'Tis a fair summer's eve, if e'er twas, for watching the fine theatre of thee much-belov'd wordsmith, Shakespeare. This annual summer Shakespeare festival takes place in Kitsilano's Vanier Park, on English Bay. Using the city as a backdrop, this group puts on the famous bard's plays for four months of the year. Whether it is Midsummer Night's Dream, Measure for measure, The Winter's Tale, or Troilus and Cressdia, this group puts on an entertaining show.

"It's a cinema, you heathen, not a movie theatre." Don't be surprised if you overhear that in a line-up at this chi-chi five-screen multiplex. Kitsilano yuppies and young boarders finished shopping at next door's Westbeach grab non-fat lattes and muffins before settling into one of this theatre's five comfy and stylish cinemas. It shows foreign, independent and alternative wide-release films and is located minutes from downtown on the West Side. There are matinees on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Admission (weekday matinee/weekend matinee/evening): CAD9/10/12 adults; CAD7 children 3-13 and seniors at all times, and for all on Tuesdays.

The casual Kitsilano and Gastown locations of this restaurant/bar offer live jazz every night. Local pianist Linton Garner plays every Tuesday to Saturday. Rotating acts appear, as well as regular featured performers at the 162 Water Street location.

"Initially opened in 1931 as a vaudeville and moviehouse, this Art Deco establishment is now under the management of the Arts Club Theatre. It is another testament to Vancouver's current cultural rejuvenation. The historic landmark seats 650 and is currently home to musicals, theatre productions and comedies. The venue now has full bar service and is within walking distance to pre- and post-theatre dining and shops. There is ample parking in the surrounding residential streets."
