This heritage theatre is situated in a 1905 fire hall downtown, and consistently features fabulous dance and theatre performances. It underwent an outer restoration last year and is lovingly maintained. Festivals of both theatre and dance are held here annually. Its lounge has a happy hour every Friday; mingle with actors and other theatre-types if the desire strikes you. This theatre was built in 1927 and restored in 1976 to its former glory. Originally opened as a vaudeville house, it is now a beautiful, much-loved city landmark. Located in the entertainment district downtown, it has plush velvet seats and carpets with graceful brass accents throughout. It is the perfect venue for a glamorous night out on the town. This grand venue was built by the city in 1959; today it is home to the Vancouver Opera and provincial ballet. It is large, seating almost 3,000 and featuring a 70-foot wide stage. Performances include opera, ballet, musicals, plays, concerts, telethons and ceremonies. Patrons complement the grand atmosphere with more formal dress, so remember to don your dapper best. This Methodist church once sat unused, but has since been transformed into one of the best places in the city to see live theatre, dance, music and other performances.
