Here's a chance to see some of the province's best ice-carvers turn Nathan Phillips Square into an icy wonderland. Up to twenty carving teams compete in this two-day frosty frenzy, sculpting marvelous works out of gargantuan ice blocks. There is a yearly theme—last year it was Middle Earth from Tolkien's vivid imagination. This year's theme has yet to be announced. Everyone is encouraged to vote for their favourite sculpture via ballot, and the winner is announced at the Awards Ceremony at the end of the event. The event is free.
