En Llop, 3 Valencia 46002 Spain +34 96 351 7057 |
This bar was founded in 1932 and bit by bit has gained a good reputation and regular clientele. The decoration and the atmosphere are that of a typical neighborhood bar, nothing fancy and few frills. The clients who come to this bar are generally businessmen and workers who work close by. This bar is known for its cold meat and Spanish tortilla (potato omelette) sandwiches, while it has a good assortment of "tapas", such as grilled kidney and breaded and fried cuttlefish. Moro Zeit, 13 Valencia 46001 Spain +34 96 391 0497 |
A long-established traditional tapas bar that has been serving tasty snacks and drinks in the heart of the old town since 1918. Try the famous freshly-steamed mussels, the broad beans cooked with mint or the potato salad. These are best accompanied by a house wine or Valencian vermouth. Popularly and affectionately known as La Pilarica, it fills up quickly during the weekends and you can't book in advance. The decor is old-fashioned and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Central restaurant with a varied menu & breakfast |
San Vicente Mártir, 35 Valencia 46001 Spain +34 96 394 1035 |
A very European name for this central coffee shop and restaurant located close to the train station and the bullring. Its specialities include sandwiches, tapas and combo platters, but for those who want something a bit sturdier, they also offer an à la carte menu and a special set menu at the weekends. The decor is classic and has paid careful attention to the details. Prices are quite reasonable in spite of its central location. It's a good place for a break or to start your tour of Valencia. It gets quite busy at midday and weekends, so you'd better book in advance. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Its decor is classic in style, with wood and warm colours all over. You'll find the world's best coffee here, ranging from the mildest to the most acidic coffee beans available, and for those who want an extra boost, coffees laced with alcohol. Bohemian café |
Conde de Almodóvar, 1 Valencia 46003 Spain +34 96 391 7336 |
As soon as you walk into this café-bar, the first thing you notice is its incredible decor and ambiance. It definitely is a bohemian type of place with art (paintings and sculptures) in every corner. The soft lighting and the classical music on in the background do the rest to create the perfect place for a nice, unhurried chat. They serve all sorts of drinks, from cocktails to coffee and tea. Traditional bar with good cocktails and tapas |
Salvá, 1 Valencia 46002 Spain +34 96 352 1010 |
This bar was in vogue in the 50s and 60s, and it still has that same, almost "rancid" ambiance, especially with its English-esque decor. The clientèle is generally fairly mixed, although an older crowd tends to be the norm. A recommended dish is rice with Swiss chard, and as for tapas, bacalao con alioli (codfish with garlic mayonnaise). If you're thirsty, try the house wine or, especially, one of their cocktails. Tapas bar and Arab-decor |
Mesón de Teruel, 8 Valencia 46002 Spain +34 96 394 3612 |
Decorated in Arabic style, the entrance is adorned with an arch, and once inside, you can admire the ceilings decorated with pretty Arabic motifs. They have a wide selection of excellent tapas, among which the favourites seem to be pickled picantón and oxtail. Their special montaditos (canapés) are also very good. For the thirsty, there is a good range of wines to choose from. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Great variety of beers and tapas |
plaza de la Reina, 19 Valencia 46003 Spain +34 96 392 3191 |
Just a five minute-walk from the centre, this is a popular bar. It's divided into two different parts: at the entrance, it's a tapas bar, where you can choose from a wide variety of beers and order some of the tapas they serve, such as fried baby squid, cuttlefish, Spanish omelette, Spanish spicy chorizo sausage and more. The decor is rustic in style, with huge beer barrels as tables. In addition to the variety of food, there is a good mix of music, ranging from flamenco to African beats, jazz and reggae, too. At the back, there is a traditional restaurant serving Spanish dishes. They have an excellent wine list, as well, among which the Via Aurelia stands out. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Chinese restaurant in the centre |
Plaza Porta del Mar, 6 Valencia 46004 Spain +34 96 394 3888 |
This magnificent restaurant is situated in one of the nicest squares in central Valencia. Its large, Oriental facade provides a touch of exoticism and colour to the whole area. The two large dining rooms offer two types of menus. It would be difficult to single out one dish as its specialty, because everything is really delicious. Suffice it to say that this restaurant stands out from other Chinese restaurants both in terms of decoration and atmosphere as well as in quality. Just have a look and judge for yourself. Good food and nice decor |
Jorge Juan, 28 Valencia 46004 Spain +34 96 394 1758 |
The Gran Taberna is decorated with an ornate automobile and railroad theme. The clientele is varied but all of them have one thing in common: they come for the house specialty, the meat. It also does offer a wide variety of fish dishes. They offer two menus when they prepare their delicious cocido madrileno chickpea, ham and chicken stew. All of this can be washed down with a house wine. To finish off a good meal this tavern offers some amazing desserts, most notably the chocolate covered fruits. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Typical Basque restaurant |
Convento Santa Clara, 9 Valencia 46001 Spain +34 96 351 6743 |
In the centre of Mediterranean and sunny Valencia, this Basque tavern stands out, bringing all the style and taste of the far north, to remind us of the great variety and contrasts that exist within the Spanish territory. If its classic, typical and a bit rustic decoration recreates the Basque atmosphere, its exquisite menu represents the best of northern cuisine, in which fish dishes and its speciality, bacalao al pil-pil (delicious codfish recipe) stand out. They offer a late breakfast menu and a fantastic daily menu, making this restaurant the paradise for fish and Basque cuisine lovers. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Its decoration is luxurious and classic, and it is the perfect setting for the best international, seven continent cuisine, including typical tapas from all over the world. They also organize theme weeks devoted to the cuisine of different areas of the globe. The clientele, not surprisingly, is very mixed, and the atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and comfortable, with room for everybody, no matter where you come from. Typical Greek restaurant in centre |
Poeta Liern, 2 Valencia 46003 Spain +34 96 394 4443 |
The country that was the birthplace of Classic culture and Western Civilization still has lots to offer nowadays. This is the case of Rincon Griego (Greek Corner), a good restaurant which offers the best in Greek food, such as musaka or iman marino, a speciality consisting of stuffed aubergine (eggplant). You can choose, as well, between two set menus. However, the set menu does not include dessert, so be sure to order one of their delicious home-made pastries. On top of all the great food waiting for you to discover, it's a nice, comfortable place, decorated according to Greek tradition. Review © 2007, Wcities |

S´horabaixa is found in the center of Valencia next to the Plaza de la Virgen. This cosy and casual restaurant will take you a little bit closer to the island of Mallorca with its colorful and seafaring decor, as well as its food. Here you can savor a wide variety of salads and "pa amb oli" (slices of country bread smeared with tomato and olive oil), along with smoked meats, pork sausage and Mallorcan cheese. It is also worth trying the quality wines from the island. On the weekends they offer typical hot dishes such as "tumbet" (a vegetable medley). Review © 2007, Wcities |
