Buy a red scarf and wear it to the BGF Red Scarf Day to warm the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS. At this event, hosted by the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation, Australia's longest serving HIV/AIDS charity, people turn up wearing red scarfs and have a picnic together at an outdoor venue. In case it rains, the alternative venue is the organiser's office. The red scarf symbolises an extension of the red ribbon concept, wherein patients were supported emotionally. Supporters of the event are requested to buy red scarfs from the web site.

Darling Harbour Jazz Festival

The biggest event on Sydney's Jazz calendar is the Manly International Jazz Festival, but Darling Harbour's three-day event is by no means small. It is standing room only on the forecourt each Queen's Birthday long weekend, when thousands of jazz fans get into the groove. With performances from household names like James Morrison and Vince Jones, this is a mostly-mainstream jazz festival, in a stunning open-air location on the shores of Sydney Harbour. Most events are free.
