801 West Georgia St Vancouver, BC V6C 1P7 Canada +1 604 682 5566 / +1 800 663 1111 http://www.hotelgeorgia.bc.ca |
This elegant renovated 12-storey heritage hotel was built in 1927. Its oak-panelled lobby and intricate brass elevators have an old-fashioned feel. It is located in the main business, shopping and entertainment districts downtown, across from the shopping of Pacific Centre and the hustle of the Vancouver Stock Exchange. The rooms are decorated with conservative and elegant window treatments and spreads, which give an elegant atmosphere against neutral walls. All the action is here |
Alberni Street-West Pender Street Vancouver, BC Canada http://www.downtownvancouver.com/ |
All the action is right here: sightseeing, shopping, dining and entertainment. Go underground to the Pacific Centre, built beneath downtown's busiest area. Other subterranean shopping sites include the Vancouver, Royal, and Harbour centres. There are movie cineplexes on Granville, as well as many live music and theatre venues. The Commodore Ballroom, Yale, and Starfish Room are great for live music. Also downtown are BC Place and General Motors Place stadiums. Many of the city's most exciting restaurants specialize in everything from international to West Coast cuisine. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Haven of serenity |
578 Carrall Street Vancouver, BC V6B 5K2 Canada +1 604 662 3207 http://www.vancouverchinesegar... |
This is the only full-sized classical Chinese garden outside of China. It employs the ancient techniques of the Ming Dynasty, condensing the serenity of the mountain, streams, valleys and hills into an urban sanctuary. Every niche and arch of the garden is meticulously laid out. Each plant, rock and piece of architecture is selected for its symbolic meaning and mood. The Chinese lettering at the entrance reads 'Garden of Ease'. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Diverse Downtown Neighbourhood |
Denman and Davie Streets Vancouver, BC V6G 1Y9 Canada http://www.englishbay.com |
English Bay is one of Vancouver's most diverse neighbourhoods. Located in downtown's West End, it's where the energetic action of Denman and Davie streets converges. The area is a popular venue for outdoor activities like in-line skating, cycling, walking the seawall, running, and jogging. There are bookstores, gift shops, fashion and cosmetic retailers and other specialty shops; and an eclectic fusion of culinary arts and eateries with clientele to match. Some of the city's best dine-with-a-view restaurants can be found here. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Kayaking and barbecues |
1251 Cardero Street, Suite 2005 Vancouver, BC V6G 2H9 Canada +1 604 684 4922 http://www.lotuslandtours.com/ |
There's nothing quite as satisfying as settling down for a barbecue in the great outdoors after a day of kayaking. Paddle up Indian Arm to a fjord carved out in the last ice age and see seals, eagles, blue herons and geese on your way up. Once there, watch fresh BC salmon being barbecued and served with roasted corn and crisp green salad. No experience or fitness level is required, and pick-up from home and hotel can be arranged. Call or visit the website for trip details and schedules. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Walk with an ocean view |
P.O. Box 5167 (Outside of Stanley Park) Vancouver, BC V6G 3E2 Canada |
Stanley Park's Seawall is one of the most famous places for outdoor activities in Vancouver. The 5.5-mile (8.8km) concrete route circles the perimeter of the park, offering a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean and mountains. The salty breeze fused with hemlock and cedar, immense open space, and surroundings rejuvenate even the staunchest of workaholics. Parents pushing strollers, joggers, walkers, cyclists, and rollerbladers traffic the pedestrian thoroughfare. Benches are placed along the way. The sandy beaches that lay just off the wall are ideal for picnics and naps. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Massive urban park |
West end of Georgia Street Vancouver, BC V6G 3E2 Canada +1 604 257 8400 (Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation) http://www.city.vancouver.bc.c... |
Attractions abound in this massive downtown park, a veritable rainforest within a metropolis. To name just a few of the activities and attractions: the Children's Farmyard, Miniature Railway, tennis courts, beaches, children's water park, heated ocean side swimming pool, the Theatre Under the Stars, the Vancouver Aquarium and the 10.5-km perimeter Seawall, which is packed with joggers, walkers and rollerbladers. Once a military reserve, the park became one of the city's premier attractions by action of the city's first council. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Downtown source for tourists |
200 Burrard Street Plaza Level Vancouver, BC V6C 3L6 Canada +1 604 683 2000 http://www.tourismvancouver.com |
Everything visitors need to know about the city is on hand at this tourist centre. Multilingual representatives provide accommodation bookings, car rentals, maps, brochures and everything else needed to enjoy the city. Located in the Waterfront Centre (the Station) and managed by the Downtown Vancouver Improvements Association, this is the resource to seek out when you are new in town. Along with the information centre, the group has set up kiosks throughout the downtown area. The attendants work only in the downtown area and can be identified by their casual navy uniforms. Fun and relaxing beachfront paradise |
1100 Chestnut Street Vancouver, BC V6J 3J9 Canada +1 604 257 8400 (Board of Parks and Recreation) http://www.city.vancouver.bc.c... |
This is the best place in the city to fly a kite or watch talented people fly them with grace and finesse. Visitors can marvel at the skyward fancy loops, swirls and dips by the seashore. This large park located five minutes from downtown, is home to the Vancouver Museum, Vancouver Maritime Museum, Pacific Space Centre and Gordon Southam Observatory. Views of downtown and the water make this a place to sit and quietly observe. It's also home to the summer's Bard on the Beach and Children's Festival. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A lively community |
Stanley Park to Burrard Street (Between Georgia Street & English Bay) Vancouver, BC V6G 2L8 Canada +1 604 683 2000 (Tourist Information Centre) http://www.seethewestend.com/ |
In 1888, the view from across the Burrard Inlet enticed wealthy buyers to purchase the undeveloped property, and for a few decades, the area catered to the elite. It has evolved into an eclectic fusion of architecture and residents. It lies along some of Vancouver's favourite beaches, is very close to both Robson's shopping corridor and Stanley Park, has boutiques and restaurants, and includes the largest gay community in Canada. Historical landmarks, including Barclay Heritage Square and the Roedde House Museum, are often used for movie and television filming locations. Review © 2007, Wcities |
