Locals visit this lively Italian restaurant in the trendy area of Yaletown for live jazz and good food. The menu consists mainly of pastas, tapas and pizzas. It's a good late night venue to visit, but expect line-ups, as the restaurant is small and the combination of jazz and good Italian food is hard to resist.

This is a hub of local colour. Situated downtown in a lively neighbourhood, it is a restaurant by day and lounge by night that is frequented by musicians, writers and artists. The decor is dark, enhancing the bright paintings that dress the walls and handmade lanterns that zigzag the ceiling. The menu reflects an eclectic mix of vegetarian and West Coast culinary style. A popular dish is the Bruschetta (CAD6.25), served atop toasted foccacia bread with melted mozzarella and parmesan cheese and pesto.

Located in a fairly small downtown building, it shows local, national and international artists who work with a variety of media. Pop culture, individuality and the politics of economics are just some of the themes explored. Recent exhibits have included an examination of the baroque works of Miguel da Conceicao. This is one of the city's most popular nightclubs and concert venues. Downtown's "Dick's on Dicks" entertains with live music and state-of-the-art sounds. The "Funkshon" dance party happens every Tuesday night when resident DJs Rhombus, Ben Jammin, and Yann Solo spin beats with stunning sound. Thursdays offer live musical entertainment from local and international artists. The DJs on "Plush Fridays" play urban tracks, while "Epic Saturdays" let you dance to new music and old favourites. The club has a strongly enforced dress code, so leave the jeans at home.

Gene Simmons of KISS, Jon Bon Jovi, the artist formerly known as Prince, Adam Sandler, Jerry Springer and Richard Branson are some of the celebrities who have hung around this downtown club. It has mostly a sporty, casual college crowd. In the last decade, more than 8 million people have partied here and over 13 million litres of beer have been poured. That is enough brew to fill Lake Ontario.

Though it hosts mainly artistic productions, the venue also holds seminars and events. It is located in the city's entertainment district. The building has a history buff pleasing past and even has its own ghost, rumoured to haunt the dressing room corridor.
