Interesting exhibits in old warehouse |
Plaza de San Luis Beltrán 1 Valencia 46003 Spain +34 96 352 5478 |
This building was constructed in the 16th century and served as a warehouse (hence the name, almudín from the Arabic) which stored the city's grain. Previously, it was also the site of the Paleontologic Museum but is nowadays dedicated to temporary exhibitions, ranging from art to archaeology and ethnology. The building was recently restored and they recovered the deteriorated wall paintings that depict scenes of everyday life in 16th century Valencia. The Almudín was declared a national historical and artistic monument shortly before its restoration. The square onto which this building opens is also one of the most attractive in the city and another good reason to visit. Admission: free Review © 2007, Wcities |

Brazilian atmosphere & show |
Calatrava, 12 Valencia 46001 Spain +34 96 392 3095 |
This locale is more than just a café-bar, it is a real show. Café Bahiano is the place to be if you want to experience a real Brazilian night. Everything will make you feel in Río de Janeiro, the drinks, the music and the atmosphere. The star drink here, not surprisingly, is caipirinha. And if you drop by on a Friday or Saturday night, sip on your drink while listening to a live band from Brazil. If you're the daring sort, clear a space for yourself to dance in. There are live tango shows every Thursday. Review © 2007, Wcities |

You'll find the Colegio del Arte Mayor de la Seda on the edge of the old city, in Antiguo Hospital Street. The building was constructed in 1756 with a pretty rococo façade, and it is perhaps one of the most singular buildings of its type in Valencia. Inside there is an important collection of 18th century Valencian silk as well as several pieces of machinery, such as textile mills and die-stamps, related to the art of treating silk. Located near the Antiguo Hospital Library, it currently is seat to the Centro de Artesanía de la Comunidad de Valencia, a public organisation and school dedicated to training future artisans. Films Dedicated to Directors, Stars... |
Plaza del Ayuntamiento, 17 Valencia 46002 Spain +34 96 351 2336 |
The Filmoteca is temporarily closed for renovations. Screenings are now being held in the Salon de Actos de IVAM Calle Guillem de Castro 118, and the Institut Français, Moro Ziet 6. The Filmoteca is one of the oldest cinemas in Valencia. It's subsidised by the government of Valencia. This cinema bases its programme of films on already released films. These are usually included in seasons that correspond to an actor, a director, a theme, a cinematic tendency or a different school. These can be either foreign or Spanish productions. It's worth noting that it is one of the few cinemas that screen short films. It is, at the same time, one of the most active cinemas during the annual Muestra de Cine del Mediterranni (Mediterranean Film Festival). Review © 2007, Wcities |

A unique gallery |
Calle Del Palau 10 Valencia 46003 Spain +34 96 391 7248 |
The Palau gallery is located in the old district of Valencia, very near San Juan del Hospital Church. It is a very interesting place to simply look around, as well as to buy contemporary works of art. It gained notoriety in the 70s and 80s for exhibiting the work by the Equipo Crónica. The gallery now works with contemporary artists, such as Fuencisla Francia, among others. One of its principal assets is its owner for her understanding, taste and integrity, as well as the quality of the art on offer. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The Madrid is a great place to have a quiet beer with your friends and listen to live jazz or poetry readings. The atmosphere is both pleasent and calm. This space is divided into open booths in a circle with a wooden table in the middle, providing a bit of privacy, while the walls are decorated with old posters. The speciality of this bar is definitely the "Agua de Valencia" and the variety of their beers. The age group of clientele ranges between 20 and 30 year olds. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The Micalet also offer productions and workshops for students. The entrance fee and schedule change with each production." Review © 2007, Wcities |

Big bar with theme parties |
Santa Teresa, 19 Valencia 46001 Spain +34 96 392 2061 |
This nice and spacious bar located in the old quarter of the city, has for many years been a popular place. The owners, Luis and Iggy, continually organize theme nights that vary from different kinds of music, theater, performances, or live bands. In the summer you will be more than happy with the air conditioning provided and the large space to move around in. The decoration is very minimalist, with only tables and individual stools. It attracts easy-going people between the ages of 25 and 45. Besides the 2 bars, there is a pool table, darts and a fabulous space on the second floor which you can rent for parties, dinners, courses or any other type of event. On Tuesday afternoons, for example, there are tai-chi classes. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Experimental theater and cinema |
Plaza del Ayuntamiento, 17 Edificio Rialto Valencia 46002 Spain +34 96 353 9300 |
This small hall located right in the center of Valencia, in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, belongs to a chain of theaters owned by the Valencian government. It is situated in the same building as the Sala Rialto. Because of its small size, its possibilities are limited, therefore it specializes in avant-garde productions. It is used mostly by Valencian theater groups who put on experimental performances with unique staging arrangements, although on occasion you'll find vanguard groups from other places. It also serves as a cinema where they show new or never-seen cultural films. The entrance fee and schedule change according to the production. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Medieval City Entrance |
Plaza de los Fueros, s/n Valencia 46003 Spain +34 96 391 9070 |
Construction on these large guard towers was finished in 1391. They were once the main entrance to the city in the long-since destroyed wall. They offer a perfect view of the old riverbed of the Turia river and its surroundings. From an architectural point of view, they are both pentagon-shaped, connected by a common gallery, and decorated with gothic designs on the borders. On the top there are parapets, and, around the entire structure, you can see the remains of the old moat. These towers also serve a purpose during the famous Cridà, or announcement. This is a popular event announcing the arrival of the most important festival in Valencia- the Fallas- encouraging everyone to participate. You can enter the towers and climb to the top for the fantastic views of the city they offer. Admission: free Review © 2007, Wcities |

Cinema converted into a theater |
Plaza del Ayuntamiento, 17 Edificio Rialto Valencia 46002 Spain +34 96 353 9300 |
In the 80s, a lot of old theatres were converted into multi-plexes. Here, however, the opposite occurred. This well known cinema was transformed into a theater by the Valencian government. It's in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento and is now the headquarters of the Dramatic Center of the Valencian government. Today, it is one of the several theater spaces run by the local government, and it puts on reasonably high quality shows and performances by companies from the Valencian province and other national and international groups. The entrance fee and schedule vary acording to the show. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Recently renovated theater |
Caballeros, 31 Valencia 46001 Spain +34 96 391 2920 |
This old theater was formerly for the working class. It was purchased and renovated by the Valencian government and only very recently reopened its doors. Fortunately, the remodelling undertaken did not destroy the modernist decor, but in fact, served to highlight its beauty. Since its re-opening, it has become a much appreciated theater by both the general public and the actors who say that they love working there. They have put on various musical and classical productions giving it a very Valencian feel. Review © 2007, Wcities |
