One of the most famous agricultural tourism sites in the province. |
Frazione Samatorza, 47 Trieste 34010 Italy +39 40 22 9191 |
Gruden is one of the most famous holiday farmhouses in the province. On the Carsican plain, behind the city, it offers excellent grilled veal and pork and large plates of gnocchi and yota (a typically local soup only for strong stomachs). But the real specialities are the delicious goats cheeses, made locally, with very tasty cured meats (prosciutto and salami). The wine is excellent, and is again of local origin. There is seating for eighty, with a large and pleasant open air area. The bus stop is not more than 20m from the entrance. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Amongst the green plains, another milestone for Trieste food |
Malchina, 23/a Trieste 34013 Italy +39 40 29 9471 |
Yet another milestone in local restoration amidst the clearings and woods of Carso, much loved by the locals. This is Malchina, a tiny town near to Sistiana, half an hour from Trieste, heading towards Venice. In the large garden that seats over 100, you can spend lovely evenings or entire afternoons, trying the typical, wholesome dishes of this region simple, yet refined at the same time. The excellent game meat as starters will more than satisfy but it's hard to resist the rest, such as the homemade gnocchi, barley soups, wild boar shank and bacon faggots. And to drink, there is of course the unmistakable local red Terrano wine. There is seating for 130 inside but not opting for the garden means you miss out on some of the charm that this place holds. There is no problem with parking of course, but then that can be taken for granted out of town. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Excellent fish restaurant |
Sistiana, 59 Trieste 34013 Italy +39 40 29 1515 |
A few hundred metres away from the junction leading to the beautiful Sistiana Mare, on the outskirts of Trieste, you will come across this fish restaurant which dates back to 1910. Traditional home-cooked dishes are on offer, combined with all the advantages of a modern restaurant. "Gino" was renovated a few years ago, and offers an excellent assortment of starters which are brought around on a tray, these can be follwed by abundant pasta dishes. The second courses are mainly made up of fresh fish which is always of excellent quality. The desserts are alll home-made, and the wine list is surprisingly varied. The prices are a little high, but this is mainly because of the area in which the restaurant is situated, which is definitely worth visiting. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Self service food |
Malchina, 54/A Trieste 34013 Italy +39 40 29 1529 |
Don't wait to be served in this small place near Duino. There are no waiters, but it is still worth coming here for lunch, as the food in this small corner of paradise is truly excellent and can be enjoyed far from the chaos and traffic of the city. Customers order at the bar and leave their name, when their name is called after a few minutes, they come back to pick up the food. The menu is typical with huge portions and ridiculously low prices, including grilled meat, potato dumplings, extraordinary cheeses, vegetables and omelettes. There is a choice of wine and beer and an enchanting array of desserts, all home made. There is also a park where kids can play. Don't miss out! Review © 2007, Wcities |
