend breakfast buffets and the children's matinees on Sundays. Although String is spacious, it gets busy and crowded. Chairs are placed wherever there is room, even in the windows!

Söderhof

Great for breakfast
Tjärhovsgatan 1
Stockholm 116 21
Sweden
+46 (0)8 641 1791
Söderhof, which opens quite early in the mornings on weekdays, serves a proper breakfast for working professionals including dishes like porridge. On the downside, the space of this joint is very less and its furnishings are plain. Yet the café is nice and cosy and the price of the food is quite reasonable.

Söders hjärta

After work bar
Bellmansgatan 22B
Stockholm 118 47
Sweden
+46 8 640 1462
This bar is located behind the church of St Paul, around the corner from Mariatorget. The clientele is often visited by moody youngsters dressed in black but its regulars are people who want an after-work drink. There is a restaurant section, but the bar is the main attraction. There are several pinball machines here but they can get crowded quite soon and you may have to wait for long to play.

Tevere Bageriet

Trendy Surroundings
Skånegatan 81
Stockholm 116 35
Sweden

Delicious pizzas first made Tevere popular. They are still excellent, but these days many use the place as a regular coffee bar. Coffee, espresso, tea, café au lait, juice, pizzas, soft drinks and sandwiches are served here. It is extremely popular, especially during summer when the area around it is buzzing with the young and the restless. If you can't find yourself a seat, feel free to take your cup and sit in the park.

Texas Longhorn

Swanky bar
S:t Paulsgatan 4A
Stockholm 118 46
Sweden
+46 (0)8 5082 8508 (Tourist Centre)
At Longhorn the food is great, satisfying and not too hard on the pocketbook. A jug of beer or some margueritas should pair any meal successfully. The rough-mannered, Western/Tex-Mex ambiance, with bare bricks and wooden interiors, adds to the overall effect.

This large beer hall, reminiscent of an old-fashioned colourful circus, has a carefree and friendly ambience. Because this is one of the few places that stay open until late, it is always packed with party animals. In addition to snacks, main course is also served. If you just want some innocent fun, pinball machines are installed everywhere. Or else, head to Starbar, which is located on the same premises.

Tri Indier, a small Indian restaurant, serves wonderfully-spicy dishes and is well-worth a visit. Not only are their prices reasonable, but the servings are also rather generous. Try their Fried Saffron Rice, which is the most popular dish on the menu. After dinner, you could head to the bar Sjunde Himlen or "Seventh Heaven", which is located just round the corner.

WC Bar & Diner

Popular neigbhorhood spot
Skånegatan 51
Stockholm 116 37
Sweden
+46 (0)8 644 1981
A neighborhood tavern that enjoys a higher degree of popularity than its competitors; this might just be the hippest bar in Sundsvall. The service at this pub is ambitious and attentive. Their specialty drink is the Raspberry Mojito, and although their cocktail list is short, all of the cocktails are made with finesse. When you visit the WC Bar & Diner, don't be intimidated by the two burly bouncers at the door to this tiny bar, because when you are in Stockholm this is definitely the place you will want to bounce in to.

Zucchero Café och Catering

Pleasant Italian café

Stockholm 116 29
Sweden

Zucchero, an Italian café and lunch place, is one of many such joints located at the eastern part of Södermalm. However, the decor and the menu make it stand apart from the other. The interior comprise a chequered floor, red lighting and old film posters on the walls. The cappuccino, espresso, focaccia, salads and other Italian specialities served here are a big draw. The ambience is warm and inviting. So come here to experience Italian food and the warmth of the patrons too.
