Two minutes from Porta Nuova, the central station of Turin, this confectioners tempts anyone going on a journey to take with them some Torinese delicacy. The retailers of Prunotto Antonio liqueurs was set up in the same location in 1883, who also made the rich, external cornice and the precious plaster of the vault which still exists today. In 1926, Avvignano Silfredo, took over and began work on preparing the 'Confetteria Avvignano'. Nowadays, it feels as if nothing has changed since then. The plaster sign between the entrance and the window, which is made to look like bronze, has become the symbol of this prestigious place. The interior was done by Quaglino, the antiques dealer. The wooden counter, with green marble from the Alps, is decorated, as is the window furniture with festoons and strings with a variety of knots varnished in gold. Pure gold varnish and gilding is also used on the walls and ceiling. Avvignano sells the best makes of sweets, and is a great place to buy pralines, truffles and special chocolates with grappa.

Don't miss the 'agnolotti del plin' typical of Roero, so called because the pasta, which is extremely thin, is pinched. The 'plin' separates and seals the agnolotti and gives it its characteristic shape. The filling is a base of roast veal and pork, salted pork meat, spinach and cheese, and there is also an excellent version with fondue and truffles. The first official licence for 'ciocolaté' was given in Italy in 1678 by the royal madam Giovanna Battista to Gio Antonio Ari with 'the privilege to publicly sell chocolate as a drink and to be the first to introduce this to Turin'. This was the beginning of a story which would lead to Turin being considered as the capital of 'made in Italy' chocolate. Gertosio continues this tradition, in partnership with other chocolate masters, it has its own workshop where all the work is carried out, starting from the cocoa which is directly imported from Sri Lanka and South America to the finished product. More than 50 types of chocolate can be found here and they also sell excellent cakes, made from chocolate and fruit.

Laboratorio artigianale del gianduiotto

The chocolate lovers triangles
Via Cagliari, 15a
Turin 10153
Italy
It is said that at the beginning of the 19th Century, a Piedmontese invented a cocoa pastry making machine that mixed it with sugar and vanilla to solidify the chocolate, which up until then had only been known as a drink. This was how chocolate bars, single chocolates and easter eggs began to be produced. In 1865, the successful union of exotic cocoa and round hazelnuts, became Gianduia which took its name from the Torinese mask and was the origins of chocolate production in the classic triangular shape, wrapped in golden or silver paper. Therefore, it is no coincidence that this Torinese workshop, faithful to tradition, offers all kinds of gianduiotti to its clientèle, including coffee flavors, mini ones called turinot, gianduia cream and easter eggs.
