Sydney's crowning glory |
100 Market St Sydney, NSW 2000 Australia +61 (0)2 9231 1000 |
Far above the maddening crowds, AMP Tower (or Centrepoint, as it is called by locals) has 360 degrees of Sydney's best views. It takes just 40 seconds for the double-decker lifts to reach the 304-metre summit, where you can take advantage of free guided tours. Or, for a real treat, dine out on the view, in the a la carte or buffet-style revolving restaurants. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Famous Sydney beach |
Bondi Beach Sydney, NSW Australia +61 2 9130 5311 (Bondi Visitors Information Centre) |
A trip to Sydney is not complete without seeing this stunning landmark, with its surfers and lifeguards who patrol the beach every day of the week between the yellow and red flags. Bondi beach, roughly a kilometer long, is enclosed at the north and south ends by headlands. Take a stroll along the promenade and check out the pavement life —rollerbladers, dogs with attitude and the coolest dudes around. There are numerous cafes and restaurants, as well as hostels, hotels, shops and even a small golf course. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Coastal path between beaches |
Start from Bondi Icebergs Club Notts Avenue, Bondi Beach Sydney, NSW Australia +61 2 9130 5311 (Bondi Visitors Information Centre) |
Drag yourself away from the surf to experience this stunning cliff walk. Beginning at the Southern end of Bondi Beach, follow the steep path upwards and along the cliffs. The spectacular coastline stretches four kilometres in an easy walk (there are some steps) following the shoreline and giving some breathtaking ocean views. The concrete pathway leads first to Tamarama Beach, and then onto Bronte Beach. If you are really keen, you can continue on past Waverley Cemetery, to Clovelly and Coogee, popular family beaches. Or simply catch a 380 bus back to the city. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Highlights include Sydney Aquarium, the Australian National Maritime Museum, Sega World, the Chinese Garden, Star City Casino, the enormous IMAX Cinema and the Powerhouse Museum. Over the Christmas holiday season, the harbour is a magical festival featuring live music, entertainment, christmas tree lighting, search-for-Santa, and Christmas carols. So, if you're travels find you in Sydney during the holiday season, Darling Harbour is the place to be. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Panorama and park |
Watsons Bay Sydney, NSW Australia +61 2 9255 1788 (The Rocks Visitors Centre) |
When international director and closet ghoul Alfred Hitchcock visited Sydney in the sixties this was his infamous point of reference. Locals know, and tourists do not, that this is not only the last stop for the desperate few, it's also a beautiful location for a spectacular scenic cliff top walk that begins at The Gap Park. Located within the Watson's Bay area, it is an ideal place to sample fish and chips down at the wharf or take a leisurely walk to the eye opening nudist beach, Lady Jane. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Red light district |
Darlinghurst Road and Victoria Streets (Kings Cross) Sydney, NSW 2011 Australia +61 2 9255 1788 (The Rocks Visitors Centre) |
Best known to most Australians as the drug and red light capital of Australia, the "Cross" is a sleazy collection of strip clubs, adult bookshops, and tacky nightclubs. Over the years many attempts have been made to transform the area into something a little more "respectable": small trendy cafes, restaurants, and shops have sprung up on the fringes, but the area still attracts a different type of visitor. Potts Point is perhaps the most desirable location, at the lower end of the Cross. It is here you will find the glamorous townhouses, hotels, bars, and restaurants. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This magnificent park stretches to the North of the city across some of Sydney's most affluent areas. A beautiful, tranquil place to bush walk, you can see examples of Aboriginal rock art and participate in guided tours and boat and canoe trips. Escape from the hustle and bustle of the city centre and take in the wonderful, often unusual Australian flora and fauna. There are some great spots for a bit of panoramic photography throughout the park. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Great surfing beach |
Steyne Street Sydney, NSW 1655 Australia http://www.manlyweb.com.au/ vic@manly.nsw.gov.au |
Manly is a popular beachside resort and a favourite with generations of families. In 1915, Aussie surfing was born here, when Hawaiian Duke Kahanamoku rode a plank of shaped wood. There was also the one-man beach protest against the no daylight swimming law, which heralded the rise of Sydney's fanatical beach culture. Manly has an array of beaches to explore, both harbour and surf, and some breathtaking coast walks. Shops and restaurants abound around the Corso. Review © 2007, Wcities |

58 Myrtle Street Chippendale Sydney, NSW 2008 Australia +61 (0)2 9310 2930 http://members.ozemail.com.au/... mmobbs@ozemail.com.au |
Mike Mobbs, a Sydney environmental lawyer, and his lawyer wife Heather and two kids decided in 1996 to renovate their 100 year old terrace, situated in the densely populated inner-city, between two major roads. On a block less than 35 metres long and five metres wide, with vision and tenacity, they have made their home completely self-sustainable! Their home collects all its drinking water from the roof, generates its own electricity from solar panels and processes all its wastewater, including sewage, on site. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Vehicles galore |
320 Harris Street Sydney, NSW 2009 Australia +61 (0)2 9552 3375 |
This museum houses a collection of around 170 cars, trucks and motorcycles, from antiques to recent models. Some of their showpieces include Edward VII's Gardener's Serpollet steam car, the stainless steel Delorean that featured in the "Back to the Future" films, a Model T BP tanker, and Anthony Quinn's hot pink 1959 Cadillac. The Museum is very close to Darling Harbour and is part of a multi-storey car park, so parking is not a problem. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Superb shopping in historical surroundings |
455 George St Sydney, NSW 2000 Australia +61 (0)2 9264 9209 http://www.qvb.com.au |
Built in 1898 to celebrate Queen Victoria's golden jubilee, the QVB is a history lesson and shopping experience rolled into one. Designed to resemble a Byzantine palace, marvel at the central copper dome and the glass roof, take note of the original floor tiles and cast iron circular staircase and then you could even think about doing some shopping. With over 200 stores there is something for everyone, particularly if you are in search of a designer label or two. Fashion, art, antiques, gifts, souvenirs, jewellery, cafes, this is a shopaholics paradise. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Historic area of Sydney |
George Street Sydney, NSW 2000 Australia +61 (0)2 9240 8500 http://www.rocksvillage.com.au therocks@shfa.nsw.gov.au |
This is the oldest and most historic area of Sydney. Named after its rough terrain, it survived for nearly two centuries as Sydney's main working class area. Amongst the warren of lanes and pebbled streets there is plenty to see and do, including Susannah Place, The Garrison Gallery, The Military Museum, and Cadman's Cottage; the Museum of Contemporary Art and the S H Ervin Gallery offer something a little more "contemporary". If you have had enough history, there is always an endless array of restaurants, pubs, shops and a crafty weekend market. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Danish architect Jorn Utzon has reportedly never laid eyes on his masterpiece, resigning in 1966 due to political difficulties and construction delays—it was finally finished in 1973. It now has an impressive yearly program of up to 3,000 contemporary and classical performances and is a truly memorable place for theatre, opera and ballet.
