Traditional bar with good cocktails and tapas |
Salvá, 1 Valencia 46002 Spain +34 96 352 1010 |
This bar was in vogue in the 50s and 60s, and it still has that same, almost "rancid" ambiance, especially with its English-esque decor. The clientèle is generally fairly mixed, although an older crowd tends to be the norm. A recommended dish is rice with Swiss chard, and as for tapas, bacalao con alioli (codfish with garlic mayonnaise). If you're thirsty, try the house wine or, especially, one of their cocktails. Traditional food and good atmosphere |
Joaquín Costa, 27 Valencia 46005 Spain +34 96 334 2907 |
Here you'll feel as if you were in Mexico, while actually in one of the best areas of Valencia, only ten minutes walking distance from the centre. This is due to the decor, faithfully reproducing the Mexican aesthetic of bright colours, and its menu, based on traditional Mexican food. On the drinks menu, you'll find equally typical drinks such as tequila, margaritas and other cocktails. The atmosphere is cheerful, relaxed and cool; the clientele is varied, ranging from professionals to students. Everyone coming in can be sure to have a good time with good food. Classic French-Italian restaurant |
Císcar, 34 Valencia 46005 Spain +34 96 334 1528 |
Admiring the pictures, reminiscent of the 1930s, and the art deco style of this restaurant, it is easy to feel transported to the Italy of the "Dolce Vita", but also to decadent Paris at the turn of the XX century. They offer the best specialities of both countries: delicious duck magrais from France and great Italian carpaccios. It's virually impossible not to find something appealing on the menu, and if you consider its location, in Cánovas, possibly the best area in the city, this restaurant is hard to beat. Luxurious French restaurant |
Serrano Morales, 11 Valencia 46004 Spain +34 96 374 7484 |
Just a two-minute walk from Plaza de Cánovas, one of the best and most exclusive areas in the city, is this restaurant, whose specialty, as the name indicates, is the tasty and delicate fondue Savoyarde, made with cheese, and the meat based fondue Bouguignone. They don't usually have fish dishes. Inside, the luxurious and classic decor represents without a shadow of a doubt the best in renowned French taste. Dining here could mean the beginning of an unforgettable evening out on the town, especially for those who appreciate elegance, style and the wonderful flavours of French cuisine. Great variety of beers and tapas |
plaza de la Reina, 19 Valencia 46003 Spain +34 96 392 3191 |
Just a five minute-walk from the centre, this is a popular bar. It's divided into two different parts: at the entrance, it's a tapas bar, where you can choose from a wide variety of beers and order some of the tapas they serve, such as fried baby squid, cuttlefish, Spanish omelette, Spanish spicy chorizo sausage and more. The decor is rustic in style, with huge beer barrels as tables. In addition to the variety of food, there is a good mix of music, ranging from flamenco to African beats, jazz and reggae, too. At the back, there is a traditional restaurant serving Spanish dishes. They have an excellent wine list, as well, among which the Via Aurelia stands out. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Gran Vía Marqués del Túria, 76 Valencia 46005 Spain +34 96 334 2640 |
A relaxing cafe-bar with a wide range of drinks available from herbal teas and aromatic coffees to strong liquors like whisky and tequila. You could spend all day in here peacefully listening to the selection of good commercial pop hits. As the night wears on, the musical choice turns to house and funk. The interior was designed by Javier Mariscal, the famous creator of Barcelona's 1992 Olympic mascot, Cobi. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Chinese restaurant in the centre |
Plaza Porta del Mar, 6 Valencia 46004 Spain +34 96 394 3888 |
This magnificent restaurant is situated in one of the nicest squares in central Valencia. Its large, Oriental facade provides a touch of exoticism and colour to the whole area. The two large dining rooms offer two types of menus. It would be difficult to single out one dish as its specialty, because everything is really delicious. Suffice it to say that this restaurant stands out from other Chinese restaurants both in terms of decoration and atmosphere as well as in quality. Just have a look and judge for yourself. Good food and nice decor |
Jorge Juan, 28 Valencia 46004 Spain +34 96 394 1758 |
The Gran Taberna is decorated with an ornate automobile and railroad theme. The clientele is varied but all of them have one thing in common: they come for the house specialty, the meat. It also does offer a wide variety of fish dishes. They offer two menus when they prepare their delicious cocido madrileno chickpea, ham and chicken stew. All of this can be washed down with a house wine. To finish off a good meal this tavern offers some amazing desserts, most notably the chocolate covered fruits. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Large, well decorated Chinese restaurant |
Avenida Giorgeta, 29 Valencia 46007 Spain +34 96 380 8512 |
The red lanterns and its red facade are the entrance to the delicate flavours of Chinese cuisine and this restaurant's refined decoration. After passing by a small aquarium, you come to a large room with walls decorated in traditional Oriental motifs in blue and gold. The great decor is matched by the good food, with a diverse menu that includes all the specialities of Chinese food known the world over. It's a very affordable place, with a set menu costing only 795 ptas. As for drinks, be sure to try the famous, Tsing Tao beer. New Tapas Bar |
Maestro Gozalbo, 12 Valencia 46005 Spain +34 96 333 6142 |
This tapas bar is situated in the heart of the Canovas area. It is newly opened and offers expensive and specialized tapas. The typical dishes of the bar include wild boar stew and oxtail (only on Wednesday). They have a very good wine cellar with a wide selection of wine from all the different wine-making regions of Spain. When they close the kitchen at midnight on the weekends, they still continue to serve drinks. Decoratively, it is a very attractive bar. It is decorated in a rustic style, with visible brick orange walls. There are also bullfighters painted on one of the walls, with their costumes hanging over a bar. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Typical Basque restaurant |
Convento Santa Clara, 9 Valencia 46001 Spain +34 96 351 6743 |
In the centre of Mediterranean and sunny Valencia, this Basque tavern stands out, bringing all the style and taste of the far north, to remind us of the great variety and contrasts that exist within the Spanish territory. If its classic, typical and a bit rustic decoration recreates the Basque atmosphere, its exquisite menu represents the best of northern cuisine, in which fish dishes and its speciality, bacalao al pil-pil (delicious codfish recipe) stand out. They offer a late breakfast menu and a fantastic daily menu, making this restaurant the paradise for fish and Basque cuisine lovers. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The country that was the birthplace of Classic culture and Western Civilization still has lots to offer nowadays. This is the case of Rincon Griego (Greek Corner), a good restaurant which offers the best in Greek food, such as musaka or iman marino, a speciality consisting of stuffed aubergine (eggplant). You can choose, as well, between two set menus. However, the set menu does not include dessert, so be sure to order one of their delicious home-made pastries. On top of all the great food waiting for you to discover, it's a nice, comfortable place, decorated according to Greek tradition. Review © 2007, Wcities |
