One of Vancouver's most chic rooms is found in the lobby of the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. After a multimillion-dollar renovation, this elegant spot was reconstructed into a lounge and wine bar. The interior has glowing chandeliers and plush chairs, and the feel is one of a luxury ocean liner's dining room. The clientele is well-heeled and refined. The menu features signature dishes as well as West Coast and Asian fare. Examples include grilled veal medallions and prawns, and halibut marinated in miso and sake. Acropol Taverna

Greek courtyard
2942 West Broadway
Vancouver, BC V6K 2G8
Canada
+1 604 733 2412
Fire ravaged this Kitsilano restaurant's original structure during the late 1990s. But like the fiery Phoenix, a better taverna rose from its ashes. A mannequin garbed in traditional Greek attire greets guests outside. Inside, it is reminiscent of a Mediterranean courtyard, with pillars, window-framed mirrors, plants and a sky blue ceiling. Classic dishes ranging from Lamb (Exohiko), Beef (Gyros and Moussaka), Pork Ribs and Chicken (Kotopoulo Stithos) are on the menu. All entrees are served with rice, potatoes and salad. Vegetarian entrées (Melizano Papoutsaki) are also available.

+1 604 682 0040
http://www.automotivebilliards...
Due to a massive tear down in this spot's old location, the Automotive Billiards Club traded in its old home at a remodeled garage for these new digs up the road. The old rustic repair shop look has been replaced by an urban loft motif, with exposed ducts, trendy prints and other funky art work, and enough modish black leather sofas and chairs for an army of hipsters. Eight pool tables are scattered throughout the bi-level room. A well-stocked bar doles out local and imported beers, wine, and highballs to local young professionals from the neighborhood's high tech and film industries. It also serves sandwiches, salads and desserts.

Like pretty much every other Italian café on 'the Drive,' Café Calabria has huge porcelain Greco-Roman statues surrounding a massive nautical themed fountain, an almost intimidating assortment of photos championing film stars with a lineage traceable back to the 'old country,' and a life-sized mannequin on horseback in full jousting regalia…on second thought, Café Calabria is not like the other cafes at all! A fine selection of cakes and biscottis will complement your dark espresso macchiato. Check your to-do-list at the door – this place is best enjoyed at a true European café pace. An understated establishment, this 20-year-old West End cafe is a long time favourite of sophisticated diners. Simple wood furniture in a room painted in soft warm brown tones creates a casual and relaxed ambience. The Paris-style cafe celebrates Gallic tradition. The poulet roti aux herbes (CAD 16.50), a half chicken slowly roasted with fresh herbs in a peppercorn sauce, is a tasty example. The cuisine is dominated by local seasonal ingredients, and a decadent dessert trolley and local and imported wines list complete the meal.

This elegant Vancouver establishment has been serving salmon by the sea since 1971. Located on the harbour front, it is housed in a building that once served as a fishing cannery. The nautical themed dining room's low lighting creates a romantic mood. The view, however, is the real draw. It allows glimpses of the ocean, mountains and sea lions. Seafood is the specialty. Start with a Tartare Medley (Ahi Tuna, Salmon and Scallop) and move on to the luxurious Salmon Wellington (Salmon, Shrimp and Mushrooms in puff pastry). The restaurant guarantees a 55-minute lunch.

The traditional recipes used in creating Cipriano's pizzas date back to 1953, when the owner's father, Guiseppe Cipriano, introduced the large, flat and round crust to Vancouver. This hidden, understated gem captures the romantic look and feel of an old country ristorante: stucco walls, chequered tablecloths and hanging Tiffany lamps. A satiating meal is composed of the Caesar alla Christina salad, Francesco's Fredo Pasta and an Italian red or white from the wine list. This is one of the newer culinary additions to Kitsilano's Broadway area. With its vaulted ceilings, immense bar, black vinyl seating and deep crimson walls, it is a comfortable place to relax and maybe read a good book. Although the menu lists standard fare such as burgers and chicken, the real specialty is the tapas selection. The delectable yam fries are a local favorite. A typical meal is quite reasonably priced.

Its look has been called 'Zen Deco', a combination of Zen interpretation and Art Deco design. The establishment is fully licensed.

The chef is always on the go and serves broth and noodles; you can select from light to rich and from lean or fat pork. If you are in the mood for a bite to eat in a place packed with trendy university kids enjoying house music and a friendly waitstaff, check out this bar/restaurant. The casual Kitsilano spot has a decent menu of interesting appetizers and creative entrees, and is open for brunch, lunch, dinner and late-night snacks. The atmosphere is sort of dark and dingy, but is perfect for hiding out with friends in a black light-lit booth. The large patio becomes packed on sunny days and warm nights.

This restaurant-lounge in the downtown area sees a mix of patrons. Despite the attendance, however, the place hasn't managed to justify the high publicity. Patio seating, free parking, and contemporary decor make the experience worthwhile. Be sure to catch the Jazz Brunch on Sundays.

The experience starts the moment you're greeted at the door by the gracious owner, Vikram Vij, and when the knowledgeable and amiable staff welcomes you with a complimentary cup of Chai (tea). Since the critically acclaimed menu changes seasonally, you'll have to rely on your taste buds to guide you through. The vegetarian dishes (such as roasted mashed eggplant, local squash and tomato curry with daal) are always flavorful and beautifully presented.

The highlight here is the large menu of tapas-style dishes infused with garlic in sweet, pungent and creamy concoctions. Contemporary art hangs on creamy yellow walls and dark wood chairs encircle white-linen covered tables. Begin with the signature Roasted Garlic and Chicken Dijon Soup, then try the Black Sesame Sea Bass and Garlic Mashed Yam with Soya Chili Oil. The diverse tapas-style menu is perfect for sharing: roasted candied garlic or stuffed green olives with garlic and asiago cheese.

For over three decades, this European-style spot has been one of Vancouver's premiere restaurants with both the social and business elite. Traditional Swiss cuisine, old-world service and an elegant setting keep the tables full. Try the rack of lamb (with grainy mustard herb crust), roasted duck breast, fondues and a wine selection that contains the best vintages. Reservations are advisable, especially for dinner. The decor is traditional, with old-European touches. Fine white linen and details adorn this downtown institution.

Yoshi is one of several sushi joints in Vancouver, but it stands out because of its traditional outlook. You will receive a ceremonial welcome as you enter, and the food is served in accordance with Japanese custom, one dish at a time. The menu includes sumptuous delicacies like Beef Ishiyaki, assorted sashimi, Negitoro Rolls, the Robata Grill, and Tobiki Nigiri. The restaurant also has a patio, and live music is played on the house piano.

Vancouver, BC V6E 1C4
Canada

For those of you who have hunger pangs late at night, this is an ideal place. Unfortunately the kitchen closes by midnight on Friday, Saturday and Sundays. Zin restaurant and lounge offers global cuisine in the form of tapas and entrées. They also have a good selection of wines and offer great cocktails. Entrées such as Butter Curry Scallops served with spinach and paneer pakoras, cilantro spouts and citrus chutney, have an Indian touch to it. On the dinner menu items such as Mole Tuna with Huitlacoche tamale and salsa verde, and Lamb Shank Navarin atop a root vegetables and sweet potato tian, are popular. When you enter Zin you'll find metallic, polyester, brazen-orange drapes and low-lighting adding to the romantic ambience.
