Acropol Taverna

Greek courtyard
2942 West Broadway
Vancouver, BC V6K 2G8
Canada
+1 604 733 2412
Fire ravaged this Kitsilano restaurant's original structure during the late 1990s. But like the fiery Phoenix, a better taverna rose from its ashes. A mannequin garbed in traditional Greek attire greets guests outside. Inside, it is reminiscent of a Mediterranean courtyard, with pillars, window-framed mirrors, plants and a sky blue ceiling. Classic dishes ranging from Lamb (Exohiko), Beef (Gyros and Moussaka), Pork Ribs and Chicken (Kotopoulo Stithos) are on the menu. All entrees are served with rice, potatoes and salad. Vegetarian entrées (Melizano Papoutsaki) are also available.

Ellada Taverna

Worth checking out in Kitsilano
3617 West Broadway
Vancouver, BC V6R 2B8
Canada
+1 604 738 1113
"This Greek eatery that opened is yet another restaurant in Kitsilano that is well worth checking out. It is the one with the can't-miss-it red signboard with gold type above the terrace. A vintage floor-model radio serves as the reception desk. Inside, candlelight romantically brightens the dark-wood-veneered dining room. Chandeliers add style to the place, while a sit-down bar keeps it easygoing. House specialties include lamb (Paithakia Riganata), seafood (Salmon Riganato Skaras) and pizza (pesto and zucchini with artichokes and pine nuts). For dessert, there is the Bougatsa: Lemon custard in phyllo pastry."

Ouzeri

Lively and fun
3189 West Broadway
Vancouver, BC V6K 2H2
Canada

This modern Greek eatery is a neighbourhood favourite located along the Broadway strip. The interior is bright and modern-Mediterranean. Framed photographs and prints clutter the walls, and small tables and chairs sit back to back on tiled floors. Portions here are generous and even the appetizers can be filling. Recommended specials include the Lamb Souvlaki accompanied by a side of Grilled Spicy Greek Sausages (Loukaniko) and Potatoes. For something spicier, the Saganaki (fried feta goat cheese) with Lemon Juice is a tasty zinger.

Romios Restaurant

Authentic Greek food, festive atmosphere
2272 West 4th Street
Vancouver, BC V6K 1N8

The décor and atmosphere at this Greek spot is as authentic as any taverna you'll find. Located in Kitsilano, its huge glass doors open to the street on sunny days. It is a great spot to people-watch. The extensive menu offers daily lunch and dinner specials. They also offer a range of pizzas. The Tzatziki - a yogurt, cucumber and garlic dip is a favourite.

Simpatico Ristorante

Traditional Greek cuisine
2222 West 4th Ave
Vancouver, BC V6K 1N8
Canada
+1 604 733 6824
One whiff of the aroma from this kitchen is enough to transport diners from the West Coast's rainy winter streets to the Greek Isle's sunny shorelines. This large Kitsilano restaurant has two dining floors, greenery and pictures of Greeks in traditional costumes. The blue-on-blue chequered tablecloths add a touch more of the Mediterranean. Start with the hummus and pita appetizer, then move on to the lamb souvlaki or moussaka for an entrée. Retsina is the beverage of choice here. Finish it all off with honeyed Baklava.

Stepho's Souvlaki Greek Taverna

A popular Greek retreat
1124 Davie St
Vancouver, BC V6E 1N1
Canada
+1 604 683 2555
This spot draws a diverse crowd seeking a lively escape. The Hellenic eatery recently expanded to support its continually growing clientele, but it is still packed at peak times. Richly painted walls, dark wood furniture and light fixtures set the stage for a loud and social meeting place. The environment is welcoming and the servers are outgoing. The portions, meanwhile, are large. The lamb and souvlaki platters overflow with roasted potatoes and rice, while the Greek salad is one of the city's best.
