Balmain Saturday Market

Alternative style market with organic produce
217-223 Darling Street
Balmain
Sydney, NSW 2041
Australia
+61 (0)2 9555 1791
Set in the shady grounds of St Andrews Church, the stalls mirror the eclectic and arty local inhabitants. There is a good selection for general gift buying, browsing and second hand goods. This is not the place for up and coming dress designers, but there is a wonderful selection of old cocktail dresses, shoes and hats. Also good jewelery, including antiques, interesting home wares and expensive organic fruit and vegetables is accessible. Watch out around Christmas because it gets busy and crowded. Wander up to the church when you are hungry and peruse the united nations of food stands inside.

Bondi Junction Sunday Markets

Upmarket second hand goods
Oxford Street Mall
Bondi Junction
Sydney, NSW 2022
Australia

These markets have been running since 1993, organised by two local Rotary Clubs who donate their profits to local and international causes.

Tucked away at the end of Oxford Street in a large pedestrian shopping mall, the markets stock a variety of goods, from collectibles, retail clothing, jewellery, sunglasses and furniture, to plants and homemade arts and craftwork.

Friendly, family atmosphere with buskers performing in the street, a good children's playground, and lots of cafes, shops and restaurants nearby.

Bundeena is a petit village located just outside the CBD of Sydney. This market is put up at the Horderns Reserve next to the Bundeena Ferry Wharf on the first Sunday of every month. Locals from Sydney and tourists from all over gather and rummage through the traditional handicrafts, jewelry, souvenirs, clothes, and more. The village is very close to the seaside, so once you are done with your shopping, you can head to the beach, where the food stalls are awaiting you. And FYI, all the proceeds are forwarded to the RSL Welfare and Benevolent Fund, so you will be shopping for a good cause!

Alternative lifestyles market
Glebe Public School, Glebe Point Road
Glebe
Sydney, NSW 2037
Australia
+61 (0)2 4237 7499
A lively, alternative style market in inner city Glebe. Bargaining, scavenging, eating and watching entertainment is all encouraged by the laid back stallholders. Catering to locals, students and visitors, it is popular for a bargain, particularly second hand clothes and fashion styles which last for two days. There are also young fashion designers on show, books, records, junk, yummy health food, alternative therapists, buskers and lots of wind chimes! It does get quite crowded and hot in summer, so it is good to go early.

This market began life in 1998, during "Good Living Food Month", sponsored by The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper. Such was the success, it is grown to around 60 stalls and has become a regular feature down by the harbour on the first Saturday of each month. Farmers come from all over the State and you must be either a grower or producer to sell your wares here. There is a mouth watering selection of tasty treats to eat on site at tables, or stock up for later; farmhouse cheeses, corn-fed chickens, organic fruit and vegetables, meat and sourdough bread.

Paddington Bazaar

Sydney's best-known market
2 Newcombe Street
Paddington
Sydney, NSW 2021
Australia
+61 (0)2 9331 2646
This market, in the grounds of a church and school, began life in 1972 as a place for hippies to display their wares for sale. Since its humble beginning, it has grown to encompass over 250 stalls. A stroll around on a Saturday is as much as social event as a place to hunt for bargains and the unusual. You will find everything from antiques and jewellery, to ceramics and clothes. There are also some tempting food stalls. Be prepared for the crowds, the market gets very busy and parking is not easy in the surrounding streets.

Paddy's Markets are Sydney's oldest markets. They have been through quite a series of upheavals in past years, relocating a few times. Now they are back in their traditional home, in the Haymarket. The markets operate Thursday to Sunday and for extended periods during summer holidays. Veggies, fruit and flowers take up one side, and the rest of the stalls are an eclectic mix of clothing, electrical goods, cheap souvenirs, jewellery, pets, fish, leather goods and home wares.

Rozelle Markets

A big garage sale
Rozelle Public School, Darling Street
Rozelle
Sydney, NSW 2039
Australia
+61 (0)2 9818 5373
This is one of Sydney's favourite second hand markets, with over 100 stalls set around the pretty grounds of historic Rozelle School. Garage sale stalls are a speciality and collectors regularly find treasures amongst other people's trash. Nobody will go hungry, either, with the wide selection of international food stalls for breakfast and lunch, set around a comfortable sit-down area. Of particular interest to music collectors are several stalls with LP record collections. Also some stalls with new goods. Good spot for backpackers to outfit their homes and themselves cheaply!

This mind-boggling, 41-hectare site, next to the Olympic complex, is Australia's major center for the marketing of fresh fruit, veggies and flowers and turns over around AUD1.6 billion a year. It is home to the wholesale flower market, growers market and produce market (wholesale), as well as the Fresh Food Market, Swap and Sell Market and Paddy's - Flemington (retail). It is like a little city housed inside giant warehouses, with a shopping center, banks, travel agent, supermarket, news agency, a pub and a cafe.

Weather permitting, each Sunday, a limited number of stall holders set up in the wide forecourt, in front of one of Sydney's biggest tourist attractions.

This is an ideal opportunity to buy some locally made goods as well as enjoy the spectacular views of the harbour. On offer are quality arts, crafts, glassware and jewellery. These items make fabulous souvenirs or gifts. When you are shopped out, there are plenty of cafes nearby for a refreshing "pick me up".
