Off-Stage Amusement |
1585 Johnston Street (Granville Island) Vancouver, BC V6H 3R9 Canada +1 604 687 1354 http://www.artsclub.com/onstag... |
This lounge is a popular place for a creative crowd. Nightly shows make the watering hole a prime locale to enjoy live musical and comedy acts. The menu is predominantly West Coast-style cuisine: spicy chicken wings or large platters of nachos with dip are popular orders at less than CAD10. With the large variety of liquor lining the bar's back wall, it is obvious that drinks are this institution's specialty. Locally brewed ales are constantly in demand and worth a taste. See website for complete menu and monthly entertainment calendar. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Spectacular cuisine and views |
1696 Duranleau Street Vancouver, BC V6H 3R9 Canada +1 604 687 4400 http://www.bridgesrestaurant.com/ |
This 20-year-old landmark on the water offers views of English Bay, the North Shore mountains and downtown. A large building with a classy interior, it includes a fine dining room, wine bar, pub and summertime dock patio. In the dining room, try Six Fresh Oysters on the half-shell. Then move on to the Grilled Filet of Ahi Tuna with Shiitake Miso, Charred Leeks, Cucumber Sunamono and Yam Tempura. The wine bistro and pub offer more casual and less expensive menus. Funky hide-out |
515 Davie St (near Richards) Vancouver, BC V6B 5B6 Canada +1 604 682 4388 http://www.dv8lounge.com/ |
This is a hub of local colour. Situated downtown in a lively neighbourhood, it is a restaurant by day and lounge by night that is frequented by musicians, writers and artists. The decor is dark, enhancing the bright paintings that dress the walls and handmade lanterns that zigzag the ceiling. The menu reflects an eclectic mix of vegetarian and West Coast culinary style. A popular dish is the Bruschetta (CAD6.25), served atop toasted foccacia bread with melted mozzarella and parmesan cheese and pesto. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Oh, so French! |
350 Davie Street, corner of Hamilton Street and Davie Street Opus Hotel Vancouver, BC V6B 5Z6 Canada +1 604 642 0557 http://www.opushotel.com |
Opulence is the hallmark at this charming, French brasserie. Situated within the lavish Opus Hotel, it envelops you in a classic Montparnasse air, and proudly displays its vintage marble and leather furnishings. Guests are welcome at any time of the day - they will be served with genteel French etiquette from dawn to late night. The wine list features red and white elixirs and liquors, whose only competition are the delicious cocktails on the menus. Be not afraid of the French names, and go with what sounds the best. In true French style, the flavors match the nomenclature, leaving the restaurant's diners satisfied. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Funky 1960s-style diner |
1202 Davie Street Vancouver, BC V6E 1N3 Canada +1 604 687 1293 http://www.hamburgermarys.ca/ |
This lively diner is a top West End hangout. 60s memorabilia covers the walls and typical American diner-style chrome tables and chairs fill the room. The atmosphere is lively and festive, and you should expect line-ups on weekends. The menu offers everything from burgers to burritos, all in generous portions. You can't visit without having one of its legendary milkshakes, but for something stronger, Daiquiris and margaritas are also available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Good food, old country atmosphere |
217 Carrall St Vancouver, BC V6B 2J2 Canada +1 604 688 9779 http://www.irishheather.com/ih... |
This welcoming Gastown bistro is as close as you will get to Dublin in Vancouver. Specializing in whiskey and beer, it has been raved about since opening in 1998. Sit down to a small meal of Baked Hazelnut Crusted Goat Cheese (CAD7), or go for the bigger and more classic Bangers and Mash (CAD14). Dinners range from CAD13 to CAD18. Even James Joyce's favourite sandwich is on the menu. Enjoy live music that will keep your eyes smiling, whether they are Irish or not. Oddly enough the lunch menu becomes available again each night from 10PM-midnight. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Dine by the sea |
333 Menchions Mews Vancouver, BC V6G 3H5 Canada +1 604 689 5438 http://www.liftbarandgrill.com/ |
Posh and classy, this restaurant offers some great views of the Coal Harbor cityscape, the North Shore Mountains and Stanley Park. If you can tear your sights away from these breathtaking views, it would be only to ravage through an extensive menu, serving some of the best chicken and fish dishes one can find. The staff is welcoming and the service is in keeping with the smart and cheerful décor, which is accentuated by two outdoor fireplaces. Bite into some lip-smacking Crab Rolls, followed by Chicken Breast and Warm Honey Potato Salad. Pairing up a dish with wine does not require an expert, for the list is full of Canadian and international favorites. At the end of it all, you may be presented with a rather hefty bill, but for the food, ambience and service, it's worth every cent! Review © 2007, Wcities |

24-hour healthy vegetarian |
2724 West 4th Avenue East of Macdonald Street Vancouver, BC V6K 1R1 Canada +1 604 738 7151 http://www.thenaam.com/ |
If a vegetarian could spend eternity in Utopia, they would probably live here. Opened in 1967, this homey place in Kitsilano features live music, a private patio, and an extensive, healthy menu. Fulfill your veggie fantasies with items like Popeye Pita Pizza, with spinach, onions, feta and mushrooms. Sample ethnic specialties or old standards like veggie and tofu burgers. It has been voted one of the top places in the city to get 'indifferent and surly service', but it is still packed every night. Review © 2007, Wcities |

House Music & College Kids |
3293 West Fourth Ave (near Blenheim) Vancouver, BC V6K 1R8 Canada +1 604 736 0212 http://www.nevermind.ca/ |
If you are in the mood for a bite to eat in a place packed with trendy university kids enjoying house music and a friendly waitstaff, check out this bar/restaurant. The casual Kitsilano spot has a decent menu of interesting appetizers and creative entrees, and is open for brunch, lunch, dinner and late-night snacks. The atmosphere is sort of dark and dingy, but is perfect for hiding out with friends in a black light-lit booth. The large patio becomes packed on sunny days and warm nights. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fresh-Shucked Oysters |
1228 Hamilton St Vancouver, BC V6B 2S8 Canada +1 604 609 0080 http://www.rodneysoysterhouse.com |
Simple, fresh food in a casual setting. Situated in a revamped turn-of-the-century warehouse, this place has concrete floors, stainless steel oyster bars and counters, and a very nautical feel. It is usually filled with casual young professionals slurping down oysters after finishing slaving away at their jobs in the area. There are oysters aplenty, from $1 for local varieties to $3 for Cape Cod imports. Malpeques and Cotuits are the house favourites. Be sure and try the cream and booze-laden clam chowder.
