European and/or award winning films |
Plaza Fray Luis Colomer, 4-AC Valencia 46021 Spain +34 96 393 2677 |
This cinema is characterized by the types of films it shows. It has the reputation of being an underground type of place with a very specific audience. The movies are in general not blockbusters, but rather independent budget films from Europe and Latin America. Another point worth mentioning is that all the movies are shown in original version with subtitles in Spanish. At the theatre entrance, you'll also find programs with all the critiques of the film and information about the film, actors and directors. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Alternative concerts & scene |
Jacinto Benavente, 5 Valencia 46005 Spain +34 96 382 6222 http://www.conexionspot.es/dis... |
If alternative and independent music is your thing, then Barracabar, in the Cánovas area, is the place where you belong. There's always a good scene to be found and, of course, good music. Plus, they have concerts on every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday after midnight. Not to be missed. Just to give you an idea of the type of music you'll hear, here are a few examples: Beck, Blur, Adorable, James, The Posies, Oasis, Mathew Sweet, Suede, Morphine, Radiohead, Big Soul, Manic Street Preacher, The Chemical Brothers, Edwyn Collins, Luna, Brad, Placebo, and many more. Prices are a bit higher than in other places, but the music (live or otherwise) is worth it. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Live music every night |
Polo y Peyrolon, 15 Valencia 46021 Spain +34 96 393 3663 |
Valencia's only live music venue that offers concerts nearly every day of the week. You'll hear mainly jazz, although bossa nova, blues, soul and even Latin groups turn up to play from time to time as well. It's a great place to hang out with friends and have a drink. If there's no live music on, you'll find the background music (soul, R&B, jazz or reggae) is more than a good enough substitute. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Celtic music |
Vinalopó, 11 Valencia 46021 Spain +34 96 362 6867 |
Come to this pub for the best Celtic music and tradition. They organize special parties (with gifts!) and live concerts by international and local bands. If you want to see what a real Irish pub is like, come here. It's a very recommended spot. As for drinks, there's a wide variety to choose from: from cider and orujo (high-power liqueur from the north of Spain) to 50 different brands of Irish whisky. But what's an Irish pub without beer? Well, here you'll find a good assortment of beers on tap. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Live local bands |
Avenida Campoamor, 52-54 Valencia 46022 Spain |
If you like good rock, then Sonora is the place for you. They've always got good music on and there's a good scene. Sonora also works as a venue for local bands primarily who play here before making it big. Who knows? In a few years' time you might be able to say you knew x band before they made it. Lots of record presentations, conferences, parties, and more are organized here. It's a very recommended place. Review © 2007, Wcities |
