Excursions by plane and classes |
Carrer del Clavell Manises Valencia 46940 Spain +34 96 152 3192 |
This flying club holds courses and classes to help you obtain your pilot's licence. Furthermore, it is possible for you to charter a plane with a pilot and enjoy Valencia from above. Particularly recommended is a trip over the Albufera national park. Viewing Valencia from the air is not the cheapest way to get to know the city, but it is one of the most spectacular. Each plane holds up to three passengers so you can split the cost with two friends. Prices vary depending on what excursion or route you choose. Contact the club directly for more details on schedules and prices. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Beautiful sunset views from a boat! |
Lago de l'Albufera Valencia Spain |
These boat rides around the lagoon recall the picturesque landscapes that writer Blasco Ibanez described in his novel Canas y barro (Reeds and Mud). The best time to cross the lake is at dusk, as the sunsets are quite beautiful. You can also enjoy some of the region's typical dishes on the boat, either pre-ordering them or bringing your own. The length of the ride depends on the group, although 30 minutes is the norm and only during daylight hours. Frequency of departures depends on the season and the weather conditions. You can begin the ride around L'Albufera at the Palmar docks, the gola del Perellonet (Perellonet Channel), or the Catarroja Port. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Where Lladrò is made |
Carretera de Alboraya, s/n Tavernes Blanques Valencia 46016 Spain +34 96 318 7000 http://www.lladro.es |
"In the 1950s, the Lladró brothers started up their business in a small workshop in Almácera, a town surrounded by the fields of Valencia. This is how the porcelain giant began. Today, Lladró figurines are made in what's called The City of Porcelain, an industrial complex occupying more than 100000m2 of floor space in Tavernes Blanques, a small town only 6km from Valencia. More than 2200 people work there, most of them craftsmen. Visiting the City of Porcelain is a privilege reserved exclusively for members of the Lladró Collectors Society. The rest of us have no choice but to stop by the headquarters and shop on Poeta Querol, 9, in downtown Valencia, where you can get more information about the company as well as admire their collection or even do a bit of shopping." Surf lessons |
Edificio Prado Cullera Valencia 46400 Spain +34 96 172 5093 |
Perhaps you want to get away from the city of Valencia and its beaches to practice your favourite sport relatively unmolested by the large boats that frequent the port of Valencia. Situated on the beach of Cullera this club runs courses for windsurfing and surfing throughout most of the year (from Easter on) and is an ideal location for you to learn or improve your windsurfing and surfing skills. At the height of summer the beach can get quite crowded and the resources of this club can be stretched quite thin, so booking in advance is advisable especially during the summer months. Transport: Trains leave frequently to Cullera from the Estación del Norte station in Valencia Review © 2007, Wcities |

One of the best in Spain |
Carretera de Godelleta, km 4.1 Chiva Valencia 46370 Spain +34 96 180 8000 |
Recently rated the fifth best course in Spain by Golf World Magazine, the El Bosque golf course is truly one of the greatest courses in Europe. It was opened in 1975 and was designed by Robert Trent Jones, who also designed the famous Valderrama. It is situated just a few kilometres from the city of Valencia and is the perfect place to get the most out of the city and the joy of golf. El Bosque is a 72 par course with 18 holes, 100 bunkers, 12 raised greens and a number of daunting water hazards. It is a challenging course to say the least. It should come as no surprise, then, that a golf course of this calibre attracts the stars, counting Sergio Garcia "El Niño" and Seve Ballesteros amongst its regular visitors. For those with high handicap |
Carretera de Bétera Bétera Valencia 46117 Spain +34 96 160 1211 escorpi@clubescorpion.com |
Designed by Ron Kirby and opened in 1975, this course is favoured by players with a high handicap and seniors. It is characterised by flat narrow fairways and dotted with lakes that make this course very beautiful and add a level of difficulty to playing here. Of the 18 holes, numbers 9 and 18 are worth a special mention as both have over 500 meters of fairways, while one is flanked by a lake and the other by a small wood of hundred-year-old carob trees. The club house is a very attractive 19th century farm house with a top-quality restaurant and bar. This golf course is open to public during week days for 8000 ptas. Weekends and public holidays are reserved exclusively for members. Transport: By car or taxi Review © 2007, Wcities |

