A large group of city artists hosts this month-long art exhibition, which is held in open studios and homes across the city. More than 70 artists take part, allowing visitors to step into city galleries, artists' homes and art spaces every weekend in April. Take a few days to tour around the quiet neighbourhood studios of Kitsilano, Dunbar and Point Grey and see paintings, ceramics, sculpture, photography and more. It's incredible that such delicate figures can be sculpted from such hard materials. The jade and semi-precious stone creations of master sculptor Lyle Sopel are well worth seeing. If you love quilts, fine jewelry, cast iron creations, diverse woodwork or revealing canvases, then you are in luck. Prices range from reasonable for smaller pieces to expensive for higher-end ones.

This is North Vancouver's multi-functional art centre. Part theatre, gallery and museum, it focuses on contemporary art in many forms. The gallery portion houses one of the largest photographic and artistic media collections in the west. Both national and international artists display their work here, but the focus is on Canadian talent.

In addition to the gallery, the North Vancouver Museum and Archives holds the key to the North Shore's photographic history. The Presentation House Theatre plays host to a variety of dramatic performances year round.

This center is named in honor of renowned artist Jack Shadbolt and his wife, writer Doris. It opened in November 1995 as a performance and teaching center for the visual arts, theater and dance. In order to better accommodate the more than 8,000 arts enthusiasts who take part in its programs, classes and workshops, it added multi-use studios and a second theater. Designed by internationally renowned Hotson Bakker Architects, its design and layout, with large, windowed studios, an atrium and raised terrace, complements its natural surroundings.

This museum is situated in a large heritage building, which was once a courthouse. It is located right in the centre of downtown. The fourth largest in Canada and Vancouver's leading visual arts museum, it features four floors of inspirational pleasures—artworks right from those of groundbreaking contemporary visionaries to historical masters. There are rotating exhibitions of major international works, as well as permanent collections of local artists such as Vancouver's famous Emily Carr.
