16-32 Oxford Street, Shop 1 Darlinghurst Sydney, NSW 2010 Australia +61 2 9331 4161 |
Internet On Oxford is a themed cyber cafe--and the theme in question varies from week to week. Depending on when you visit you could encounter jazz, disco, hip or trip hop, swing or techno. Like many of Sydney's inner city cyber hangouts, this venue is popular with backpackers, but, due to its cool factor, also has a big following with locals, especially the local gay community. There is no food available, but you can get drinks here--everything from Coke to Powerade. Review © 2007, Wcities |

High quality English antiques |
118 Queen Street Woollahra Sydney, NSW 2025 Australia +61 (0)2 9363 2211 |
Located in the upmarket, Queens Court complex, Janet Niven has long attracted attention for her beautiful window displays and specialist knowledge. This shop focuses mainly upon the 18th and 19th century English period, and carries small collectible antiques, miniatures, silhouettes, samplers, needlework pictures, shawls and other textiles, porcelain, and Georgian and country furniture. The range of English blue and white transfer-ware and Staffordshire figures are also greatly admired. This is a favoured destination among collectors, museum curators and buyers in search of that special gift that will not be found elsewhere. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Beautiful fabrics and comfortable women's wear |
20a William Street Paddington Sydney, NSW 2021 Australia +61 2 9361 0586 |
This shop sells beautiful, affordable, feminine frocks and fabrics. Every now and then (more often now), a girl needs flowery, pretty, floaty clothes for drifting around a summer garden, having a casual dinner or just relaxing in. This light, bright and airy store is full of great girlie wear. The racks are full of well-priced, hand printed, Australian made garments. Many of the designs have a touch of the hippie-flowergirl; fantastic for all shapes and sizes. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Works on paper |
34 Paddington Street Paddington Sydney, NSW 2021 Australia +61 2 9332 1840 |
One of Sydney's most colourful art identities, Josef Lebovic has specialised in prints, drawings, photographs and other works on paper since 1977. He also mounts regular exhibitions and produces high quality catalogues. This is where you go to acquire a vintage Australian photograph or prints by local artists such as Norman and Lionel Lindsay, Sydney Long and Thea Proctor. Moreover, the gallery carries an eclectic range of non-Australian material including Old Master drawings, European prints and turn of the century advertising posters. Lebovics enthusiasm for his chosen field is highly infectious as well. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Liquor emporium |
137 Bondi Road Bondi Sydney, NSW 2026 Australia +61 (0)2 9389 6422 http://www.kemenys.com.au |
It is called a supermarket, but everyone who knows Kemeny's (and that is pretty much everyone) is aware that this is a liquor mart, and a good one. Great prices on top-shelf and mid-shelf spirits, Australian and imported wines, and boutique and not-so-boutique beers. There is a supermarket section, stocking Hungarian salamis, spices and cakes, but the grog is the reason to brave the Bondi Road traffic. Friendly staff are always on hand to help you find what you want. Review © 2007, Wcities |

God save the King |
209b Coogee Bay Road Coogee Sydney, NSW 2034 Australia +61 (0)2 9665 5588 |
If you had to nominate an Australian national dish, it would probably be the meat pie. Like those other quintessentially Australian icons (football, kangaroos and Holden cars), the meat pie has a way of evoking the patriot in all of us. King Wally's Pies have a bit of history to them too; they were one of the early winners of the Great Aussie Meat Pie competition at the Royal Easter Show. Made from light, flaky pastry and rich, hearty fillings, favorites like steak and mushroom, and shepherd's with peas and cheese sell like hotcakes. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Kite Power Australia has built up a strong, local clientele for its unique range of toys as well as its enthusiasm and service. The shop also specializes in professional and amateur juggling equipment, and sponsors a Monday evening club devoted to this craft. It has the largest range of kites on display throughout Australia and runs free courses in power-kiting and kite-surfing, usually held at Brighton Beach. 112a Burton Street Darlinghurst Sydney, NSW 2010 Australia +61 (0)2 9380 5509 |
This interesting shop stocks garments for men and women from the 1940s right through to the 70s. Trading since 1975 both locals and tourists delight in the clothes that their grandparents used to wear. Increasingly fashionable, this type of second hand clothing is proving harder and harder to find. Fabrics range from leather to polyester and even plastic. There is also a wonderful range of accessories to choose from including shoes, jewelery, luggage and baggage. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Gateaux galore |
255 Glenmore Road Paddington Sydney, NSW 2021 Australia +61 2 9331 1070 http://www.lagerbedor.net |
This wonderful French patisserie looks right at home in the narrow Parisian-style streets of Five Ways, Paddington. And it is no surprise that Sydney's French community flocks here to savour the delights of old-fashioned recipe baguettes, wholemeal country loaves, light, buttery croissants and baked-to-perfection brioches. Authentic and delicious, try avoiding the light, creamy gateaux at your peril and you will be missing out on a treat. Everything is freshly baked so you can be sure of flaky pastry and soft bread.