Nine holes |
Carretera Ribarroja, Km. 4 Manises Valencia 46940 Spain +34 96 152 3804 / +34 96 152 1871 |
Having only nine holes creates a special atmosphere that is very welcoming to families and children; in fact many people were introduced to the game of golf at a very young age here. You'll find this same feeling in the Club House (with restaurant and bar) where children have free reign over the place. Don't be fooled, however, into thinking that this is an easy course to play in: the greens are surrounded by bunkers and the fairways are narrow and flanked by pine trees, meaning that any wayward shot is severely punished. The number 7 hole (4 par) is particularly famous for this. The course was built in 1954 and is the oldest in Valencia by some 14 years. Public transport will not take you to this golf course, but there is a bus every ten minutes to Manises from the bus station: CVT Manises. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Nice seaside town |
Valencia 46400 Spain +34 96 351 0417 |
This seaside town is only 40km from Valencia. Cullera is in Ribera Baixa county, where the Xùquer river reaches the sea. The town itself is on flatlands, with the sea and river on one side and the Serra de Corbera mountains (more than 500m tall) on the other. Also, a part of Albufera Natural Park is within this county. Cullera is an important town for tourism in the area and it has quality beaches. It's also interesting for its cultural and historic attractions, such as its 13th century castle or the Virgen del Castillo sanctuary. It's worth the short trip for the swim or just to get out of the city for the day. Commuter trains leave frequently from Estación del Norte station in Valencia. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Leisure & recreation area |
Avenida de Pinars Valencia Spain |
This stretch of land, full of sand dunes and pine trees and located 10 kilometres south of the city, separates L'Albufera Lake from the Mediterranean Sea. It has long been a prime leisure and recreation area for Valencians, who enjoy the beaches, forests, athletic areas, and restaurants. Formerly, it was a livestock pasture and a royal hunting reserve. Here you'll find the Parador Nacional del Saler (part of the top-quality national hotel chain) with its magnificent golf course surrounded by sand dunes. There is also a five-star hotel, the Sidi Saler. In the middle of Dehesa Forest you'll find the Casa Forestal (Country Home), that once was the royal hunting pavilion and that boats beautiful remains of traditional Valencian tilework, as well as a viewing area where you can catch the famous sunsets over l'Albufera. Horse riding lessons |
Calle del Cinco Picassent Valencia 46220 Spain +34 96 124 2445 http://www.hipicaalarcon.com info@hipicaalarcon.com |
This horse riding school offers classes to absolute beginners or to those wishing to perfect their techniques for competitions and anyone in-between. Although it is just half an hour by metro from Valencia, it is situated deep in the Valencian countryside and there is no better way to see this part of Valencia than from the back of a horse. The school also organizes many excursions throughout Alta Turia county as well. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Beautiful spot south of Valencia |
Carretera del Palmar Valencia 46012 Spain +34 96 351 0417 http://www.civila.com/albufera |
L´Albufera natural park is located 12km south of the city. It is a beautiful spot where there are periodically a large number of migratory birds to be seen. It is a salt-water lake with a 6km diameter at its widest. It is separated from the Mediterranean by the Dehesa, a strip of land covered in pine-trees and with warm water beaches. The experts recommend a boat trip during sunset when the fading light gives the landscape some spectacular colours and hues. Around the lake there are some small fishing villages such as El Palmar, a picturesque place well-known for the quality of its restaurants. It's also a good place from which to visit the lake by boat. Buses leave from the central bus station in Valencia (Menéndez Pidal Avenue) Review © 2007, Wcities |

Former island of the L'Albufera |
Autovia Sue de Valenci Valencia 46012 Spain +34 96 162 0066 |
El Palmar, which was an island in L'Albufera natural reserve until the lagoon was partially dried in the mid-Forties, is a must for those looking for the most beautiful scenery south of Valencia. You can also enjoy local cuisine here: all i pebre de anguilas (baby eels with garlic and pepper) and espardenyà. The scenic route runs between Dehesa Forest and the lake, crossing fields and palisades covered with rosebays. The fishing community, the annual lottery for fishing privileges (redolín), and the pilgrimage to Cristo de la Salut (Christ of Good Health) celebrated in the lluent (center of the lake), are traditions that live on, as if taken straight from one of Sorolla's costumbrista paintings. Near the Ciudad Fallera |
Calle de Francisco Morote Greus Valencia 46025 Spain +34 96 347 2960 |
This park is close to the famous Ciudad Fallera (where they make the "fallas"). It's located on what used to be an orange grove, and a few of these trees have been conserved. Inside, there are a variety of recreational areas. The area dedicated to kids has some interesting attractions, a tarzan hut, footbridges, ramps, a fireman's pole and swings of all shapes and sizes. The park also has some sport facilities. Particularly outstanding is the open-air swimming pool, only open during summer months. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Where passengers and goods embark |
Avinguda del Puerto Valencia 46500 Spain http://www.valenciaport.com/ webmaster@valenciaport.com |
Valencia's Maritime Station is one of the most modern in Spain. Each year more than 500,000 people depart from the Passenger Terminal on their way to the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, and Genova. In addition to human passengers, it is the top Spanish port and one of the most important European ones for cargo (containers) shipping. Next to the modernist Edificio del Reloj (clock building) and Edificio de los Tinglados (warehouse) lies the dock where the Golondrinas (pleasure boats) leave from; these provide daily tours around the beautiful inner harbour. Also nearby are the Reales Atarazanas (Royal Dockyards), a historic and artistic monument that houses the Maritime Museum. Review © 2007, Wcities |

International athletics & cycling races |
Calle de Cocentaina Valencia 46035 Spain +34 96 390 4932 / +34 96 390 4935 |
Built in 1992 this is a very modern indoor sports complex of international repute. The European indoor athletics championships for 2000 were held in this building and many international and national indoor cycle pursuits have taken place here. Given this fact it is not surprising that the headquarters for the Cycling Federation of Valencia has also found a home here. The prices and dates for the spectator events obviously vary and you should contact the Velodrome directly for more details. If you turn up on a Sunday and there is no special event taking place, you can watch some of Valencia's top cyclists being put through their paces on the pursuit track. It is very impressive to see these supreme athletes shooting past just a couple of feet from you. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Town of historical interest |
Calle de Játiva Valencia 46002 Spain +34 96 228 3129 (Ayuntamiento Town Hall) |
Xàtiva is the capital of Costera county and is located some 50 km south of Valencia. It was one of the natural routes into "The Kingdom of Valencia" from the plains to the west and Murcia or Andalusia to the south. It's a very interesting town for historical and cultural reasons. It's commonly known as the "City of a Thousand Fountains" and in it you'll find an Iberian-Roman castle that the Moors would later use as well. Another important monument is the Santo Domingo Convent built in the 14th century. It's worth the trip. Transport: Commuter trains to Xàtiva leave from Estación del Norte station in Valencia.
