Comfy art movie house |
2110 Burrard St Vancouver, BC V6J 3H5 Canada +1 604 734 7469 http://www.allianceatlantiscin... |
"It's a cinema, you heathen, not a movie theatre." Don't be surprised if you overhear that in a line-up at this chi-chi five-screen multiplex. Kitsilano yuppies and young boarders finished shopping at next door's Westbeach grab non-fat lattes and muffins before settling into one of this theatre's five comfy and stylish cinemas. It shows foreign, independent and alternative wide-release films and is located minutes from downtown on the West Side. There are matinees on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Admission (weekday matinee/weekend matinee/evening): CAD9/10/12 adults; CAD7 children 3-13 and seniors at all times, and for all on Tuesdays. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Charming old movie house |
3440 Cambie St Vancouver, BC V5Z 2W8 Canada +1 604 709 3456 http://www.parktheatre.info |
Feel like watching a thoughtful, non-Hollywood film to spark your imagination and entertain? This cinema usually fits the bill. A neighbourhood landmark since the 1920s, this 504-love seat Art Deco-style theatre has only one screen, but its owners carefully choose what graces it. Whether it's a Mike Leigh masterpiece or Paul Thomas Anderson's current cinematic genius, it will probably show here. It has daily matinees along with two evening showings. The theatre is air conditioned and has Dolby Digital Sound. Student, senior, children, Tuesday and matinee discount rates are available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Canada's first permanent open-air theatre |
Malkin Bowl Vancouver, BC V6B 3X8 Canada +1 604 687 0174 http://www.tuts.bc.ca/ |
Stanley Park's Malkin Bowl has been home to this drama guild for nearly six decades. Large-scale Broadway productions like The King and I and Oklahoma marked its first years. It closed down in 1963 due to inclement weather but re-opened its doors in 1969 with help from volunteers, businessmen and a local amateur theatre group. The Theatre Under The Stars Musical Society now operates the theatre. I holds two major productions every summer with a cast and crew of non-professionals and volunteers. Review © 2007, Wcities |
