Some coffee and conversation |
Sveavägen 98 Stockholm 113 50 +46 (0)8 15 7445 |
This is a good place for coffee or lunch in spite of its location on a busy street. The furnishings are simple, with light pine, metal and white paint. The seating area is quite spacious. Coffee, tea, fresh juice, pies and salads are served here. There are also lots of different international magazines for your perusal. Or you could sit by the window and watch the world rush by. By the way, the name refers to the area's postal code. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Whenever some sort of sporting event is coming up, footballer Anders Limpar's Limp-Bar comes to life with special deals at the bar and on the menu. A pint of beer is found in every guest's hands and their eyes are clearly fixed onto the wide-screen TV. Simple, moderately priced lunches are served all the time, regardless of the sporting season, and the same applies for the After-Work menu. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Zesty's décor is in itself worth a visit. The modern and stylised interior and furniture come from the exclusive design shop London W8. Guests are given Palm Pilots to place their orders, a novel and fun idea; no more waiting to catch the attention of waiting staff! Although the prices are high, so are their culinary ambitions, and the results are excellent. Altogether, everything adds up to an atmosphere of modern luxury—please dress accordingly. The jolly Scotsman |
Rörstrandsgatan 21 Stockholm 113 40 +46 (0)8 31 1855 |
This is one of many English pubs in town, but the Bagpiper's Inn never seems to lose its old world charm. Between its next-door neighbours the Boomerang Hotel and The Bald Eagle, Bagpiper's is always the busiest place. The inside is done up in a Scottish theme. You can try a large selection of beer and have the pleasure of being served by kilt—clad male waiters. The clientele consists of people of all kinds — young and old, people in jeans and suits, both sober and drunk. A lot of people drop in for a quick drink after work. The menu consists of the standard pub selection, with burgers and fish and chips. Servings are large, and worth the money. Here you can also treat yourself to the classic bacon—and—egg brunch on Sundays. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This is one of the many cafés and lunch places in the area around Odenplan. Bellisimo does not seem to be based on any particular concept, but the food here is nice and fresh in general. The joint serves various lunch dishes, such as lasagna and salads and has a regular coffee menu. Eating here is a nice way to prove that simple food need not be tasteless or unimpressive. When you feel that everything and everyone is against you, come to Cliff Barnes and propose a toast to the biggest loser in TV history, Cliff Barnes of Dallas fame. There are pictures on the walls of him losing all his money yet again to the ice-cold J R Ewing. The atmosphere is friendly and cheerful. The jokes come thick and fast; the whole menu is one big pun. Step into Grill and you instantly feel at home. Soothing drapes, lounge chairs and comfy sofas scattered around, only add to that feeling. The space, designed to resemble ten separate living rooms, has a classic gilt-framed mirror section adorned with pink-brocade, as well as a minimalist contemporary area done up in blue and cream. The food, from meat to bread, vegetables and fruit, is all grilled—either on charcoal, rotisserie, smoke, Korean-style table grill, or in a brick oven. Try the charcoal-grilled sirloin steak or lobster Côte d'Azur with rouille and salad. You may also be tempted to sample the smoked brisket of beef Gibson BBQ and the monkfish grill skewer. If you can hold another bite, try sharing one of their grilled desserts like the chocolate gâteau with banana icecream and passion fruit. Prices are relatively high, but no one's complaining; Grill's worth every krona you shell out. Review © 2007, Wcities |
Little Cuba in Stockholm |

La Habana is a Cuban paradise in the middle of Stockholm. This is the perfect place to get away from the winter cold. There are hot dishes, even hotter rhythms and fat cigars to help find your grove. The décor is rustic and well—planned. It feels like Havana before the revolution, all in Art Deco style. La Habana has become a popular place, although there are unfortunately not many Latinos among the guests. Most customers are office-goers. One floor below, there is a rum bar where Cuban music is played and you let yourself on the dancefloor. The food will not let you down, and nothing has been overlooked in making this a out—and—out Cuban joint: cigars, drinks and even beer are imported from Cuba. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Ritorno, located close to Odenplan, is a café where time seems to have genuinely stood still. The décor is classic and the mood is relaxed. You have to pay for your cup of coffee at the entrance after which the friendly lady behind the counter directs you to the table, where you make your own cup. Apart from cofee, the classic café also offers tea, cakes and sandwiches. The room is large and suitable for groups of friends hanging here. This is one of the finest restaurants in Stockholm. The walls are decorated with Malaysian and Indonesian items, such as shadow puppets and musical instruments, and the abundance of plants and flowers create a tropical atmosphere. The food is traditional Malaysian fare—rich coconut sauces, a variety of curries, vegetable dishes, Satay with peanut sauce, and Roti Canai (a flat bread eaten with curry). Non-residents looking for a taste of home will get much more than they expect at this restaurant, aptly-named "Little Pakistan". Fresh fruit and veggie soups, rice dishes loaded with nuts and a host of Indian specialties, such as Prawn Chaat, Dahi Ghost, Nimboo Piaza Chicken and Machi Ran Barangi line the menu. Nan, raita (yogurt with veggies) and salads make up the accompaniments, and the meal can be ended with the Mosmi Dessert—a chef's specialty that promises to be delightful. Sveavägen 57 Stockholm 113 83 +46 (0)8 32 9800 |
Tip Top is one of the most flamboyant joints in Stockholm. It is a glittery bar, a spacious restaurant, a gay club and a rocking joint, all combined into one. The place is enveloped in smoke, filled with flashy lights and loud speakers. Food is mostly spicy Thai. It looks more like a nightclub than a restaurant though. The bar is well-stocked and has an impressive selection of wines and liqueurs. Each night hosts a theme night. Review © 2007, Wcities |
Smoked salmon and sandwiches |
Karlbergsvägen 14 Stockholm 113 27 +46 (0)8 5272 8100 / +46 (0)8 5272 8104 http://www.tranan.se tranan@tranan.se |
This is one of the most popular eating joints in Stockholm. The tables are decked with red-and-white checkered linen, and are almost always occupied. On the menu you will find a balanced combination of herring, duck and lamb dishes. The food is served in small portions but is surprisingly quite filling. The smoked sausages and the club sandwich are popular with the locals. However, the most famous items on the menu are the Entrecôte with Béarnaise sauce and the huge Beef Rydberg. Three-in-one |
Vanadisplan 1 Stockholm 113 31 +46 (0)8 33 4500 http://www.vanadis.se mail@vanadis.se |
Vanadis is a restaurant/bar/café located at Vasastan, which is a little further away from Vanadisplan. At a short distance is Palace Hotel, whose guests frequently stop in for breakfast on their way into town, or come in for dinner or drink after a hard day of shopping and sight-seeing. Vanadis opens early in the morning, and shuts late at night. The interior is simple, yet modern and pleasant. The menu consists of classic dishes with crossover influences. Review © 2007, Wcities |
French cuisine |
Dalagatan 46 Stockholm 113 24 +46 (0)8 32 3440 http://www.wasahof.se/ wasahof@chello.se |
This is one of the most exquisite French restaurants in Stockholm. The menu has a variety from French and Swedish cuisine. The place has a well-stacked wine cellar, and waiters make excellent recommendations. The prices are a bit high, but the experience is real value-for-money. Review © 2007, Wcities |
