If you're a cricket or rugby fan, this is a MUST visit for you. The Aussie Stadium, formally known as the Sydney Football Stadium, has been a witness to Australia's sporting history. Be it cricket, rugby league, rugby union, soccer, baseball or cycling – this grand stadium has hosted it all. With a capacity of 42,000, it has even played host to musical concerts as well as operas. The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Michael Jackson, Madonna, and U2 are a few of the greats who have performed on these grounds. From the city to the beach |
Park Street and College Street (start line) Hyde Park Sydney, NSW 2000 Australia +61 2 9224 2742 http://city2surf.sunherald.com... |
When the starter's gun goes off, 50,000 runners head for Bondi Beach on this 14 kilometre fun run. Runners are split into three groups: the serious professionals, the semi-serious who actually train for the event, and the "back of the pack" walkers and on-the-day entrants. Despite the crowds of fellow runners and some killer hills, the run takes a scenic route from College Street in the CBD through the leafy eastern suburbs and is something of a Sydney institution. Entry fee: TBA. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A day at the races |
Sydney Harbour Sydney, NSW 2000 Australia +61 (0)2 8248 6500 |
It sounds bizarre--ferries decked-out in lavish fancy dress, to say nothing of their champagne-imbibed passengers--but the Ferrython has become an absolute institution in Sydney. Every Australia Day ferries compete in this race, with other harbour craft also making a splashy appearance. Line honours are not important; elaborate decorations and a good laugh are. You can watch the Ferrython from the usual harbour-side vantage points: Circular Quay, The Rocks, Mrs Macquarie's Chair, Milsons Point and McMahons Point. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Annual Kite Festival |
Bondi Beach (Bondi) Sydney, NSW 2026 Australia +61 2 9130 3325 http://www.aks.org.au/ |
The annual Festival of the Winds sees Bondi's brilliant blue sky filled with kites in a rainbow-colored spectrum of shapes and sizes. Creations such as giant cartoon characters, airborne buildings and flying trains compete with more traditional kites, including sleek racing models built for high-altitude speed and precision ground control. Professional kite-fliers from all over the world (China is one of the best-represented nations) join in with locals and send their kites soaring. See their website for further details. Grand Final Fever |
Olympic Boulevard (Telstra Stadium) Sydney, NSW 2140 Australia +61 2 8765 2000 http://www.nrl.com.au/ |
By the time the final eight series rolls around, Sydney has well and truly had its footy fix for the year. But there is something about grand final fever that re-ignites the spark all over again. If you are lucky enough to get a ticket for the match, expect a night of emotion and excitement. If not, pubs across town screen the match on the big screen, so grab a beverage and place a bet on the TAB if you think you have a hunch on the winner. Review © 2007, Wcities |

First interstate team |
Sydney Cricket Ground, Driver Avenue Moore Park Sydney, NSW 2021 Australia +61 (0)2 9339 9123 http://www.sydneyswans.com.au |
The Swans were involved in the first step of transforming the Victorian Football League (VFL) into the Australian Football League (AFL) back in 1982. It was then that the cash strapped South Melbourne Football Club decided its options lay north of the Victorian border in Australia's biggest city. Although the club languished in the doldrums for several years, the turnaround came in 1996, when Tony Lockett, the gargantuan goal kicker from St Kilda, joined the team. Review © 2007, Wcities |
